Can we have an unpopular opinions thread?

For things that are agreed as gospel on MN

I'll start: I like dressing my kids in matching outfits and I really enjoy a Butlins holiday

I also don't think Nevaeh is that bad

OP posts:
TixieLix · 23/04/2019 12:25

What about the medics who haven't made it to consultant? Do they look twattish if they 'insist' at parents' evenings too?

In my (perhaps unpopular) opinion yes, because for a hospital doctor or GP, 'doctor' is just a job title when they're at work.

My opinion is that if you're in a very informal situation where you're greeted as Mr/Ms/Mrs or whatever, by correcting them "no it's Doctor actually" it can come across as a bit pompous. And I say that as someone who chooses not to use an academic prefix. I really don't care if my opinion is unpopular, that's the whole idea of the thread.

CitadelsofScience · 23/04/2019 12:31

I'm middle aged with only one teenage child left at home and I don't work. I couldn't care less if people judge me because I live mainly off my husband's income.

This idea that all children should be encouraged to go to university to get a degree is bollocks. Especially those doing useless degrees from third rate unis.
All universities and degrees are not equal so let's stop banging on about little Teddy going to Middlesex uni to study theatre so they can get an excellent job other University's and degrees that are equally pointless are available

TheFastandCurious · 23/04/2019 12:31

Menstrual cups are fucking grim.

CitadelsofScience · 23/04/2019 12:32

@TheBulb its surgeons who are referred to aa Miss/Mr/Mrs/Ms not consultants as a whole.

FishCanFly · 23/04/2019 12:36

We should bring back public hanging.

TatianaLarina · 23/04/2019 12:38

People who insist on being addressed as 'doctor' because of a PhD can appear twatty in some scenarios (eg insisting your child's teacher addresses you as Dr instead of Mr/Mrs at parents evening)

I think people who have worked their arse off for their qualifications should do what they like. Particularly if they are using it to avoid the indignity of Ms/Mrs. Why should only medics be ‘allowed’ the term.

Prequelle · 23/04/2019 12:40

The only situation I don't like it is if they refer to themselves as a doctor in a medical setting. Like in America some of the nurses have PHDs and introduce themselves as doctor. Which seems disingenuous to me especially as some wear lab coats.

Tattoo haters are absolute bores who need to find a purpose in life rather than being obsessed with someone else's skin.

Foslady · 23/04/2019 12:43

Not every new partner is evil.
Not every partner’s child is an angel (esp true when an adult).

badlydrawnperson · 23/04/2019 12:46

Tattoo haters are absolute bores who need to find a purpose in life rather than being obsessed with someone else's skin.

That's another one that isn't an unpopular opinion - it's the view of 99% on here.

coolwalking · 23/04/2019 12:47

Eating food that doesn't originate from the UK doesn't make you multicultural or diverse

FunkyKingston · 23/04/2019 12:53

Probably already been mentioned but:

People cannot change sex. Transwomen are not women, vice versa for transmen

Children do better in a traditional married upbringing, mother and father

I do not care one jot about climate change

Multiculturalism is not a good thing

Amazonly no, your particularly set of base and pig ignorant prejudices haven't beem widely aired on this thread because the overwhelming majority of people on this haven't confused it with a Britain First /UKIP forum.

ooooohbetty · 23/04/2019 12:53

Being a sahm is much easier than going to work. If you are a sahm all the cooking and housework is your job.

Ohyesiam · 23/04/2019 13:00

I am of the opinion that the false nails that lots of young women wear are minging. Particularly the ones that have a humped shape. They look like “ clubbed” nails, which is a sign of various severe diseases that doctors look for during diagnosis.
To me that is an odd fashion choice.

motherheroic · 23/04/2019 13:01

Our prisons need to actually work on rehabilitating or prisoners instead of locking them up and throwing them out without any tools.

We should implement the successful needle exchange program instead of jailing drug users.

motherheroic · 23/04/2019 13:03

@badlydrawnperson Are you going to contribute or just police?

DrCoconut · 23/04/2019 13:04

Marriage does not always offer protection to women. If you have a decent job, pension etc and things don't work out it could well completely shaft you, especially if your "no longer D"H earns less than you.
Women spend 9 months growing a baby and then push it out of their vagina/undergo major surgery, therefore maternity/paternity leave, pay etc is always going to be inherently "unfair", no amount of equality legislation can change that.
Threads that start along the lines of "we have a modest income of £80k" or "help, this year's holiday budget is only £5k" lose me early on.
6th formers are still children within the household (assuming you are supporting them as is usual) and while you shouldn't baby them YANBU to want to know where they are, insist that they study or refuse to let them do things that you're uncomfortable with (smoking, drugs, staying out all night, having new boyfriends or girlfriends sleep over etc). I see so many people worried about their teen being told he/she is an adult and it's not your business. If my (hypothetical) 16 YO is shoplifting, smoking weed and risking pregnancy then it is my business.

NotACleverName · 23/04/2019 13:08

People who martyr themselves going to work (i.e. I'd never take a day off unless my head was hanging off) are not impressive.

The term "cis" does not offend me.

I do not feel threatened by transwomen.

Glinner is a fucking shitty human being.

FWR's misuse of the AAVE term "woke" like it's some kind of insult irks me.

America bashing is tedious.

I'd much rather dogs be allowed into places than uncontrolled children.

LTB is bandied about too much. Ditto narcissist.

If you use "naice" seriously, you'll be the first to go when the revolution comes.

Snapped and farted WAS NOT FUNNY. LET. IT. DIE.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 23/04/2019 13:11

Threads like this are an exceptionally useful way to identify the cunts, wankers and attentions seekers on here.
They are also useful at proving that HQ don't give a shit and it's all about the clicks

Prequelle · 23/04/2019 13:13

Why come into an unpopular opinion thread if you're just going to complain because they've proven as unpopular as they're supposed to be.

Jiggles101 · 23/04/2019 13:13

Center Parcs is overpriced and shit.

Ditto Boden/Joules.

Pathological Narcissism is incredibly rare, particularly in women. Your MiL is probably just a twat.

TheFastandCurious · 23/04/2019 13:16

Calling people cunts wankers and attention seekers for having unpopular opinions seems a little...

Attention seeking??

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 23/04/2019 13:17

Just my opinion
Or am I not allowed to voice my opinion
How odd
There was me thinking it was a thread to share opinions

BastardGoDarkly · 23/04/2019 13:19

Well this has shone a light on some right wankers hasn't it? Hmm

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 23/04/2019 13:19

I see trees as a good thing and despair at the eagerness to cut them down.
