I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

Oh and Jonny Ball I accidentally rammed my pram into him at a children’s maths event 😳. He is sooo lovely and was very forgiving of me and my pram. I was sleep deprived, stressed had a tiny baby and trying to get my children to stop arguing when it happened. I wasn’t looking where I wa going.

I’m not up with half the celebs mentioned but randomly over the years met
Sade
Depeche Mode -lead singer
Jazzy B
Jon Snow

Through work:
Jon Snow - arrogant and bored
Awful - lead singer from simply red
Awful - manager of oasis back in the day Alan McGee (prick praying on Cool Britannia crap - very rude to staff and I had to deal)
Salman Rushdie (arse)
Hanif Kureishi (like son of Rushdie - super sneery)
Alistair Campbell (respect)
Ken Clarke (respect)

Really nice person was runner Kelly Holmes - pure cool and class.

Met many others through work but can’t renember details as it was years ago and never really star struck.

Ooh ds picked to go on stage In pants with Alfie moon from east east Enders. He still has the gift he was given on stage.

BikeRunSki · 24/04/2019 19:45

Johnny Ball is lovely. Does he still count as a celeb? I met him at a high school careers fair in Barnsley about 12 years ago. I was there representing the Institution of Civil Engineers. He and I had a lovely chat about lightbulbs over tea and biscuits.

Met Nick Knowles in a lift in Birmingham about 15 years ago, and thought he was a bit of a smug idiot. Friend of ours worked on a DIY SOS as a local gardner, and said he was lovely.

Avebury · 24/04/2019 20:05

In defence of Amanda Holden a friend of a friend knows her through her DC and says she is absolutely lovely and really good fun.

Ivegotthree · 24/04/2019 20:13

James Blunt: cocky twat
Kylie: lovely
Cat Deeley: loveliest person ever
Miranda Hart: tiny bit self obsessed but ok
Rachel Johnson: social climbing and awful
Andrew Pierce: hilarious and charming
Sophie Raworth: lovely
Rupert Everett: kind and funny
Lots of Insta mums: all too into themselves
Tim Henman: shy and lovely

All through work

Can’t believe I forgot to tell you about this one!!!
Prince Harry has an honourary command position within my DH’s regiment, and has visited the base on a few occasions in the last few years. I used to work in a civilian role on camp so would often go and meet my DH for lunch in his shared office. I was pregnant with DC1 and suffering with horrendous morning sickness and had to go throw up in the toilets. The toilets happen to be right in the middle of the huge communal space in the building, and as I exited the toilets, green faced, watery-eyed and snotty, there he was: His Royal Highness Blush being given a tour round the building. It was a real “oh for fuck sake, what hideous timing” moment Blush I managed to get back into DH’s office unnoticed, but as he’s in quite a specialist role, HRH just had to pop in and have a look around Confused DH introduced me as his wife, I bobbed into a pretty pathetic curtsey, said a quick hello-goodbye and toddled off back to work Blush

Not my finest hour.

I like these threads but people could so easily make things up! Guess that's the same as any thread on Mumsnet though..

"I worked in a hotel when i left school, i met Paul McCartney and his wife, David Essex, Harold McMillan, Bay City Rollers, Shirley Bassey"

I never realised Paul MacCartney's wife had such a long name.

I was lucky to spend an evening with Sir Terry Pratchett and Steven Briggs many years ago. It was the second Discworld convention and we spent the weekend camping in a farmers field. I was one of the very few female fans there.
Almost 19 years later and it’s still one of my favourite memories.

IntoValhalla · 24/04/2019 21:12

Not a clue why that post was deleted Confused

GreyGardens88 · 24/04/2019 21:54

No mention of Anthony Head! He's normally all over these threads!

gauffres · 24/04/2019 22:27

@LittleMissHappy19 just catching up with this thread! The flight with "Toff" on, was that to the Maldives? Had a very similar experience on a flight with her in January. I managed a sneaky pic of her scowling while she was trying unsuccessfully to get her seat next to her mate. Was on the return flight home with her too and they managed to sit together for that one!

Barry Manilow - quiet, shy and very self deprecating - also one of the kindest people I have ever met. He did some really special things (unasked for) for my family that we will always treasure.

Forthepurposesofthetape · 24/04/2019 23:52

Please can no-one say anything bad about Davina, it will shatter my world if she is not enthusiastically enthralled by everyone she meets.

GabsAlot · 24/04/2019 23:58

yeah i bet amanda holden is only nice to those she deems worthy

scissorsandpen · 24/04/2019 23:59

I wonder if anyone on here is a celebrity reading this thread !

BenjiB · 25/04/2019 00:04

Johnathon Ross. He was in the bookshop opposite my office many years ago. We were all staring out the window when he looked up so we all ducked behind the reception desk. Next minute he walks into the office cracked up at us all hiding 🤣. Very nice guy and gave us tickets to the show he did back them.

Maccy2018 · 25/04/2019 00:08

I’ve met Shaun Williamson aka Barry from eastenders in a take away shop he had been drinking he came in waited in line for about a minute & then walked up to the counter & said “do you know who I am” & he was rude & demanding.
I met Julie Hesmondhalgh aka Hayley Cropper on a virgin train but didn’t recognise her I was telling my kids off as they wouldn’t get into the chairs (my boy has asd) & we were holding everyone up I turned to her & said “I’m really sorry about this” & she said “don’t worry take your time” finally got sorted & I knew I knew her from somewhere but for the life of me couldn’t place her (it took me 2 days to remember who she was lol)
When I was younger I went to see Jason Donovan but got trampled on & ended up getting carried out by security guards & put in the medical room he did a sign poster with a personal message on it & came to give it to me, he seemed nice.

strawberrisc · 25/04/2019 00:36

Soooooo jealous of the David Duchovy meeting.

BEYOND jealous of the Louis Theroux.

PurpleFlower1983 · 25/04/2019 02:50

David Duchovny! Wow!

I met Gillian Anderson but only briefly after a play she was in. Nice lady!

DietriotukMN · 25/04/2019 04:11

Gordon Ramsay came to the dental practice I worked at a few years ago. He is super tall, really polite and smells amazing. I really liked him

A bit vague sorry - few years ago teen DS asked us to pick up a copy of a heavy metal band magazine on our way home. We stopped off at the motorway services and DH was at the magazine racks in WH Smiths and selected a copy of the magazine. Just then a young lad standing next to him said so thing like: that's me on the cover you know. Turns out the band on the cover who had just had their first big hit were on tour and had stopped off at the services. DH congratulated him and the next minute was surrounded by the rest of the group who signed the magazine for DS and posed for photos. All so sweet to see how excited they were - nothing like the steotypes for metal bands. Can't remember the name of the group sorry.
