I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

I met Rowan Williams (former Archbishop of Canterbury), Michael Palin and Martin Freeman at a party.

Elderflower14 · 25/04/2019 10:55

Just remembered another. Anthony Head. Ds2 and I were at Discover Dogs. AH was lovely and very impressed when ds showed him the sign language for vampire!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

EdWinchester · 25/04/2019 12:06

Isn’t there a ‘thing’ on MN about Anthony Head? He’s adored on here!

DarlingNikita · 25/04/2019 12:18

Yes, everyone on here (except me!) seems to have met him on a train or in Waitrose or something, and unfailingly everyone gushes about how utterly charming he is.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 25/04/2019 12:20

I haven't met Anthony Head! more's the pity because I bloody love him

I'm glad to hear he's lovely though!

AnnaBanana2020 · 25/04/2019 12:49

Stanley Tucci and Felicity Blunt! I was at a&e with DS after he’d cut his head open and they were both there with their DS. He was sitting right next to us.

DarlingNikita · 25/04/2019 12:52

Oh, I LOVE Tucci! Please tell us you spoke to him and he was nice.

Greenteandchives · 25/04/2019 13:15

I asked Christopher Biggins the way to the toilets at an event.
Clive Lloyd (famous WI cricketer). We were invited to meet him at a cocktail party once at a posh hotel we were staying at. We think the staff there thought we were famous as they fawned over us hugely. We are not.
Lots of rugby players via my ds.
Gary Lineker. I asked for his autograph at an event. His then wife was annoyed.
Used to do Spin classes with Roy Cropper before he moved away. He seemed just like he is on Corrie, but then fellow spinners never acknowledged that we knew who he was.
Best of all, I met Sooty and shook his paw. He was with Harry Corbett then, years ago.

I’ve been to two press conferences for George Clooney films. He was very considerate to the press, funny and polite. Very conscientious about signing stuff and having pics taken and chatting with fans. The rest of the cast (one of the Oceans films) were all very professional and good with press and fans too especially Matt Damon.

In LA on holiday a friend who works for Warner Bros took us into the outside press pen at a premiere of one of Ben Afflecks films (can’t remember which). My friend pushed DD (big Affleck fan at the time) forward as he walked past and he stopped and chatted to her, had his photo taken with her. He was so sweet despite it being a big night and absolutely torrenting down with rain at the time.

Was on a train to London in the same carriage (not first class) as William, Kate, George and Charlotte. They were very quiet, nobody bothered them and William took George to the loo a few times. I was so surprised they weren’t in first class?

My DB was a stagehand in a production with Bill Nighy before he was properly famous (Bill, not my DB). He used to have a pint and a chat with DB in the interval was a really nice, down to earth chap. DB was so happy for him when he finally was ‘discovered’ and was properly famous.

Ivegotthree · 25/04/2019 14:39

The Cambridges in standard class! I love it!

Meghan never would!

TitchyP · 25/04/2019 14:42

I sold something to the Duchess of Marlborough on eBay once. Does that count? That's all I have Grin

AutumnCrow · 25/04/2019 14:45

@Greenteaandchives What was Sooty like in RL? I've heard he's a bit up his own arse.

Chatted to Ian Brown from the Stone Roses in a bar after a gig once. He was very nice, happily chatted to anyone.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 25/04/2019 15:05

@AutumnCrow Grin

Greenteandchives · 25/04/2019 15:47

AutumnCrow 😂😂😂
He didn’t say very much actually. Nor did Harry Corbett, come to think of it.

Thanks Anna. He's so CUTE!

AlexaAmbidextra · 25/04/2019 16:35

I know this is a fairly lighthearted thread but I don’t think it’s on to take a sneaky pic of someone in the public eye while they’re in A&E and then upload it on to the internet. Gross invasion of privacy imo.

PoshRose · 25/04/2019 16:53

I've met Prince Willian quite a few times, he's lovely. Kate is a bit of a sour puss though

InTheHeatofLisbon · 25/04/2019 16:53

AlexaAmbidextra I agree about the invasion of privacy

MrsLeBon2 · 25/04/2019 17:25

Sorry @popsadaisy - Holly's been a massive beeyatch since school!

CaveDrawer · 25/04/2019 17:27

OMG Sooty. Am in awe. He is a legend 💕

AutumnCrow · 25/04/2019 17:34

Good call, Anna and MN.

Normandy144 · 25/04/2019 18:01

Someome upthread reminded me! Back in the late 90s/early 2000s Jeremy Hunt was a client of ours. He was not one of our favourites. Let's just say we had another name for him!!
Ian Waite off Strictly is lovely. Currently attending his dance lessons and he is lovely and funny, just like he is on TV.
