Hello everyone, here's thread 2.

I'd be very grateful if someone could do a clicky link to the last one. Still can't figure it out.

Thanks!

Perhaps Harry finds it a bit unfair that WIlliam gets the entire duchy income and is concerned about how he will support his actress wife or something like that ?

The current PoW is very much on side so not a worry in the short term. I agree, longer term it might be an issue.

BlueberriesAndCream · 30/04/2019 14:01

I wonder if there was a massive change in the Queen mother after her husband died relatively young - and if the rumours about her being difficult are more from after that time?

I loved the film The King's Speech, though I know it's unlikely to be in the least bit accurate, but she seemed so supportive of him then.

I also read somewhere that not only was Sophie a favourite with the Queen, but that so were Lady Louise and James. I know there was some talk of James perhaps finding some things difficult, and Sophie seemed protective of him in the photos at the wedding etc. As much younger grandchildren, sort of half way in between the other grand children and the great-grandchildren, they must be able to have a slightly different relationship with the Queen.

SunshineCake · 30/04/2019 14:03

I don't think it is toddler Charles in the photo of Queen Elizabeth II on page one one two and the was a reason Meghan wasn't described as our beloved and trusty.....as Catherine was but I can't remember what it is. Google it.

Inniu · 30/04/2019 14:05

I think at the time Edward and Sophie had children HM was in a very different position than when her older grandchildren were born. Her mother and sister, who were probably the people she could be herself with, were gone. Maybe Sophie and get children took that role. Popping in for tea and watching Strictly.

I'm going to have to watch The Crown now! I like Matt Smith so will be interesting to see him play a young DoE.

Has anyone seen pics of the DoE as a young man? Shock I see why Her Maj fell for him! Very handsome he was.

I might be being unfair here, but I've never really liked James Middleton very much, not sure why though.

And personalised marshmallows? How tacky Grin

Must be honest, I didn't like the IDEA of James Middleton and I really don't know why. He comes across quite well in that interview though. More diffident and less arrogant than I expected. I feel so bad now.

lookingelsewhere · 30/04/2019 14:21

I think his business went under in the end. I couldn't get over how different his voice/accent was to Kate's!

Aargh! Sorry for double post

Saavhi · 30/04/2019 14:39

Isn't interesting how many of us still refer to the DoC as Kate Middleton. I wonder if this will always be the case.

lyralalala · 30/04/2019 14:40

He inherited millions from QEQM (the trust funds set up for her gr-grandchildren are, I think, the reason the queen paid off the debts rather than have it come out the estate) and from his mother so even if he was cut out by William he’d be fine.

But he wouldn’t be anyway. Even the Duke of Windsor got an income.

Harry has to be around, and full time, until George is 18 as none of them would want to risk Andrew as regent. Then at that point he’ll have done enough years to merit the long term looking after like the current Kents and Gloucesters get.

desertgirl · 30/04/2019 14:40

I thought the ‘beloved and trusty’ thing was something to do with Kate being a subject and Meghan not. But I may have invented that...

MissParple · 30/04/2019 14:44

She was a very cute little kid. Someone earlier was saying they never found Diana particularly beautiful. I think she was very striking and handsome, with good strong features. But 80s upper class fashion was a tough gig and I don't think it enhanced anyone's natural beauty! She got a lot more stylish in the 90s and I thought she looked absolutely stunning in that photo shoot she did with Mario Testino.

I would love to do a photoshoot with Mario Testino Grin. He makes everyone look their absolute best!

You and me both ... and when you consider she was largely surrounded by chinless wonders, he must have seemed a vision of manhood Smile

BlueberriesAndCream · 30/04/2019 14:48

Yes you may very well be right about Sophie being what the Queen needed at that point, and the grandchildren able to fill a different role at a different time. Someone said Louise was one of the nicest of the grandchildren, and neither of them seem keen on the limelight, which must make a bit of a change.

MissParple · 30/04/2019 14:49

Ooooh no, the DofE doesn't do it for me. At 28 or 98.

The dear departed Prince of Gloucester is the only royal male who'd have gained admittance to my bed chamber.

desertgirl · 30/04/2019 14:52

Magic Kingdom, it really does....

Perhaps that is how the monarchy views its minions - a bunch of dogs of various breeds and temperaments... Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 30/04/2019 14:53

I couldn't get over how different his voice/accent was to Kate's!

But isn't that the way? Men tend to bloke up their accents, they very rarely sound posh these days, compared to their female counterparts.

FATEdestiny · 30/04/2019 15:08

Re Zara at Easter. I just think she's put on weight since having children and is dressing for her larger figure.

lyralalala · 30/04/2019 15:15

The Wessex grandchildren are said to be impeccably behaved as well.

I like Sophie, but I always get the image of the pics of her shouting at her bodyguard that time that just takes the edge off.
