Hi all!

I've read lots about cfers on here but now I think I actually have one?! Or maybe the heat and being 7 months pregnant is making me go mad ....

Anyway! Just had garden done last weekend so I'm enjoying it lots now it's hot :-) ddog is also enjoying the new sprinkler! Today we planned on having a bbq at about 3/4 with some family members coming round. Dh was just outside setting it all up (getting bbq out cleaning it etc).

Ndn (who I know enough to say hi to/take parcels in but that's about it) has just messaged me on fb to ask if we are having a bbq. I assumed she was asking because of washing or something so I said yes at about 3. She then replied asking if she could use it too as there garden is a state and they have no bbq? I said they were welcome to join us if she liked (they have always seemed nice and I'm up for making new friends!). Anyway she didn't respond at first but now she's messaged saying no thank you they are going to an Easter egg hunt later but if they could use it before they go at about 2 that would be great????

What on Earth?! I've just replied saying I don't think that will work for us (fave mumsnet phrase!) 😂 but Aibu to think she's a cf? Or am I just not being neighbourly?

Unless I’ve missed it how did she found out about the bbq in the first place. Did she just see dh cleaning the barbie. Especially as you were setting up whilst keeping us all informed.

Thanks for a great thread op

Donotunderstandmyhouse · 21/04/2019 20:06

@CantStopMeNow yes I'm not sure what to do now...admittedly ddog thinks he is a guard dog so would alert us to anyone being in the garden immediately and we often leave him out there (he can't get out). I guess time shall tell!

@Still18atheart I assume she saw dh or her husband did :-) I was inside folding a mountain of baby clothes when she messaged me to ask :-)

@CantStopMeNow he's actually a very deluded beagle pug cross 🙄

DF has just announced that he once caught my mother hanging out of her skylight to clean some bird poo off of the roof tile so clearly it runs in the family!!!

Your mother is a woman after my own heart!

Donotunderstandmyhouse · 21/04/2019 20:11

@SchadenfreudePersonified she's a clean freak.. I do not have this gene and I know it upsets her to come over to ours and see ddog lying all over my sofa. They have no pets and my sister that lives at home is a teenager but she still hoovers 3 times a day 🙄

Still18atheart · 21/04/2019 20:11

In that case do you reckon they had a conflab last night about they fancy a bbq as it’s going to be a nice day tomorrow, and to keep an eye out of any neighbours who look like they are prepping one. And you’re dh was an unsuspecting victim. Wonder if they are well known in the street for hijacking bbqs?

huggybear · 21/04/2019 20:11

Op, you're great. Your whole family is great. CF ndn is a great CF.

Donotunderstandmyhouse · 21/04/2019 20:12

@Still18atheart Hahahaha I like it! Bbq ninjas? I'm so pleased she messaged me and did not get her dh to ask mine as he would undoubtedly have said their original request to use it before us was fine. -Then huffed for hours after-

Strikethrough fail!

@huggybear thank you :-) this thread is making me well up (pregnancy hormones!) we are all just as mad as a bunch of frogs I think!

Great thread and excellent OP participation.

But heed caution Donot, befriending neighbours can sometimes backfire.

My general rule is that of a polite hello, and the odd 30 second musing about the weather.... Becoming friends can sully the waters, with boundaries taking a backseat.

This particular CF has already demonstrated some stellar potential.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 21/04/2019 20:15

My dh went up a minute ago to prove to my dad that you couldn't possibly fall out (yes this is still being discussed)

Redshoeblueshoe · 21/04/2019 20:17

Thanks for posting. My neighbours are all lovely, so I don't get any of this type of amusement Grin

Donotunderstandmyhouse · 21/04/2019 20:17

@Monestasi don't worry I don't think there is much chance of friendship here! 😛

@SchadenfreudePersonified I did point out if he fell out he would never live it down (literally) and id have to explain to our unborn child what had happened...all because of a mumsnet thread!

@Redshoeblueshoe my last house the neighbours were also lovely... ironically this seemed to be a much more family orientated street so hopefully the rest are less CFs!

AlletrixLeStrange · 21/04/2019 20:21

I just want to know if you had let them use it before you, were they expecting you to supply the food too? Like if you'd say yes would she have come and knocked on your window asking you to pass out the sausages and vegetarian kebabs Grin

Buscake · 21/04/2019 20:21

Just send this back to her:

😂

Donotunderstandmyhouse · 21/04/2019 20:23

@AlletrixLeStrange I will probably get flamed for this but there has never been a vegetarian kebab in this house and I doubt there ever will be!! 😂

Donotunderstandmyhouse · 21/04/2019 20:24

@Buscake I still haven't even replied 😳 I've been sat for ages reading this out to my mum and now they've left and I'm sat eating a magnum 😂 she can probably see me from her kitchen window...must be wondering why I haven't responded.

I'm assuming she's in the kitchen making something to feed her starving children...

@SchadenfreudePersonified dear god please do not attempt to fall out of the skylight or we will all end up in the daily fail!

Donotunderstandmyhouse · 21/04/2019 20:32

Ah you guys are too kind!

Right I am off to help dh tidy but it has been a pleasure :-) I don't think I'll bother replying to ndn tonight as I don't really know what to say! But if anything else occurs rest assured I shall update you all!!

Thanks for the laughs!!!!
