GunpowderGelatine · 23/04/2019 19:52

You know, the kind of behaviour only you know about which is unusual, and would make people go Hmm but you love doing?

For example, I binge on three different Netflix programmes at any one time in what I call a "3-2-1" sequence, which goes like this:

  • I will watch a long series (currently Peep Show) 3 episodes at a time
  • then I will watch 2 episodes of a shorter series (Santa Clarita Diet at the mo)
  • I'll then watch one episode of a weekly-type series after that (Jane the Virgin season 5 at the moment)
  • Then it starts with the 3 episodes again, and so on and so forth

I can't deviate from the 3-2-1 sequence, and if for example I've finished the Santa Clarita Diet episodes but the next episode of Jane the Virgin isn't on until 2 day's time, I'll wait to watch anything more until then. I can't just skip it and watch the next 3 Peep Shows, or the world will probably end or something

I don't know why I do this or when it started, but it works for me ConfusedGrin

Please make me feel normal and tell me your secret weird behaviour

I look for dead bodies whenever I see a good dead body spot. I genuinely expect to find one. Also, abandoned newborn babies in the same sort of places Blush - I end up disappearing into an extended daydream of scooping them up and looking after them while the police so their investigations (the babies, not the bodies). No idea why as I have NO desire for another baby, nor for anyone to abandon one.

Polarbearflavour · 24/04/2019 17:15

romany4 - haha. I’m not a psycho, really. Blush

mollpop · 24/04/2019 17:15

Totally understand the intrusive thoughts. If I’m sitting by an exit door on an aeroplane I get an urge to open the door mid flight just to see what would happen.

Also, when I make a cup of tea at work, I get the urge to throw it at a random colleague on the way back to my desk.

I often wonder what would happen if I turned the ignition off while driving fast on the motorway

SleepWarrior · 24/04/2019 17:20

@mollpop I can answer the ignition one as I had a car that would randomly do exactly that all by itself - you just slow down. You can restart the ignition whilst driving quite easily, the same way as you would normally, and carry on along the road. Don't try it though - it's bloody dangerous to have the engine off whilst travelling at high speeds!

Roselinemac · 24/04/2019 17:48

When I'm talking to someone I look in just one of their eyes then when they look away I move to the other eye. I also have to see what they are wearing whilst I'm talking to them so I try to do my quick glances when they blink or look away.

SailorJerry13 · 24/04/2019 18:15

I can’t stop imagining/daydreaming everyone I meet is in love with me. Fuck knows why, it gives me a strange confidence boost.

Anyone that is mean to me - well it’s bevause they are in love with me!
Anyone who is nice to me - obviously, love.
Anyone who is nervous - because of the love thing

It’s like the if I’m on Instagram and I let everyone’s story play randomly, sometimes I’m not even watching them I am doing something else while they play. But if I look at who has watched MY story - certain people...definitely in love with me.

If someone likes a photo - in love!

I am in a very very happy relationship and I wouldn’t dream of leaving my lovely partner. (Although sometimes I think he is lucky to have someone that everyone loves 😂)

I know it’s mental! But if your confidence is low just try it!

romany4 · 24/04/2019 19:36

SleepWarrior

I do that too! Especially if I'm driving down country lanes at night with surrounding woodland...

shakeapoo · 24/04/2019 20:04

I love this thread! I act out being interviewed all the time. I like it when the interviewer messes up and says something condescending or non feminist and I put them in their place and my fans rejoice. Also I'm really not suicidal but I daydream about my own suicide all the time & I have every detail planned out so it would be clean, comfortable and organised. I wouldn't want anyone to accidentally find my body so to solve this I would send a letter to the police station telling them where to find me & it that place would be in a large freezer, so when they got to me there would be no decay.

AuntieCorruption · 24/04/2019 20:09

Sometimes I imagine I'm one of the fish in my fish tank happily swimming around in and out the caves and tucking into the fish food!

I always wonder if my angel fish would eat me or would he try to make friends and then we could be BFFs like on 'Finding Nemo'

MrsSteve · 24/04/2019 20:31

I plan out the music for the film biopic about my life Grin

bobstersmum · 24/04/2019 20:47

@jogrunwalksleep, can you explain more?

CantThinkOfNameOops · 24/04/2019 20:48

I'm obsessed with Queen. When I listen to their music I pretend I'm Freddie mercury performing live. Oh and I like to pretend I'm on the Graham Norton show

Thetruthwillout80 · 24/04/2019 20:57

I pretend I'm an F1 driver on the way to work, with a running commentary in my head, about how I'm about to go racing but I'm adhering to the speed limit because I'm respecting the law.

Also, that I'm on a racing track. Anyone in front of me is a lap behind, and anyone in front of me is breaking the speed limit.

It's all totally batshit, but my journey to work seems to fly by 😂

And don't get me started on my 'famous' father who denied my existence...Wink

managedmis · 24/04/2019 21:02

I do have a bit of a running dialogue of dirty talk when I see hot colleagues in the office : 'nigel, I'd only kick you outta bed to fuck you on the floor you sexy bastard' type talk

I'm quiet as a mouse, obviously

waxahatchee · 24/04/2019 21:13

Quite a lot of responses but nobody who counts all the letters as they are talking and divides them up into 12s?

optimisticpessimist01 · 24/04/2019 21:24

I HAVE to know the plot of every film/series I watch before I actually watch it.

If we start watching a film I'll have a quick Google of the plot
Watching GoT, I have to Google what happens before I watch the episode

I can't stand the suspense of not knowing whats happening ahead. DH and my friends hate me for it

Thisnamechanger · 24/04/2019 21:25

I’ve had the same snatch of song going round in my head every waking hour of every day for years - Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant. I haven’t actually heard the song itself for a long long time. I find it gets worse as in very very intrusive when I’m anxious. So odd, I’ve never met anyone with anything similar ( that they will admit to!)

My late DM had it, one line from the same song for about ten years, it also got worse when she was stressed.

Goodomens23 · 24/04/2019 21:28

I day dream and sometimes act out scenarios. For example, if I'm cross with my manager I'll act out the conversation with myself in the mirror (that I'd have with him). Or if I've seen something in the news, I might act it out

octopusrus · 24/04/2019 21:43

I love this thread 🤣

Thisnamechanger · 24/04/2019 21:43

I pull out a strand of hair and bite off the hair bulb

That's trichotilliomania or trichophagia to be precise. Ive had this since i was a kid and have no eyebrows

HoldMyGirl · 24/04/2019 21:58

I regularly fantasise of my X-factor audition; Whitney's 'I didn't know my own strength' I can't sing a note

Cheryl bursts into tears and Simon looks completely blown away, all in slow motion of course.
Standing ovation from audience, my family hugging and shaking heads in both awe and disbelief at the edge of the stage.

lovelyjubbly · 24/04/2019 22:21

Love this thread. I do loads of these.

I’ve evolved from hand flapping to pointing my index fingers at each other and tensing my body when I’m very pleased about something. DH finds it endearing luckily.

I like to hold my breath & count things. If I have to wait 3 mins for a tube I will count to 60 3 times.

I like to see how long I can surreptitiously stand on one leg.

whenever I see anything a bit suspicious going on, I practise my witness statement, so I can be the star witness when cross examined by a scary barrister.

I talk to animals publicly, but also to trees and inanimate objects if nobody is about.

StickyFloor · 24/04/2019 22:46

I daydream a lot, but aside from long running situations I particularly like to imagine funerals. I’ve done my entire family.

I also have to cancel out the letters in words and phrases - each letter is worth the number it comes in the alphabet and vowels can be anything. Sometimes I’m so busy on the calculations I realise I’ve tuned out of a conversation.

While driving I talk out loud explaining in great detail the most boring things as though someone has asked me to explain eg what happened with your VAT query? Did you ever work out where the dripping noise came from?

I imagine changing careers and at 50 plus becoming a Wimbledon champion or a Olympic ice skater, whereas in real life I barely move off the sofa.
