To ask WTH happened to me?

LeukaeLucky · 22/04/2019 09:56

Hi mumsnetters
The weirdest thing happened to me last night and I'm hoping to get some reassurance or guidance on what it could be.
So I'm about to go to bed but realise I have forgotten to take the clothes from the washing machine out.
I'm getting to the kitchen and my legs start feeling really heavy like I'm about to faint. I decide to not take any risk and lie down on the kitchen floor. My whole body feels heavy. I call my oldest daughter (14) to help me stand. I try to get up but I literally feel like I'm weighing 200 tonnes
Even talking feels difficult
She encourages me to sit but my left side feels even heavier than the rest of my body so every time I manage to sit I fall down on my left side. I end up soiling myself and somehow manage to stand and shower. I then go to the toilet and bang my head on the sink my entire body weight seems to be going toward my left
I ended up managing to go to bed with the help of my oldest child but I'm freaking out. What was that? Why couldn't I lift my body up? Shall I see a gp tomorrow?

Why on earth didn't you call an ambulance? What did 111 say?

MrsMozartMkII · 22/04/2019 11:29

I have all my bits crossed for you lass.

Justaboy · 22/04/2019 11:33

On my way to A&E feeling silly really. Didn't realise it could be so serious

Good! best thing your likely to do all day week month year onwards!

Do NOT feel silly it all looks like a stroke event but may not be But if it is the sooner treated the better the outcome:)

And do teach the DD how to call for help no one will ever blame you for her doing that even if it is a false alarm!

Do let us know how you got on if you can.

Best of luck:)

HBStowe · 22/04/2019 11:35

Sounds very much like a stroke and it’s incredibly important that you seek medical attention immediately. You can’t be sure you won’t have another. Please don’t mess around with this.

I hope you’re ok Flowers

princessTiasmum · 22/04/2019 11:36

Sounds like a TIA definitely, this happened to my son, if you have not yet been to A&E please go now

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 22/04/2019 11:36

Glad you are going to A&E. Don’t be too hard on yourself it’s easier from the outside looking in sometimes to see when something is more serious than you think.

Rezie · 22/04/2019 11:37

I used to work in stroke unit. Yes, majority of people there were 60+ but youngest were in their early 20's. It can be really intense migraine attack or something else but always I'd you feel numbness you should get it check out. In strokes timing is everything.

acomingin · 22/04/2019 11:37

Hope they can help you, OP. Well done for going.

3luckystars · 22/04/2019 11:39

Well of course you weren't thinking straight, it sounds very frightening.

I'm glad you are seeking help today. Good luck.

exWifebeginsat40 · 22/04/2019 11:39

i hope you’re ok OP.

but - at 14 your DD doesn’t know how to call an ambulance?

CustardySergeant · 22/04/2019 11:42

You're not driving to A&E are you?
Your daughter should have known what 999 is for at 14 yrs old.

TigersRoll · 22/04/2019 11:43

14 year old didn’t know how to call an ambulance? Not wanting to kick you while you’re down OP but that is unbelievable

Amber0685 · 22/04/2019 11:50

Good luck OP, let us know how you get on

TheInvestigator · 22/04/2019 11:50

A 14 year old doesn't know how to call an ambulance? Unless there are severe SEN then what the hell? How on earth could she not know what to do? My 5 year old knows! But by 14 she shouldn't even need to be taught. She must watch TV and she will have had assemblies at school on the subject.

What if your house went on fire? What if she took a bad fall out on her own or one of her friends was hit by a car? You're telling us she doesn't know how to call for help? Jeez.

MarinaPunta · 22/04/2019 11:52

I have had something very similar. Rang 111 and they immediately sent an ambulance, had all the tests for suspected TIA. They said, in all likelihood, it was a rare type of migraine called Hemiplegic migraines that had the same symptoms as a stroke. I have been told that I should still ring an ambulance if it happens again that severely.

winepls · 22/04/2019 11:57

Really hope you're ok OP, that must have been so scary 😢 xx

LarryGreysonsDoor · 22/04/2019 12:02

I hope all is ok op.

It is a reminder to all that we need to make sure all DC know how to call for an ambulance etc.

LeukaeLucky · 22/04/2019 12:03

I didn't drive no. Took a uber
As expected the waiting room is full.
Re: 14yo not knowing how to call for an ambulance
I never taught her how to and we've never had a TV so she probably missed out on the adverts / cultural references from shows...

Please go to A&E....age isn't really a factor, my husband had one at 23

SirVixofVixHall · 22/04/2019 12:07

Hope all is ok op. I thought stroke /TIA as soon as I read your post. More strokes are happening in under fifties now, no one knows why, but even babies can have strokes.

AnyFucker · 22/04/2019 12:08

Has your 14 yo been locked in a cupboard all her life? Confused

Sexnotgender · 22/04/2019 12:09

Hope you’re ok and get seen soon.

domton · 22/04/2019 12:10

I had a minor stroke in February. I'm 40. A minor stroke is not the same as a TIA, the symptoms in a TIA are transient. A small stroke not so transient, but not as debilitating.

Mine wasn't typical, a gradual sort of weakness...indeed so not typical that I wnet to GP who sent me to hospital, and I went home for a coffee first as I was so convinced it was minor thing as the GP was being a drama queen. Wink I went in on Tuesday, slightly weak and by Thursday I couldn't lift my arm at all.

Not all strokes are your typical FAST symptoms.

Very glad you are being seen to, and best wishes xx

cheeseypizza · 22/04/2019 12:11

This can't be real?! A 14 year old doesn't know how to call for an ambulance?!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 22/04/2019 12:11

The symptoms could be a fit, stroke, tia, faint any of a dozen things but the fact you were incontinent is a huge red flag
The 14 year old who doesn't know about 999 is a whole other level of weirdness
