I've just watched Tenable and the thing I thought it was called didn't make the top ten of names.

I'm honestly, genuinely shocked. I thought it was really common and would be the most obvious answer.

Remote
Telly thing.

BreconBeBuggered · 18/04/2019 16:52

The zap. Not the zapper. I have no memory of it being the zapper in my house.

TheCheeseAlarm · 18/04/2019 16:53

The button.

The first one we had as a child only had one button.

In our family a doofer is one of those flat wooden things a bit like a wooden spoon; called a doofer because it 'does for' all sorts of things.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/04/2019 16:53

The remote here. But mostly it's known by a hand gesture of pressing buttons on the remote. 'Where's the ?'

Also sometimes the thingy, and I do remember calling it the doofer years back.

goose1964 · 18/04/2019 16:53

Remote, and my 2 year old grandson uses the same word to mean change channel

DorisDances · 18/04/2019 16:54

The zapper of course!

MissMode · 18/04/2019 16:57

Tele text controller pad!

tardyheart · 18/04/2019 16:58

It's called 'The Wand of Power' in our house, & the Amazon fire remote is called 'The Little Wand of Power'

In the office for our conference TV we call it the Remote - it's universal surely.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 18/04/2019 16:58

Doofer at my parents house.

DS couldn't say remote when he was little so it became the more, or on occasion is Monsieur Le Remote. Because it's a man toy obvs. (Although now I have sole custody and it doesn't feel right)

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/04/2019 16:59

ThePants999 · 18/04/2019 17:04

Why would pinger be an obvious word for it, given it does not ping?

Aprillygirl · 18/04/2019 17:09

The fucking. I've nearly always located it before I've got to the actual name of the thing Blush

LuvSmallDogs · 18/04/2019 17:09

Telly box. It drives DH batty, so I started calling his controller and Xbox box too.
