To skive off work tomorrow?

I know I'm being massively unreasonable! So I'm hoping you'll all say yes you are but do it anyway! I need random strangers to justify it to myself.

I've had the past 2 weeks off with the kids over Easter, we all go back to work/school tomorrow.

I'm a single parent and haven't had a day to myself throughout the whole holidays, don't get me wrong, it's been fab being off with the kids and doing lots with them, but mentally I need some time to myself!

The weather is glorious tomorrow, would I be unreasonable to skive off work and go for a walk up a mountain with just the dog for company?!

You will be much more productive the rest of the week.

OH and if you can lie convincingly that you have a migraine or something similar. D&V doesn't cut it after a Bank Holiday

PinkiOcelot · 22/04/2019 20:53

Some of us haven’t had the past 2 weeks off so think yourself lucky. Go to work.

IdblowJonSnow · 22/04/2019 20:53

In your position, as you've described it, I would take the day off.
Enjoy! Don't get sunburnt or do anything incriminating!

Mojitomogul · 22/04/2019 20:55

Do it! Life is short , enjoy yourself, it's not impacting anyone else.

BanjoStarz · 22/04/2019 20:55

What’s the procedure with your LEA for after holiday sickness though?

Here a day off immediately after a holiday would trigger a request for medical evidence...because it such a prime time to pull a sickie that no one is believed.

I know it seems like you need a day off and you’ve convinced yourself that the work you can do tomorrow can be done another day - but why add more stress to the rest of the week?

If you really want to...pick another day, not the day after the Easter holidays.

You know YABU go to work. I hate skivers.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 22/04/2019 20:56

You’re a student on placement,so it’s actually not a day off work

LorelaiRoryEmily · 22/04/2019 20:58

Do it. It’s not that big a deal

Charley50 · 22/04/2019 21:04

Just do it.

Freemind · 22/04/2019 21:04

If I were involved in managing you on this placement, I would be concerned at your attitude if you didn't turn up after the holiday without a very good reason. Use the day in school for planning and protecting your reputation and reference. Schools really don't handle this kind of day off sympathetically!

crimsonlake · 22/04/2019 21:05

You have already had 2 weeks off, get yourself to work.

ScrambledToe · 22/04/2019 21:06

Thanks @Hecateh

Ijumpedtheshark · 22/04/2019 21:08

Do it!

ScrambledToe · 22/04/2019 21:09

What would be a good reason @Freemind?

If your class is away, can you do any of your work outside in some quiet part of school grounds tomorrow? That might give you some of what you are craving.

bookishtartlet · 22/04/2019 21:18

I'm a teacher. I'd totally do it. We went back today, so I had the fear last night. It was fine in the end.

ScrambledToe · 22/04/2019 21:22

It is definitely the fear @bookishtartlet and I'm not even a year in! How can I have the fear now! It should be when I'm an old hat and there's no novelty anymore

No one is relying on me, my work can be caught up on wednesday. No one needs to cover my role.

Well in that case take the day off, but I don't understand why you're considering phoning in sick?

IF the above is true then just phone up and say you're taking the day off unpaid and you'll be in on Wednesday.

CheesecakeAddict · 22/04/2019 21:23

Just a thought as well, if you take a day off, will you have to make up for it at the end of your placement?
If you are stressed, have you spoken to your mentor.
Also, go to work! You have got a career ahead of you where you will spend all day indoors when it's nice outside. Might as well get used to it 😬

Hecateh · 22/04/2019 21:29

sunstroke????????????/
Wink

fashiondevotee · 22/04/2019 21:33

Just do it, OP. Call me cynical but... life's too short to be a slave to work, and it's not like your company cares about you. Have fun!

DeftandGlory · 22/04/2019 21:34

TBH if you don’t think you’d be missed at school. I’d blame something on your children and take a days leave.
You end up doing masses in your own time as part of the job so morally it’s not big shakes.
I have a mate who takes loads of time off teaching. She’s done it for years, her classes get great results, nothings ever been done about it.

stressedoutpa · 22/04/2019 21:38

At some time or another, everyone wants to do this. Most of us are grown up enough to realise that it isn't professional to skive off especially when you have already had two weeks off. Time to grow up, op.

ScrambledToe · 22/04/2019 21:43

I know cheese!! My career before this one was outdoors every day!

We do an additional 12 days on top of the requirement for leeway due to absences. The other trainee in my school has recently been told she's been off too much that she'll have to make up a week at the end of the course

you are a horrid person and your poor employer will suffer massively.
OH, wait... NO. No. No.
Unless lives are at stake just go for it.
Get your priorities right: you work to be able to pay for stuff. You don't work because you want to save the world or pure passion.
Yup, it's bad, but where's the harm? (Unless you do it every week,...)
