Found three grey hairs today.

Then stopped looking!

Wtf do I do?

(Dark hair... thinking blonde highlights?)

I am 38. Not 3 Blush Grin

TheSmallAssassin · 19/04/2019 00:23

I'm late 40s and dark brown. I have more and more grey hairs peppered through my hair every time I go to the hairdresser, but I'm fine with it and couldn't imagine getting on the treadmill (and the expense) of dying it. I'm fine as I am 😊

SpotlessMind · 19/04/2019 00:25

I'm 45 and noticed the first greys about a year ago and now I have a random sprinkling that i see when I'm standing under a light. I don't actually mind the colour, it's quite shiny and silverish, but the texture is annoying (thick and wirey, randomly sticking up at a right angle)

motherheroic · 19/04/2019 00:26

First grey hair at 11. Now 26 with a grey streak in the front. Not interested in being a slave to dye, so it stays.

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/04/2019 00:27

@EmeraldShamrock It's WAAAAYYYYY past your bedtime Grin

Pinkkahori · 19/04/2019 00:34

I'd love to see some pictures of dark brunettes going grey. Mine looks so obvious because of the contrast. My natural hair is very even coloured so I don't have natural highlights. Also my hair is straight and smooth and the greys are totally different in texture.
I don't personally know one woman in her 40s that is letting the grey show.

Pinkkahori · 19/04/2019 00:37

Also, it annoys me that it bothers me so much. I'm not generally bothered by my appearance. I don't wear make up day to day. I don't use 'anti-aging' products and i am a casual dresser.

iamH · 19/04/2019 00:38

@Pinkkahori I will get a picture in the morning before I put my root touch up on

Pinkkahori · 19/04/2019 00:42

Thanks iamH. I'm going to look at the going grey page someone mentioned up-thread too.

supermommyof4 · 19/04/2019 00:43

Hearhere & NaturatintGoldenChestnut, same here dye natural dark brown. It certainly doesn't tend to make me look much older. In fact i still got asked for ID in a pub whilst having a carvery with my 20 year old ds and 17yo dd. So it obviously hasnt done me any harm. Certainly not ready to go grey yet.

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/04/2019 00:47

@Pinkkahori This isn't me...but this is a good example of how my hair is going...I have a similar cut, except I have a shorter fringe, but the same choppy style. I have very dark hair and really pure silver streaks....I have also noticed that colours in terms of clothes that used to wash me out such as pale pinks, ice blues, greys, now look really good

To ask when you went grey, and what you did about it?
Pinkkahori · 19/04/2019 00:50

That does look good MrsC but it's the journey from 2 inch long grey wiry roots to that look that I can't get my head around.

bluetongue · 19/04/2019 00:55

I’m early 40’s and just starting to get some greys ay my temples. Currently in denial mode as I’m too lazy to dye it myself and too skint to pay to get it dyed. Plan to go the dye / highlights route once it gets more noticeable.

OhTheRoses · 19/04/2019 00:56

Natural cour was wild rodent Grin. Highlights to blonde it up from age 15. That continued until about 54. Not an early grey but quite white at the front now with a peppering throughout.

Since about 54, ie last 5 years, have had blonde, caramel and brown highlights every 6/7 weeks.

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/04/2019 01:09

@Pinkkahori Maybe I've been lucky, mine has just grown through fairly evenly. Although as I had to stop dyeing and start using henna some years ago, maybe that's made the transition easier? Mine isn't wiry either, the texture is the same as the rest of my hair. I've not got particularly thick hair but there's loads of it. I don't know what the answer is for you with this one. Perhaps do the henna route that I did...I used a dark brown cream which kept it in excellent condition and just made the grey look like highlights but as I said upthread, it's a faff you have to do weekly. Sodding hair!

Pinkkahori · 19/04/2019 01:13

I like the sound of the henna cream. I'm going to look into that option. Thanks.

HBStowe · 19/04/2019 01:17

31, dark hair, going grey. Balayage and a toner does the trick!

user1497863568 · 19/04/2019 01:20

Around 40. I have done nothing. I always resolved to be one of those cool silver haired women with a chic bob. The salt and pepper phase is just something I have to go through.

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/04/2019 01:31

@Pinkkahori Surya or Henne Color..ebay/Amazon

BunchOfBalloons · 19/04/2019 01:43
  1. Im now 27 and have a mallen streak where a right side parting would be.
Orangeballon · 19/04/2019 01:47

When you find three grey hairs amongst the black ones on your chin then that’s the time to worry!! 😛😆

Wincarnis · 19/04/2019 01:53

Mid 40’s. Redhead. Tried to cover grey with all the box dyes and henna mixtures you can think of. Could never get the right shade. Gave up (needed to look professional, not patchy goth) and now go to haidresser every 6 weeks or so.

motherheroic · 19/04/2019 01:54

Those who are interested in growing out their grey hair should check out grombre on Instagram.

motherheroic · 19/04/2019 01:55

They also have a Facebook page.

itsstillgood · 19/04/2019 03:38

First greys appeared early 20s. Would dye sometimes (was the age of young children so wasn't great at keeping up with it). Was because I didn't like the mousey brown though. 40 now and very streaky maybe close to 1/2 and 1/2. Stopped dyeing it completely years ago as the grey became noticeable as much prefer the grey (it's silvery) to natural colour.
