Just that really... the last two episodes have been so slow!

OP posts:

We watched an interview with him ScribblyGum before deciding to give the audio a try. Didn't realise he was dead although given his age it doesn't surprise me.

echt · 11/05/2019 07:05

And the Night King and the white walkers. What were they all about? Built up from the very first scene of Episode 1 as the 'real' threat to Westeros while everyone squabbles over the Iron Throne, they're dispatched in one episode with no explanation

While very badly handled, in series 7 when they go over the wall get an undead, so as to convince the southerners, the phenomenon of the undead collapsing when a walker is dispatched is noted. Someone theorises that the walker infects the undead so they go when he goes. This is later directly linked to the NK. Big set up for Battle of Winterfell.

Merril · 11/05/2019 08:22

@echt yes, I know all that. It's not good enough though. Why was the NK after Bran? Why did he have a fortress in an earlier episode? Why did they show him turning a baby into White Walker? What happened to the baby? Did it grow up? Is it dead? Why was the NK immune to dragon fire? Where did Bran warg to while everyone fighting?

Killing the NK so all the other WW's/Wights dropped/disappeared too was the laziest possible outcome imo.

Harrison376 · 11/05/2019 09:47

Bran gave a little speech about why the NK was after him-something about him seeing everything in the past and the NK wants death so to kill Bran is to kill life because without history there is no life. Something along those lines 🧐😆

echt · 11/05/2019 10:16

I agree. Very sloppy.

M0reGinPlease · 11/05/2019 21:07

DH is now theorising that Drogon is actually female and has laid eggs somewhere which hatch and appear next episode.. apparently the opening credits have a still of a dragon with babies.

maddieharrison · 11/05/2019 21:17

@m0reginplease do you remember when jorah and Tyrion were on the boat in valyria and got into a fight with the stone men - they saw dragon. That could be where the eggs are

maddieharrison · 11/05/2019 21:17

Sorry I meant they saw Drogon fly overhead* - damn autocorrect

M0reGinPlease · 11/05/2019 21:19

Yes @maddieharrison the theory is she laid them when she went awol in that season

Ifeelbloodyawful · 11/05/2019 21:37

IMO it started going downhill once they overtook the books (and so no longer had GRRM material to draw from). The pacing has been off for the last two seasons - it was relatively slow (not a bad thing IMO) and then suddenly felt so rushed, with no sense of the passage of time (particularly true of the previous season)... and such weird choices, like giving precious screen time over to the relationship between Messandei and Grey Worm, that added nothing to the story IMO. It's frustrating! This season has been so much about pleasing the fans with "funny" bits and just feels off. Nothing about the battle of Winterfell made sense. I'll continue to watch, because I have invested time in it, and still enjoy it on a superficial level... but it feels very much like going through the motions now, whereas previously I was so excited by it.

I just SINCERELY hope that GRRM actually finishes the sodding books so I can enjoy the story in the original medium. I'm still a bit sad that we're finding out the eventual ending from the show not the books TBH.

crispysausagerolls · 11/05/2019 21:37

I know this isn’t about the season but has anyone seen interviews with Gwendoline Christie and Nikolaj Coster Waldau? I can’t for the life of me work out if they are super close and joking around or genuinely can’t stand one another

crispysausagerolls · 13/05/2019 08:23

Well colour me
Disappointed in Jaime!

ShesABelter · 13/05/2019 12:08

Whilst the latest episode was hard hitting.. It's such a disappointment that Danis been made to be so caring towards innocents and has now turned into the mad queen killing everyone and destroying the city. So disappointed.

crispysausagerolls · 13/05/2019 16:06

It was fantastic TV and I throughly enjoyed that aspect but I am genuinely upset (need to get a life) about seasons upon seasons of character development being thrown out the fucking window (like Bran). What the actual fuck?!? Why Jaime, why?!?!

And for Cersei to die like that? Why didn’t Dany fly to the red keep and finish her? Why Sack the city like that?! Is there even a fucking throne left, since there’s no capital to rule?!?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 13/05/2019 16:09

Oh fuck. Didn’t mean to click on this, haven’t seen it yet. 🙄

M0reGinPlease · 13/05/2019 19:10

Can we give spoiler alerts please! Majority of us won't watch until Monday eve.

Honeyroar · 13/05/2019 19:38

I quite often don't see the episodes until long after Monday. I just avoid everything GOT, old and new, because you can guarantee you'll accidentally discover something you didn't want to know otherwise.. People want to talk about it ASAP because they're such big episodes.

I've been cross at Jaime since he walked out on Brienne, I knew he wasn't going to kill Cersei, he's really fucked up inside over her. Everything he said to Brienne he meant. I'm feeling pretty cross at Tyrion for letting Varys down too, although I think he and Jon did what they did for genuine reasons, and have seriously had a head wobble and seen the light once Dany kept killing people despite the bells ringing. I don't think either will be stood at Dany's side next week.

Scion457 · 13/05/2019 20:12

Bit daft to be on a GOT thread after the episode has aired if you haven’t seen it yet. Goes without saying really but SPOILERS ahead!

I loved it! I must be slightly twisted myself cause I was just thinking ‘yes! Burn the lot of them!!’

I loved that cersei didn’t get a grand death, loved the fight between the mountain and the hound, seeing what he actually looked like under the armour!

After the bells rang-the look on Jon’s face when she started the rampage and the sheer madness in her eyes. Great acting from Emilia Clarke, she portrayed the change in her so well given the rushed time frame.

Yes!!! And yes lol, I also did enjoy watching the dragon and the burning.

I’m sorry re spoilers but come on, a new episode has come out and this is a GOT thread.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 13/05/2019 21:34

I clicked on it accidentally this morning, I was aiming for another thread, my own fault. Grin

Just watched it. Wtf Daenerys? The old Targaryen madness has returned. She listened to the bells ring but she was having none of it, she wanted revenge. And now a whole city is dead. So much for her siting on the iron throne, it’s probably melted and crushed beneath hundreds of tons of rock. Nobody will want her now. Jon’s going to have to kill her isn’t he? Sad

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 13/05/2019 21:35

*sitting Hmm

tillytoodles1 · 13/05/2019 21:42

I thought Dany was Ok at first. Once she arrived she lost two dragons , most of her army and found out that no one liked her. The fact that Jon was the rightful heir sent her over the edge.

Meggie2008 · 13/05/2019 21:48

It was absolutely god awful.
I mean, as a TV programme it's ways been pretty spectacular, but ever since they ran out of source material, the story has been horrendous.
It's as if character arcs don't exist. There is no way on this earth that book Varys would have played out that way. He's far too into self preservation for that. He'd have waited it out to see how it ended up and then planted seeds. He's not an idiot!
Cersei might have deserved an ending like that, but Jaime did not. He deserved much more than being buried in a wreckage with a woman who only wanted him for pretty babies. Book Jaime was over her crap, TV one should have been too.

The only thing that made sense was Sandor. A heroes death into the one thing he fears most.

Rosehip10 · 13/05/2019 22:06

Over 70% of GOT viewers are in the A,B,C1 social class grouping

Asj0405 · 13/05/2019 22:47

Really dissapointed with how this series has gone Sad. Loved every series up until this one but not enjoying the ending.
