To smoke in my own garden

LittleBear4 · 21/04/2019 16:54

I am a smoker. I smoke 10 fags a day and I'm not planning on giving it up yet (one day!).

In smoke in my garden, I've got two neighbours either side and one every time I'm smoking will come out and say 'it stinks out here' and will start to cough loudly.

It's really getting on my nerves, I can't move down the end of the garden because it's tiny and would make no difference at all but AIBU to hate the passive aggressive comments when I'm smoking in my garden?

millie good for you Millie but don't speak for the rest of us who care about our health and our kids health in relation to this. Read up the risks of second hand smoking if you haven't already. If you can smell something, you're breathing in the dangerous substances.

TheCatDidSay · 21/04/2019 17:42

I can smell my neighbour smoking in his garden from my living room! Should I never open a door or window so he can stink out the place? No his just a selfish arse.

SlappingJoffrey · 21/04/2019 17:43

You've basically just decided them and theirs are lower in the priority order than yours, and you're annoyed they have the temerity to talk about it? Don't take the piss any more than you already are.

Darkstar4855 · 21/04/2019 17:43

YANBU to smoke. They ANBU to make comments about it.

exLtEveDallas · 21/04/2019 17:44

I wonder how many people on this thread have taken advantage of the weather and had a BBQ this weekend?

That's a lot more anti-social than the OP having a fag in her garden.

LittleBear4 · 21/04/2019 17:44

Yes I care about my children more than my neighbours, shocking I know.

I'll put headphones on, thanks for the suggestions.

Ever walked through a city centre on a Saturday night? Most of those standing out smoking are in the 20-35 age bracket

Not this city at all. I can't think of anyone in that bracket that smokes. But obviously that is quite a specific sample as I'm in that bracket and live nowhere near any smokers.

I would cough, sorry. My lungs are buggered (never having smoked) and full of cancer so a coughing fit will usually make my sick which is pretty gross to listen to. I wouldn't come outside specifically to cough though, that is officially weird, not to mentioned shortening my lifespan which seems like a pretty odd decision. Are they hoping their comments will deter you?

InsertFunnyUsername · 21/04/2019 17:45

YANBU its your garden, do what you like.

JacquesHammer · 21/04/2019 17:45

Nope. I don’t own one.

happyhillock · 21/04/2019 17:45

Bloody hell your allowed to smoke in your own garden, anti smoker's are a bunch of hypocrite's they drive gas guzzling car's that do more harm to asthma suffer's than smoker's do, i'm a smoker who smokes in my garden if the neighbour's don't like it tough, i don't tell them how to live there lives.

PookieDo · 21/04/2019 17:46

I don’t own a BBQ I CBA to have another object to clean

ExhaustedGrinch · 21/04/2019 17:46

I wonder how many of the anti-smoking folk drive cars and pollute everyones lungs everytime they jump in the car ... or is that okay? Amazes me that everyone on here gets all up in arm over a few cigarettes yet scoffs at those of us who opt not to drive.

OP YANBU.

JacquesHammer · 21/04/2019 17:47

Everyone? The exact same people both criticise smoking and mock you for not driving?

formerbabe · 21/04/2019 17:47

Yes I care about my children more than my neighbours, shocking I know

This reminds me of people who have baby on board signs on their car, but drive like twats. Because their children are so precious we must all be extra careful but everyone else's are so worthless we should drive like maniacs...

PookieDo · 21/04/2019 17:47

I did move partly due to smokers in itself. Nothing I said to them made any difference. I asked them to move further away from the building and they wouldn’t. Woman smoked heavily all the way through her pregnancy and indoors with her baby. I felt sorry for the baby

TheCatDidSay · 21/04/2019 17:47

I don’t drive or smoke so can I judge? I also don’t fly abroad 😇

Margot33 · 21/04/2019 17:47

@Fairylea your poor mum, copd is a horrible disease. Sending you hugs. My mother has this too and is on oxygen at night. It's affecting her balance so is in a wheelchair now, she is only in her early seventies. The doctor said copd is very common today, because of smoking and heavy pollution.

bigchris · 21/04/2019 17:48

It's always live and let live until it comes to smokers on here

I don't berate my neighbours for being obsess and draining the nhs because I'm not a rude person

RomanyQueen1 · 21/04/2019 17:49

wait until they go out in their car and stand on the front doing the same Grin
do what you want on your own property if you aren't breaking the law.

AllTheChickensIHaveLoved · 21/04/2019 17:49

I have no problem with the smell of a bbq. Not to mention that they might use the bbq ten times a year this being Britain and all. 10 fags a day EVERY day is far worse.

PolarBearBubbles · 21/04/2019 17:49

Your children are getting your second hand smoke even though you smoke outside. How anyone can smoke when they have children baffles me. If not damaging your children's health isn't enough of a reason to encourage you to stop, I don't know what is.

Onceuponacheesecake · 21/04/2019 17:50

But it does smell and it does set some people off coughing. Get yourself a little shed and smoke in there if you don't like listening to your neighbours complain

AllTheChickensIHaveLoved · 21/04/2019 17:50

don't berate my neighbours for being obsess and draining the nhs because I'm not a rude person

Are they wiping good in your dace, or is it the sight of them that offends you? Everyone does something that self inflicts in damage to them. Smoking inflicts damge on others.

Bbang · 21/04/2019 17:51

It is awful to live next door to an outside smoker, especially in the summer. Can’t sit out, can’t hang washing out, can’t have windows open etc.

You have a right to be annoyed but they have a right to express their distaste.

Smoking is vile and only harms you and everyone around you, stay inside or quit if you don’t like it.

Prequelle · 21/04/2019 17:52

I wonder how many people on this thread have taken advantage of the weather and had a BBQ this weekend?

Are we really trying to compare one day a year of merriment verses noxious fumes once per hour, 365 days a year?
