To skive off work tomorrow?

I know I'm being massively unreasonable! So I'm hoping you'll all say yes you are but do it anyway! I need random strangers to justify it to myself.

I've had the past 2 weeks off with the kids over Easter, we all go back to work/school tomorrow.

I'm a single parent and haven't had a day to myself throughout the whole holidays, don't get me wrong, it's been fab being off with the kids and doing lots with them, but mentally I need some time to myself!

The weather is glorious tomorrow, would I be unreasonable to skive off work and go for a walk up a mountain with just the dog for company?!

Walking up a mountain in the sunshine with your dog sounds amazing. Do it. I would.

julensaor · 22/04/2019 20:09

do it, life is too short, I'd do it too and you need the break (it will benefit everyone Grin

Tinkoschminko · 22/04/2019 20:09

I used to teach. I mostly did this, to be honest, to avoid planning. I’d have so much to do that I just tried to avoid it all by saying I won’t go in. (I always did. It’s as much hassle being off sick than being in!) However, if there’s really no upshot to it, then do it. Life’s short.

leccybill · 22/04/2019 20:10

I'm a teacher and I've still got all my work to do this evening, after two weeks off with DD. Not had a minute to myself. Been on holiday and got back an hour ago, there are 5 cases need emptying in my hall Sad
I really, really, really don't want to go in tomorrow. But I will. It won't be that bad. Nice to see colleagues and have some normality.

whitehalleve · 22/04/2019 20:10

At least go back in for one day first. Taking the first day back off is just too textbook skiving.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 22/04/2019 20:12

Tbh I'd prefer you to call up and be honest about wanting another day off, than have us all having to knowingly join in an absolutely blatant charade about being sick.

I'd have no issue with the extra day's leave if nothing happening that needed you tomorrow.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 22/04/2019 20:12

if You’re jobless in 2month,and need a reference and good will no don’t pull a sickie
Plus thing about lying is you’ll need to invent & maintain a short lived illness
And hope no one sees you and the dog,up a hill

HBStowe · 22/04/2019 20:13

Yes, you obviously would. Take a day of AL!

Moominfan · 22/04/2019 20:14

Op I took a day off sick before Easter to mentally prepare. Not easy on your own. I might not have been physically ill but I was mentally ran down and not had a day since dec. don't feel guilty and would do it again. My attendance is really good at work so didn't raise any suspicion.

TrixieFranklin · 22/04/2019 20:16

Doooooooo It

Destinesia · 22/04/2019 20:18

For the sake of your mental health, I think you should not go to work tomorrow.

BlueJava · 22/04/2019 20:19

YABU - you will need a good reference in 2 months (and probably the pay). They will know you're skiving - it's so obvious when people do this versus being actually ill. Don't stoop that low.

ScrambledToe · 22/04/2019 20:29

@leccybill I think that's what I need! I can't get out of holiday mode so probably the best thing to do is go in and work mode will hopefully kick in.

I've finally managed to start a little bit of work this evening. The hardest part is starting!

On the other hand, the weather is fabulous tomorrow, all of the tourists with kids will have gone home (I live in a well known National Park.... well on the outskirts as the middle is fucking expensive!) and I can't see mysef having a day to myself until May when my mum comes to visit!

In June you’ll be jobless with lots of free time.if it’s time doing nowt you seek

ShesABelter · 22/04/2019 20:34

I'm curious what job you do in a school where you can take a day off and it not affect anyone else, no one is relying on you and you can just pick up as normal on Wednesday?

Tippexy · 22/04/2019 20:36

I’d take the day off and go for a walk, it’s a mental health day.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 22/04/2019 20:38

You are aware tippex that mh day isn’t a given or something one just does
Most jobs have an expectation you turn up,even on sunny days when you’d rather not

ForalltheSaints · 22/04/2019 20:41

Don't. You need a good reference and might need some short notice time off for interviews if you are looking for another job.

ScrambledToe · 22/04/2019 20:43

@Shesabelter I'm a trainee teacher, I usually have 2 lessons on a Tuesday but both are the same year group who are out on a trip with another department. So I have no lessons. My day will involve sitting in the staffroom planning my lessons for the rest of the week, which I can catch up on.

I'm on the last push now to qualifying, I've had no days off and I'm doing really well in assessments/observations. I'm tired, drained and stressed trying to balance this course and family life. I know I should go in, I know I could use the time wisely to observe some lessons. But I just want a day to myself.

Ceebs85 · 22/04/2019 20:44

Do. It.

Why the hell not!

Valentinesxdayideasxx · 22/04/2019 20:44

Do it! But be sure not to get a tan or sunburned Grin enjoy

ScrambledToe · 22/04/2019 20:46

The Easter holidays was the first time I cried over this course. It started off because my laptop wasn't working well and then I just couldn't stop. I think the stress has been bottling up inside me! I thought I was coping really well.
It's not even that hard! It's just relentless nitpicking and observations, constantly being watched and assessed. It's draining.

ScrambledToe · 22/04/2019 20:47

I already am valentine Angry - burnt face!

If you haven't skived a day for ... let's say ... over a year

AND

If it isn't going to impact anyone else then JFDI

The world won't come to an end and a single day won't impact your life in the future

KittyLane1 · 22/04/2019 20:50

Do it, life isn't all about slaving away at work until we die.

Go climb that mountain in the sunshine.
