Children should attend their local school within their catchment area unless there is a good reason not to. Too much choice increases deceit, traffic on the roads and reduces the feeling of community.
All schools should offer an excellent education regardless of location. Same applies to hospital treatment.

I’m totally not going to look it up now and suggest my family lavishly decorate our entire house in my honour every Mother’s Day from now till eternity. Not at all

But rather than bad schools , it's usually bad kids (or, let's be honest, common kids). No one dares say this. You could swap all the kids of "good" school with all the kids in the "bad" school and you'd end up with exactly as you were before.
