I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

@PollodePrimavera I met Sara Cox along time ago in a night club in Belfast, me and my friends spoke to her for a while, she was great craic.

I had a couple of cookery classes and a chef's dinner with James Martin last year, and he's exactly as he is on TV. Big, blokey and good company. Food's not bad either.

Butterfly98 · 29/04/2019 22:53

@abbey44 I've always liked James Martin and his recipes too!! He comes across on TV as what you see is what you get with no sides to him

His love of Liverpool never extended to Cilla Black, a Scouse Tory.

He recounts how the singer smeared him as “not even a Scouser” for spending the first three days of his life in Blackpool.

Eric, as he was christened, was born there after his mother was evacuated at the start of the Second World War before quickly returning home.

“I might’ve been away for the first three days of my life but Cilla Black was away for more than 40 years of hers,” he sneers.

One to enjoy the final laugh, he tells a story about Cilla in panto at the Liverpool Empire. Holding a sword to a villain’s throat, Cilla asks: “Boys and girls, how should I punish him?

According to him, a drunk shouted back: “You could always sing.”

Adele Geras - she came to my school, and the book she'd just published had two main characters with the same (unusual) names as me and my sister.

JT Nimoy - if Spock's cousin counts (apart from in their own right as a digital artist).

Tony Blair - we were on a Young Labour tour of Downing St and he came in from playing squash. This was before we knew he was evil.

Heather Mills - she is a patron of a charity I used to work for, so called and came to the office occasionally.

Jeremy Corbyn - we were eating at the same Pizza Express and he apologised for any disruption.

rosiejaune · 01/05/2019 23:50

Oh, and Tim Peake, at a space event.

abbey44 · 02/05/2019 01:34

Oh, this was a few years ago - Prince Andrew, at a party. Complete and utter arse. Shorter (and wider) than you'd think, and entitled....wow. Off the scale. Only interested in hot totty.

Claire Sweeney (same party) - absolutely lovely. Said how much she loved my shoes (they were, admittedly, rather gorgeous - shocking pink patent leather stilettos with diamante buckles) and was really easy to talk to.

AGoodWench · 02/05/2019 09:05

Claire Sweeney always came across well.

Prince A less so!

DS is at University with Gordon Ramsey's son and occasionally hangs out with him socially (fb friends etc) He says that when Jack first started he would walk into a room and not introduce himself as he assumed everyone would know who he was! A bit more humble now apparently...

babyno5 · 02/05/2019 20:49

DS is at school and plays football with Aldo Zilli's son. School and football events quite amusing as both mum and dad turn up in baseball caps like they expect the paparazzi to jump out 😂. Also mum about a foot taller than dad-looks rather odd.

JudgeTinder · 05/05/2019 08:28

I met Philip Schofield at a school fair opening in the 80s. Even as a child I remember him being quite arrogant and the only thing I remember him saying was ‘no kisses please!’

I met Paul Daniels, Lionel Blair and Jeremy Beadle at an open day for a local retirement home. They were all lovely and stopped for photos and autographs. This was in the 80s when they were all well known!

As an adult I was at a children’s football match where Jamie Redknapp’s son was playing. Jamie and Louise were both there. Jamie was great with their younger son and took him off to play football nearby because he was too young to join in.

An ex actor from The Bill runs our local pub quiz. He is a good laugh and does it for free.

Boneshere · 05/05/2019 09:12

Jeffree Star - a darling, so skinny though but flawless. Signed my child's cast.
Manny Mua - a stuck up biatch, very up his own butt
Dermot O'Leary - Normal, down to earth
Paul Daniels - nice guy, signed some things for my kids
Gordon Ramsey - lovely, signed a book for me while walking through a car park, I had just brought it from Waterstones and missed the signing

Boneshere · 05/05/2019 09:14

Atomic kitten, the originals - they were nice!
That guy that sings Chico time, he was a douche, thought he was some A Lister

Scoose · 05/05/2019 09:38

bones I'm so jealous of jeffree star! I love his products!

Buster72 · 05/05/2019 09:41

I once gave directions in the street to Russel Brand

Mummyshark2019 · 05/05/2019 10:40

Margaret Thatcher. Lovely lady who was genuinely interested in me and family.

theboomtownrat · 05/05/2019 11:09

@Mummyshark2019 pity she couldn't show the same compassion for all the families her policies inflicted hardship on. Rotten old bitch she was.

yy558 · 05/05/2019 11:09

Another work lifetime ago
Alison steadman - was interning on a mark lawson programme, she was lovely.
Mark lawson seemed very busy and into his script so it could be seen as standoffish but it his job

Hayley atwell, very pretty and smily
Dj talent form BGT - he was a customer at the local Chinese place

yy558 · 05/05/2019 11:15

Forgot to add

Dan snow - so so so lovely

Parsley65 · 05/05/2019 13:32

Wow - fascinating stuff!

Mine are a bit thin on the ground in comparison, but here goes:-

Chris Tarrant - years ago when he was on Tiswas. Affable.

Spotted Nigel Havers doing a shoot in Amsterdam - again years ago. Whole entourage with him.

England cricketer/wicket keeper Godfrey Evans at an Ashes match in Australia in the 1990's. Invited to join the group as I was a Pom. Proper gent.

The Queen/Prince Philip drove through our village on the way to open a train station nearby. I only found this out later. I was the only person about and they both waved and smiled, while I just stood in shock and had my mouth open for at least ten minutes afterwards Grin

Some friends looked after the (retired) rabbits from the Teletubbies. They were very well cared for an much bigger than I expected.

WeMarchOn · 05/05/2019 14:05

@Boneshere no way I love Manny this makes me sad 😭

Shufflebumnessie · 05/05/2019 14:21

I've met a few through work.
The nice ones were:
Michael Jackson
David Beckham
Stephen Hawking
Lewis Hamilton
Andrew Lloyd-Webber
The Pusscat Dolls
Les Dennis
Kylie Minnogue

The not so pleasant ones:
Lead singer of Right Said Fred (he was verbally abusive to people because he didn't get his own way)
Vanilla Ice
Robbie Williams
Stephen Fry
Sarah Harding
Davina Mccall
Jamie Oliver
Brian Connolly
Russ Abbott
Ruth Langsford

Jack Black was somewhere in the middle.

makingmammaries · 05/05/2019 14:25

I met James Martin in private life and he was a tosser, arrogant and vindictive.

Met Nicolas Sarkozy before he was president and thought ‘yucky cynical git’. As he turned out to be.

makingmammaries · 05/05/2019 14:29

Was canvassed by Clare Balding back when we were both students. I was in the middle of an urgent essay and she would not go away. Very pushy.

makingmammaries · 05/05/2019 14:31

Met Mikhail Gorbachev via work. He was lovely.
