Found three grey hairs today.

Then stopped looking!

Wtf do I do?

(Dark hair... thinking blonde highlights?)

I’m 31 with no grey. I’m a redhead and my hairdresser said it’s unlikely I’ll go grey. Don’t know if there’s any truth behind that but so far so good

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/04/2019 21:23

Went blonde to blend in with the greys.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 18/04/2019 21:25

I started getting a few white hairs in my early 30s (mostly dark brown). In my mid 40s they’re getting more noticeable but I’ve never wanted to dye them. I like them.

Home77 · 18/04/2019 21:26

I also have a few (early 40s) and like the lush henna. more natural and conditions the hair unlike the box dyes. feels much better and kind of blends in the greys a bit.

CraftyGin · 18/04/2019 21:28

I first had my hair dyed just after having DC1 aged 27.

I’ve has salon dyes and home dyes ever since - 27 years.

Recently, I decided that I would have to bite the bullet and go white/grey.

I had the colour stripped out (hello, orange) and then redyed a much lighter shade, which I will then highlight. It will be a few more years before I think about going white again.

I do wish that I hadn’t started dyeing my hair back in 1992. I think those of my friends who left their hair made a much better choice.

Passthecake30 · 18/04/2019 21:29

Started coming through at 28. Up until about 32 I highlighted dark and light (naturally dark golden blonde/mouse) and now (45) use an all over base and highlights on the tzone. Roots get done by hairdresser every 6wks, I use root touch up in the middle of that.
Will probably have many many lighter highlights at one stage and let it go natural. But not while my sister, who is 21 years older than me, and my MIL, 35 years older than me, dye theirs Smile

Figgygal · 18/04/2019 21:31

I was 38 in January and have noticed a few pure white wiry bastards over last couple months

No idea what to do about it

scaryteacher · 18/04/2019 21:31

I statered going grey in my 20s. Dyed it for years, but recently the grey had begun to come back too rapidly, and was bored at spending lots of money to sort it. Bit the bullet and went grey; had an all over colour lots darker than I normally am, with grey highlights, then let it grow out from there. Haven't had it dyed in about 8 months, so saving loads, and it blends in as it gows out.

I have a young face for my age (53), so smooth face and grey hair. I love it. Less hassle and I save hundreds.

BasilTheGreat · 18/04/2019 21:32

Found my first grey when I was 19. Now I’m 51 and my hair is snow white. I dye it light blond.

CraftyGin · 18/04/2019 21:33

All my grey friends swear by having a good cut.

Wizotto · 18/04/2019 21:34

Early twenties. Initially used a colour gloss to cover up, then that stopped working so now have to dye the roots and have highlights so not so obvious as hair was originally dark brown. Now mostly grey Underneath and I am mid 40s. Expensive and time consuming but get to have some decent reading time every six weeks...

Stickerrocks · 18/04/2019 21:35

I'm late 40s and look like a badger. I've never done anything about it, except have a good haircut, but I'm very low maintenance and never wear any make up either.

Rememberallball · 18/04/2019 21:35

Found first grey hairs (yes, plural) at 17. Wasn’t totally surprised given DF was completely white by the time I was a toddler - and I let him know over the years that I totally blamed him for making me go grey so young!! By 20 I had started colouring my hair, initially using highlights and base tones then graduating to full head colour. Went through a phase in my late 30’s/early 40’a being auburn until meeting DH and deciding to go a much softer colour and now, approaching my late 40’s I am an ash blonde colour that is achieved with tint but no peroxide and allows around 4 months regrowth before it becomes obvious that I’m desperately in need of a colour top up (reminds self to book a hair appointment for sometime in next couple of weeks!!)

NobodyKnowsTiddlyPom · 18/04/2019 21:37

I am 41 and only have one or two grey hairs so far. I have very dark brown hair too, so I expected to have more by now. I do have a sort of Mallen streak patch by one temple that I've had since I was about 11, but that's actually reduced over the years so isn't that noticeable anymore.
I'm on some pretty hardcore autoimmune drugs and I think it affects my hair - I used to have almost straight hair but now it's quite curly. Pregnancy also affected my hair - it used to be a medium sort of brown but during my 2nd pregnancy it turned almost black and has never really gone back to its original colour.

moreismore · 18/04/2019 21:37

35 and have grey hairs appearing at a rate of knots-esp round my temples where it all just fell out post partum. Yay!
Can anyone recommend a box dye for mid brown hair?

BlooperReel · 18/04/2019 21:38

I had one white hair at 26
8 years later i have a grand total of 4.....seems to be a slow process for me. I pluck them out at the moment, will likely dye when i get into double figures. My mum is mid fifties and has no noticeable greys, my dad same age is fully grey, i seem to be leaning more to my mums genes for the grey!

Hotterthanahotthing · 18/04/2019 21:38

Not bothered about my head hair but really didn't like that my pubes went white in my mid 40s!

JustDanceAddict · 18/04/2019 21:38

Mid-40s. I have been getting it coloured (semi perm) in a salon for 2 years.

SallyWD · 18/04/2019 21:40

It's been slowly building up since my early 30s, probably had a few in my 20s. I henna my hair. No nasty chemicals.

Spacie · 18/04/2019 21:41

I'm 55 and I have no grey hairs. I am going bald instead.

Milkywayfan · 18/04/2019 21:42

Started going grey in mid 30s. Was very dark brunette - great advice from hairdresser was to put in blonde / caramel highlights gradually because means doesn’t matter about roots, and looks better as ageing means your overall colouring changes (and total brown can look unnatural). Now 50 and probably half grey but mix of blonde grey and still brown at the back. Lower upkeep - 3 months or more and can wait longer.

DoubtOfTheOrdinary · 18/04/2019 21:42

35 and probably 1% grey - enough to be quite noticeable, especially with my hair up. I just leave it as it is. I'm not particularly low-maintenance, I wear makeup and jewellery every day, but I like how the grey looks (on myself and on others) and I don't want to buy into or propagate the myth that youth = beauty.
I was recently a bridesmaid in a wedding party where the mother of the bride asked me to dye my hair because she (the mother) "really doesn't like grey hair in general" 😂 Obviously I ignored her!

HoldMyGirl · 18/04/2019 21:45

Mid 30s now and only have some at the temples, although I guess there might be more at the back that I can't see Confused

I've always had my hair coloured, so I just continue with my usual

Didiplanthis · 18/04/2019 21:50

First ones about 19. Started dyeing about 30 with box dyes gave up when pregnant to avoid chemicals and never went back. Mostly pale grey/white around front and 50-75% through the rest. I have light brown hair so left natural it was far less dramatic than when using box dyes and it growing out . It's more like it has just gradually faded. My hair is thick and super frizzy and never looks tidy so it was never my greatest feature !

timtam23 · 18/04/2019 21:52

Mid-40s and quite grey now. It's been a quick process over the last 5 years or so - since DC2 was a toddler. I keep it very short which i prefer. I was dark haired but didn't want highlights or to go blonde. Neither of those felt quite right for me. Sometimes I leave it natural and other times I home dye it with a semipermanent pastel lilac or pink, which I have had so many comments and compliments on. Hopefully it looks more modern than the old-fashioned "purple rinse". Because the colour fades gradually it doesn't show roots and it's really quick to do. Even my natural grey hair gets lots of compliments. It helps that grey hair seems to still be fashionable.
