To think long painted nails look unattractive

I am prepared to be shot down in flames but when I look at long painted nails on anyone I just think they look ugly and claw like. I just don’t get why anyone would spend money to make their hands look like that. I think short or medium length painted nails look nice but not long ones.

I really don't like false nails, or natural long nails if they are painted anything other than one plain colour.

There was a thread on here not long ago with lots of people posting photos of their nails. There were very few that I thought looked nice.

Each to their own though, I'm sure there are things about me that people don't like to look at too!

Bobcut · 23/04/2019 20:52

Agree so unhygienic too and I can’t believe people have them with newborn babies or even small children, so easy to scratch them or give them a infection when cleaning their eyes etc

starzig · 23/04/2019 20:54

I am afraid I can't answer that Nickynack without being really offensive. So we'll just say I'm not a fan and leave it at that.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2019 20:56

You don’t need to be offensive. Why be offensive to another person just because you don’t like something about them?

Nicknacky · 23/04/2019 20:58

Actually I will say what I think. I think unpainted toe nails are disgusting and the bareness of the nail repulses me.

S021 · 23/04/2019 21:03

I don’t like them tbh

One are short. I work Mon-Thurs, paint them on a Friday and remove Sunday evening

S021 · 23/04/2019 21:04

Mine

Snowinsummer · 23/04/2019 21:06

I don't like them at all. They stop you from doing many things naturally & I put them in the same category as high heels. A sort of modern day geisha thing & I'm sure the majority of men wouldn't bother if they had to wear them. Lastly I'm ashamed to say that I consider them low-class. My own nails are short & unpainted (ex-musician)

In fairness, Nickynack the majority of posters on this thread find false nails creepy and unattractive. So it is odd for you to put up pictures of your false nails asking for opinions. It puts posters in a very tricky position, because you already know the majority think they don't look nice, but it is one thing to express a general view but rude to aim it at an individual - hence the lack of comments, I suspect.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2019 21:21

TheNavigator That poster wasn’t referring to my nails, she was talking about painted toenails.

PhillipeFellope · 23/04/2019 21:23

I love all the comments in the vein of ‘I dislike them because it’s just another way to keep women uncomfortable’ when what they mean is... ‘Well, just the stupid, chavvy ones, natch. I’m far too smart and savvy to fall for that. I have mine filed down neatly and practically. with two coats of Essie ‘ballet slippers’. Anyone who does anything different to me is slobby and unhygienic.

This! This all over with glitter, gems and multiple bright colours Grin

crazycatgal · 23/04/2019 21:42

I've had long acrylics for over a year now... there is never a single speck of dirt under my nails. Unless you're putting your hands in dirt and not washing them properly why would there be muck caked under your nails?

I can also do everything I can do without nails including putting contact lenses in and taking them out, they're really not an inconvenience.

I also go to a good salon who use decent products, I would never touch one of the backstreet places that use shoddy products and employ people below minimum wage.

Shelia007 · 23/04/2019 21:52

@PhillipeFellope You don't wipe your arse with your nails though. If you do, you're doing it wrong.

This made me lol!

My opinion on acrylic nails depends really. If they are short and look natural I think they are ok....those long coffin ones vom

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 24/04/2019 00:19

Goodness me! I’m dying to hear why painted toe nails would cause a poster to have to restrain themselves from saying something “really offensive” yes you can not like something for whatever reason but having to hold back your offensive comments about something as innocuous as nail varnish is one of the most funny things I’ve read on here for a while!

Southlonmum · 24/04/2019 00:23

They lack elegance...

ReSistingPink · 24/04/2019 00:35

Agree they're a hotbed for germs, so many ridges to hide in even if they look clean. And depending on the length, they definitely inhibit the natural function of finger pads and hand usage.

But as an aside, do we even question the safety of adhering so many chemicals to our bodies?

The smell of the chemicals alone makes me worry for the technicians long term health.

Not to mention what's in the future for those who've had them constantly for 15years. Their long term health effects are unknown.

They're so corrosive to natural nails as evidenced from the dry peeling flaky remainders of natural nails underneath that it's likely the damage can seep further into the flesh or bloodstream.

It's good to question the things we do unthinkingly to our bodies in pursuit of aesthetic goals.

Also they must have environmental consequences due to their popularity and I wonder if women who intend to reduce their plastic usage can rationalise having their nails plasticised monthly.

Just some different perspectives.
So no OP YANBU imo.
