...I'm out of bleeps. What a fucking cheek, flying five and half thousand miles spewing pollution all over the skies to stop people getting on a bus????

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-47987891

Wonder if she wants a cab to take her to the airport?

OP posts:
AwdBovril · 19/04/2019 22:03

She seems to be one of the type that jumps in to the latest cause to catch her eye, with her feet first & her eyes closed.

JessieMcJessie · 19/04/2019 22:08

Look, a general shift towards flying less may eventually cause the aviation industry to reduce the number of flights overall. But that would all be too late to stop the plane that Emma Thompson took from flying yesterday, whereas her support might just increase momentum behind the movement that will spur everyone towards more root and branch change.

AlexaAmbidextra · 19/04/2019 22:09

Well, she’s just a typical bleeding heart, leftie hypocrite isn’t she? Do as I say but not as I do. I wonder if she’s taken any refugees into one of her large and expensive homes yet? People like her make me want to fucking throw up. 🤮

Ivegotthree · 19/04/2019 22:10

YANBU

Can't stand the woman. Dreadful hypocrite.

Except thats not what has happened is it? It has just annoyed people and if anything has had the opposite effect!

ExCwmbranDweller · 19/04/2019 22:14

I think (annoyingly enough because I was reading this thread as pissed off as most) that she did actually take a refugee into her home and this is the young man she now calls her son. Might be easier for some with bigger homes and more resources but to be fair through gritted teeth she has lead by example on this one.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/04/2019 22:14

I think she is being mocked all over the press she certainly isn’t helping the cause

Still she had her holiday before joint the protest good lass is our Emma

beebreath · 19/04/2019 22:16

Where are the protesters getting their drinking water from ? Plastic bottles ?

JessieMcJessie · 19/04/2019 22:19

No, she has annoyed some people who have come on MN to complain, but what you see here is not representative of the public as a whole. She’s fairly well liked. And people having a pop at her for easy criticisms like “ooh she came on a PLANE, the hypocrite” are grossly over-simplifying the matter.

I also disagree with “MPs are on holiday, what’s the point of protesting when they won’t be paying attention?”. 1. They will still be following the news and 2. It’s the public who elect the MPs, so of course a protest that gets the attention of the public is worthwhile. Brexit tells us that democracy can effect very powerful change indeed

Almostfifty · 19/04/2019 22:27

Emma Thompson lives in London.

She may go to LA frequently, but she also has a house in Scotland where she spends a lot of time. So, coming here may well be normal for this time of year for her family.

jessicawessica · 19/04/2019 22:28

Yes, it does get the attention of the public, but not in a good way. It just pisses them off because they can't get to work.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/04/2019 22:31

Even on The Independent site the write up about her was underhand mocking

The Guardian probably not

I am not sure she is hugely loved I think most people find her patronising and pretentious

Not quite sure how we over over simplifying that matter - the point is she didn’t bother attending the first day as she herself was away and secondly she didn’t have to fly in to join the protest in the hope of getting arrested Hmm modern technology would have got her message over

jessicawessica · 19/04/2019 22:33

And all this has done for ET is another PR opportunity.
She'll probably pop up next in Paris to "offer her views on how best" to start re building Notre Dame.
After arriving on a plane, of course.

bluejelly · 19/04/2019 22:35

I think what she did was great.
More people - particularly those in the public eye- should follow her example.
Far better than going to a vacuous award ceremony or releasing another lipstick line.

tiny little cloud-bolted, rainy corner of sort-of Europe, a cake-filled misery-laden grey old island

From what I saw on Twitter she annoyed a lot of people. I think it was exacerbated by the fact that she flew into Heathrow yesterday, and then there was an attempt to shut down Heathrow today.

Jb291 · 19/04/2019 22:42

She's a ghastly bleeding heart hypocritical luvvie who thinks she's better than everyone else. Her moralising and leftie political leanings are hideous.

Iflyaway · 19/04/2019 22:45

All well and good slagging off celebrities....

Bet you all drive a car anyway. NONE of us are without fault.

Me? I only have a pushbike.Smile

Any sleb that makes you pay attention to the shit the world is in - poverty/climate change/the disgusting state of our world with multi-billionaires while people starve is o.k. in my book.

I think it's great that George Clooney and Elton John fucked off the ruler of Brunei about their despicable sharia laws, stoning women and men - gay/adultery or whatever - to death.

I can rant and rave about it too (and work for NGOs) but who the fuck is going to listen to me, eh?! Smile

jessicawessica · 19/04/2019 22:49

Yeah I do drive a car....a diesel. Only because some wanker informed me that it would be better for the environment so we'll reward you with no road tax to pay.
Arses.

Iflyaway · 19/04/2019 22:49

I wonder if she’s taken any refugees into one of her large and expensive homes yet?

Have you?

No. Thought not.

Who knows what she does behind closed doors, eh?

jessicawessica · 19/04/2019 22:51

Am pretty sure George and Elton managed to afford to go to some other "really nice " hotel instead.

AnnaComnena · 19/04/2019 22:51

Bet you all drive a car anyway.

I don't.

HelenaDove · 19/04/2019 22:54

"Where are the protesters getting their drinking water from ? Plastic bottles"

i guess so. Much like Thames Water customers had to after the Beast from the East.

Didnt see any protests against TW at the time!

WatershedMoment · 19/04/2019 23:01

Wow, do people hate her per se, or just because she flew here? Im surprised at all the hate. I've always had a soft spot for ET. I think her hearts in the right place.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 19/04/2019 23:03

Bet you all drive a car anyway. NONE of us are without fault.

Yeah but I'm not pontificating to the great unwashed am I?
