I've just watched Tenable and the thing I thought it was called didn't make the top ten of names.

I'm honestly, genuinely shocked. I thought it was really common and would be the most obvious answer.

Doofer, though as MillicentMartha said, as in a 'thingeemajig I can't remember the name of' rather than being anything to do with Noel Edmonds, not heard of that connection.

When we got together I decided that we needed to invent our own name (can't believe I am writing this) so we christened it the 'Jimmy'. Fast forward 30 years - DS actually recently mentioned his embarrassment when visiting school friends'homes and referring to the 'Jimmy' which he had grown up thinking was something everyone said

I never say remotes (plural) or control (singular) though

Remote in our house, but growing up it was always called the “ceefax”, in fact my parent’s still call it that. It was only when I got to uni and was living with other people that I realised it wasn’t the actual name for it!! “Pass me the ceefax please”... “The what??”
