...I'm out of bleeps. What a fucking cheek, flying five and half thousand miles spewing pollution all over the skies to stop people getting on a bus????

Wonder if she wants a cab to take her to the airport?

If there’s a protest she’ll be there. I could organise a protest about not being allowed to own a slave but as long as I worded it cleverly she’d turn up

EverardDigby · 19/04/2019 20:05

She pissed me off apologising on behalf of her generation, of which I am a member, saying we had let young people down but she can speak for herself because I for one have been campaigning about this for 30 years, as have many of my friends. I know she probably means collectively and not individually but I can't see how it helps to imply a generational divide in which only young people care and are doing something, she should be apologising to us older ones too for leaving us to it.

RosaWaiting · 19/04/2019 20:12

" I can't see how it helps to imply a generational divide in which only young people care and are doing something"

agree. mum and her friends (80s) are very much "make do and mend" types and mum would have liked more than 2 DC but thought it was irresponsible, especially as she was one of eleventy billion kids.

The sheer amount of waste/crap etc and all the stuff associated with it is not really about people in their 80s, is it? Consumer offerings and patterns were completely different.

I wonder if Emma Thompson would consider me small minded for not travelling....

Caucho · 19/04/2019 20:16

You would be a complete racist and xenophobe for not broadening your horizons and mixing with other cultures. So so insular

LadyRannaldini · 19/04/2019 20:26

Hope she gets arrested

Arrested? Moi? Isn't that for the plebs, not for celebrities like me!

Caucho · 19/04/2019 20:33

I think Emma T would love to be arrested because of the attention she would get so please don’t

dayswithaY · 19/04/2019 20:33

She wants to get arrested. That's why she's doing it.

SevenSeasofRye · 19/04/2019 20:34

I do think it's ludicrous that she would even consider flying from the US for a rally, even for a good cause.
The Royals make me sick though. PC pontificating on about this and that whilst keeping scores of huge houses heated and staffed, taking helicopters or flying on private jets with a huge entourage and all his favourite foods and even furniture. They need to wake up to themselves.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/04/2019 21:09
Grin

She can’t help herself can she jumping on the bandwagon what a twat she has made of herself

I wonder how she gets around LA it certainly won’t be by bike Hmm

Love the comment she was even smug when cheated on in Love Actually 😆😆 agree she is always smug

She has always been pretentious

beebreath · 19/04/2019 21:10

Bet she's staying in a nice swanky hotel tonight. Grin

AnnaComnena · 19/04/2019 21:23

Personally, I think that bitching about Britain is biting the hand that feeds, which is rude and disrespectful. No country is perfect but she's had a good life here, including access to healthcare and education and been supported in her career

Educated at Cambridge, no less, when there are countries where girls can't even access a basic level of education. Not to mention her Damehood. Bad manners to accept an honour then complain about the country that's given it to you. Privileged is the word to describe her, I think.

ginandbearit · 19/04/2019 21:25

She's the classic upper middle class type of do gooder, with a trendy pinch of soft Labour sneering at this country and the little people in it . Massive virtue signalling at every opportunity , and I remember her comedy series years ago that seemed to end every sketch with something to affront the middle classes ..epater les bourgoisie ?
I've met many people like her over the years who are loud in their condemnation of 'the deplorables ' while protecting their own privilege and status .

TattyOldbit · 19/04/2019 21:26

Wasn't the timing incidental though as doesn't she live here. To get back home was she supposed to walk?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/04/2019 21:34

With the help of technology she could have Skyped/FaceTimed/WhatsApp and appeared on a big screen and shown her support

But she wouldn’t have then run the risk of being arrested Hmm

JessieMcJessie · 19/04/2019 21:36

That’s what I was going to say Tatty - she was going to be coming home at some point anyway, surely?

Everyone criticising her- OK so she went on a plane to join the protest but she knew her involvement would raise the profile of the protests and the plane she took would have flown that journey regardless, so surely one flight was a tiny downside that was worth it?

RosaWaiting · 19/04/2019 21:40

Jessie I'm really baffled by that argument.

so the protesters think it's okay to disrupt Heathrow because we should be flying less, but her plane is fine? And their planes?

I'm amazed that you can't see the problem here. Also, the protests are pretty fucking high profile already.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 19/04/2019 21:42

Oooh the one thing that pisses me off on the subject more than hypocritical slebs is young people, who are generally raging consumerists and would turn their nose up at 'make do and mending' anything, blaming the 'older generation' for all of this.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/04/2019 21:45

She has massively shot herself in the foot

We could all say that one flight .... but it’s not it’s two flights as she will no doubt be returning to LA

It gets better she couldn’t join the first day of the protest as she was as away with her husband Grin

Oh Emma comedy gold don’t worry you go and spoil other people plans for their holidays once you have finished yours what a sweetie

HarryDaylight · 19/04/2019 21:45

One can only hope the protesters are out in force at Heathrow when Dame Emma flies back to her press agent in LA.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 19/04/2019 21:45

I feel a tiny bit sorry for her because of the embarrassment factor but she really can't get away with the fact that her career and her lifestyle means her personal carbon footprint is just thousands of times higher than the average westerner, let alone everyone else in the world.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 19/04/2019 21:45

the plane she took would have flown that journey regardless

My cousin, who constantly posts stuff about Greenpeace and how we are destroying the planet, but also goes on at least one long haul flight, and a couple of short haul as well (think Ibiza for hen do etc) a year, uses the 'well the plane is going anyway' argument. Argh!

jessicawessica · 19/04/2019 21:48

If the protestors want to attack the government for their inaction, then they might have done better than to it when they are on some bloody walking holiday (or wherever TM and Pip have gone).
These protests aren't affecting the government because they aren't the ones trying to get to work, are they?
The fact that I can't use public transport and am left with no choice but to drive is just shooting themselves in the foot. They won't be getting my support.

Jsmith99 · 19/04/2019 21:56

The genuine, sincere, committed protestors must be absolutely furious with Thompson. She has made a complete mockery of the whole thing.

To paraphrase Donald Tusk, there is a special place in hell for hypocritical, entitled, preaching, sanctimonious, virtue-signalling celebrities who think practicing what you preach is for the little people.

Fuck off in First Class Emma Thompson.

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 19/04/2019 21:57

Why is she a Dame anyway?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/04/2019 22:00

That a good point Jessica

I didn’t think about MP’s being away at the moment
