What do you call the thing you use to change TV channels?

I've just watched Tenable and the thing I thought it was called didn't make the top ten of names.

I'm honestly, genuinely shocked. I thought it was really common and would be the most obvious answer.

Just from reading this thread I've realised I really don't like the word doofer!

Uh oh, this may out me as I’ve never met anyone else who calls it this... but growing up we always called it ‘The Didge’ in my family.

It was short for ‘Didgeridoodah’ but I have no idea where that came from.

Nowadays I normally just call it ‘the remote’ but might slip back into old habits if I’m watching TV with my parents or my siblings.

It's a flicker flicker. Not just a flicker, has to have both flickers to count in this house.
DP uses remote as well. He's boring.

We say pinger OP! And I INVENTED IT! Occasionally zapper, but mostly pinger. Obviously superior word.

Though I have sometimes heard the thing for unlocking car doors called a "blipper." Presumably from the noise the car makes.

At home we tend to call it the remote or controller. Growing up though my parents always called it the tele gun, still do.
