Found three grey hairs today.

Then stopped looking!

Wtf do I do?

(Dark hair... thinking blonde highlights?)

Ignored it. First white hairs at 19yo. Made a decision not to have 30+ yrs of hair dye in my future. Now (early 50s) I think my (mixed brown &) grey makes me look distinguished. And if it doesn't, I don't care.

My new workplace has many late middle age bottle blondes. I find them funny peculiar.

Pimmsypimms · 18/04/2019 22:57

Hmm, maybe 30ish when I found my first few, I was mousy so you couldn't really tell that much. I then decided to go darker around mid 30s and now you can really tell!
I use a semi permanent mid-brown so that the colour fades out through washing and doesn't block- grow out.

CSIblonde · 18/04/2019 22:57
  1. We go grey late on both sides of my family. I'll be blonde forever tho. The thought of leaving it grey just makes me think eugh & I get an instant image of Barbara Stanwyck looking like a corpse in the Thorn Birds: she's late 80's & declaring her love for sexy priest Ralph. (random I know).

Very first grey hair at 17

A few subtle streaks at 25. Started having it coloured at 33 Am now nearly 46 and its naturally grey almost white but i still have a brunette colour done. This time regrowth was showing after TWO WEEKS. Sad

Both parents went grey early so i didnt stand a chance.

thenightsky · 18/04/2019 23:02

60 last week and got a few greys at my temples if I scrape my hair back. Not sure what to do really. Bought a box dye that's meant to last 24 washes. I'll do it next week if I can be arsed then decide whether to go the permanent route if it looks OK.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 18/04/2019 23:04

I'm 55 and have just noticed more grey hairs than I'd like. No dying so far but the time is coming. My natural colour is too dark for my complexion so something a bit lightermay work.

Joys of mousey hair - dad is nearly 91 and not entirely grey/white yet. However, we suffer from fine hair. My children have inherited lovely hair from dh's side - but they will probably be fully grey before me.

helpconfused · 18/04/2019 23:06

It took years to try to get mine grey from blonde. Too much upkeep so I went back to highlights haha

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 18/04/2019 23:06

I did go to World Book Day as Gangsta Granny (teacher) and the grey wig really suited my colouring - not ready to embrace it in real life yet though.

lilabet2 · 18/04/2019 23:24

31 now, I noticed one or two in my late twenties and have just now noticed a few more popping up but still few enough to pluck and not to be noticed.

I was hoping to take after my Dad who is 64 and only just starting to go grey, my Mum start greying in her late 30s.

bk00 · 18/04/2019 23:25

@VoleClock hahahah that made me laugh!

ElGuardiandenoche · 18/04/2019 23:28

I started going grey at 16 and had a bit of a Mallen streak going on , which at that age I did not want so started to dye it my natural blonde. Over the years I’ve been every colour under the sun from blue to purple to red to pink to multi coloured. But when I was 47/48 I was getting fed up of spending £100s of pounds getting it done every month so decided to leave it and see what would happen and also let it grow. At 53 my hair is down to bum and white at the front and underneath the front and sides and all the rest is light to dark grey with some brown mixed in. I’m a bit of a calico cat 🐈

maddening · 18/04/2019 23:30

I Am 41 and recently found a grey hair - appears to be alone, going to wait and see for now

supermommyof4 · 18/04/2019 23:32

41 here too. Been slowly going grey since i was 21. I have far to many to count now! I too have very dark hair. I am fortunate i have a 17 year old daughter who dyes my hair for me and tints my eyebrows too. I can't really afford hairdressers every 4-6 weeks so i just buy a dye and my daughter does it for me, she worked in a hairdressers for a year and has picked up some tips.

NotFatTransslender · 18/04/2019 23:37

I went grey in my 20s, thyroid issues probably caused it.

I've dyed it black ever since, which is a PITA and I keep considering leaving it, I get about 2cm in and then freak out and dye it again!

Looking forward to the day I can leave it to grow out and not worry that I look older than my years. If I didn't have a DP (especially one who is younger than me!) I might leave it.

As a feminist, I recognise the unfairness of me having to try and keep up with the pretence that I'm not grey, while he gets a few odd ones and just looks more handsome and distinguished! But I don't want to look like his mum, so I'll keep dying it until he catches me up!

badlydrawnperson · 18/04/2019 23:38

Started at age 18. What have I "done about it" - nothing.

Sara107 · 18/04/2019 23:44

Early 20’s, a few greys which I used to yank out. After about a decade I realised that I was pulling out considerable amounts of hair and being grey is better than being bald / moth eaten looking! Late 40’s I’m about 60% - 70% grey. In some lights it looks sort of highlighted rather than dingy. My hairdresser always tells me I’m saving her a lot of work by not colouring it as my hair is super thick!

OopsIdidittentimes · 18/04/2019 23:44

40ish and nothing, I'm not fussed about my hair colour!

supermommyof4 · 18/04/2019 23:47

NotFatTransslender i have under active thyroid..i wonder if thats what happened to me!! Never occured to me. Id also really like to let mine grow but i am just not ready yet!!!

PickAChew · 18/04/2019 23:55

First greys (actually white) at 17.

Decided they made my hair look dull in my early 40s, so dyed for a few years. Stopped dying when there was enough white to make the dye look harsh and I was sick of my favourite colours not really suiting me, with dyed hair.

Almost 50 and still only about 25% white. All natural, now, including curly girl method, so regard them as natural silver highlights in my dark hair.

Tillygetsit · 18/04/2019 23:58

I have no idea. Started dying my hair at 17 and haven't stopped. God knows what colour it is now.

Hearhere · 19/04/2019 00:01

women with horrible, block colour, home dyed hair (usually black or dark brown) who look so much older because of it
oh thanks a bunch, i dye mine auburn and was quite pleased with it
am just deluding myself, do i look dreadful?

NaturatintGoldenChestnut · 19/04/2019 00:02

In my late 20s. I'm now nearly 50 and it's almost 100% grey but I dye it every month, what used to be my natural dark brown.

NaturatintGoldenChestnut · 19/04/2019 00:04

No. Believe me, I look a lot older with grey hair (I am in no way young looking) and cannot afford to spunk money on a professional hair colour but I look even fucking worse with grey hair.

iamH · 19/04/2019 00:11

First greys at 16 and have been colouring it dark brown until Feb this year when I decided to let it go.
I'm 47 and 7 weeks in.
I'm using spray root touch up at the moment and plan on using temporary products and headscarves until the roots are long enough to pixie cut all the colour out.
My natural colour seems to be white and my hair is in great condition since I stopped colouring it

EmeraldShamrock · 19/04/2019 00:20

I am 3, I am fair with highlights I have some but there not noticeable.
It is the ones on my left eyebrow that keep sprouting.
I am not ready to go gray gracefully yet.
