To think long painted nails look unattractive

Decormad38 · 23/04/2019 05:56

I am prepared to be shot down in flames but when I look at long painted nails on anyone I just think they look ugly and claw like. I just don’t get why anyone would spend money to make their hands look like that. I think short or medium length painted nails look nice but not long ones.

fakeup What are you talking about?

PinkieTuscadero · 23/04/2019 19:02

I was talking about the long nails that the OP is referring to.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2019 19:03

Fair point pinkie!

cauliflowersqueeze · 23/04/2019 19:04

I’d be terrified about them snapping back and taking off my whole nail. Ughhhh.

And bum wiping of course - how the hell would you do that.

Mummyshark2019 · 23/04/2019 19:04

Agree. They are gross.

FakeUp · 23/04/2019 19:07

I was taking about the long nails that the OP is referring to.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2019 19:08

fakeup I was referring to you comment about men and slavery?

FakeUp · 23/04/2019 19:08

And also the fact that many women working in nail bars are modern day slaves

FrazzledCareerWoman · 23/04/2019 19:09

I know this is weird and irrational but I don't like the look of long natural nails, I think they look gross, painted or unpainted Blush

Gels/acrylics I think look fine / obviously tastes and colours vary but generally I like them. I struggle with them past 2-3mm beyond the end of my fingertips practically though. So I get short and square but occasionally will allow them to keep some more of the grown out length if I am feeling common Grin

I get gel infills and takes an hour every 3 weeks. Love having colour that stays put and nails that don't break.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2019 19:10

fakeup Obviously not all nail salons are like that though. In my town with god knows how many salons there are there is only one dodgy place. Gets raided by immigration every so often.

Always bloody busy though.

Mog6840 · 23/04/2019 19:12

I love, long, oval shape polished nails. Preferably gel polish on natural nails rather than thick acrylic.
All this talk, questioning the practicality & hygiene is ridiculous. They do not restrict me at all, otherwise I wouldn't have them.

Surely long, kept nails look far better than unkept, broken different lengths, chewed or chipped polish nails which the majority of people tend to have. Trust me I worked in a salon for 12 years.

There's nothing wrong with women wanting to take pride in their nails. It's all matter of opinion.

FakeUp · 23/04/2019 19:18

Nicknacky the dodgy ones are often a little cheaper and attract a lot of people. I'm in a large city where I would say the majority of nail bar workers are immigrants and likely to be working for very little. They are very popular.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2019 19:19

The dodgy one in my town is only a few points cheaper than my salon, thinks it’s £5 cheaper for a set of arcylics. Not worth it, in my opinion.

TakenForSlanted · 23/04/2019 19:21

I'm technically with the OP in terms of encountering them IRL. Also, it's sort or tacky.

But I've literally wasted days of my life watching YouTube videos on how they're constructed because - as an engineer by training and profession - I find it embarrassingly intriguing. Blush

FakeUp · 23/04/2019 19:23

If it's ethical and not talons Grin it's all good. I had to live through my daughter having weird finger extensions!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 23/04/2019 19:33

I got my nails done for the first time in my life a few weeks back in preparation for a trip to Buckingham Palace and I absolutely love them. I've had infills once and will continue. They are shiny, colorful and make me happy.

The comments and judgements of people that get their acrylic nails is so rude and simply laughable. I'm vacuous, obsessed with my looks, common as muck basically!

Fine not to like something but really fucking rude to make snide judgements of women who like something different to you.

itsamoochicken · 23/04/2019 19:34

I don't like really long nails, fake or natural. Just as much as I dislike really short nail biter nails, because they've usually got their fingers in and out of their mouth resulting in saliva getting everywhere!

I think a majority of people with long nails will be perfectly clean individuals but it's the odd few that I've seen with visible dirt underneath that I can't shake the thought of. I witnessed a colleague who had poor personal hygiene shove her finger (with said very long nail) in the mouth of my other colleagues newborn baby. Scarred ever since!

Reading back through my post, maybe I just have germ issues Grin

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 19:37

I love all the comments in the vein of ‘I dislike them because it’s just another way to keep women uncomfortable’ when what they mean is... ‘Well, just the stupid, chavvy ones, natch. I’m far too smart and savvy to fall for that. I have mine filed down neatly and practically. with two coats of Essie ‘ballet slippers’. Anyone who does anything different to me is slobby and unhygienic.

Lol

PinkieTuscadero · 23/04/2019 19:45

I know her Maj allegedly wears Essie's Ballet Slippers but I think it looks a bit trashtastic. Sorry, Liz!

Biancadelrioisback · 23/04/2019 20:04

@PocaMiseria yes it's due to a medial condition which existed before I ever had my nails done. I had acrylics because my nails are weak and I wanted, for once, for my hands to look pretty. Then I started doing it every 8 weeks or so for about a year.

bonzo77 · 23/04/2019 20:19

I don’t like them on me. I don’t think I really like them on others. But it doesn’t mean they’re bad people.

RemodellingMyHouse · 23/04/2019 20:34

NickNacky - I would describe yours as medium rather than long. I've seen some very long ones, around twice that length, which to my mind would definitely be a hindrance for some activities.

I don't wear them as they're not compatible with the sport I do. They're not too my taste (I'm not into makeup either) but who says everyone has to dress themselves to my taste? I'm sure some on what I do isn't to other people's taste.

Some of the comments on here are really judgy. Anyone who uses 'common' as an insult is definitely BU!

Japonicaflower2 · 23/04/2019 20:42

I completely agree Clarashu.
I hate the way those with long talons sort of sideways scoop, it actually makes me feel somewhat sick. I had to wait for my change when in a shop yesterday because the assistant couldn't pick up the coins because of the length of her nails.
As for the muck that collects under them, a beautician friend said that it actually makes her want to gag sometimes because of the smell under the nails.
They remind me of those pictures of people who hold records for the length of their nails...grotesque.

starzig · 23/04/2019 20:46

YANBU. The only thing tackier than overdone nails is painted toenails. Ugh!!!

Nicknacky · 23/04/2019 20:48

What’s wrong with painted toenails?! Whats tacky about that?
