...to not like Summer?

Just that really. I feel fat so the thought of having to ditch the oversized jumpers and boots makes me shudder. It's too bright, I've permanently got my sunnies on and everyone makes me feel like I should be "loving it"!!! I'm more of a cosy, candles and fairy lights type person and I literally feel down when the clocks change for Summer time!

My favourite time of year is Halloween as it's the run up to Christmas which I just love! Dark nights and cosy fires!!!!!

Help me enjoy the summer months - maybe I should just lose some weight??

Yanbu
I hate summer and the endless calls to get out and enjoy the sunshine.
I'm happiest at home, with my door closed snuggled with my DH and kids watching movies, eating crap and drinking wine.

Roussette · 19/04/2019 11:16

Well.... we're all different, that's for sure!

SileneOliveira · 19/04/2019 11:24

I want to ban the words "snuggle" and "cosy".

Roussette · 19/04/2019 11:42

Ditto Silene. Who wants to 'snuggle' up when the sun is shining, the birds are tweeting and there are lovely places to go in the warm sunshine.

SinglePringle · 19/04/2019 11:45

I’m hoping for a summer like last year - hotter the better.

Single layers of clothes
Sandals
Tanned skin
Outdoor parties
Smiling people (mainly!)
Rose wine
Salads and grilled meats and cheese
Sleeping under a single sheet
Being hot and feeling the warmth on my skin
Everyone moving slowly / being languid in the city and not minding.
Early morning light / light evenings

Lovely!!! I want a BOILING summer!

rainbowstardrops · 19/04/2019 11:54

I like the idea of summer but I hate the practicalities of it.

I shower and then I'm a sweaty mess five minutes later.

I'm bigger than I'd like to be and look hideous in everything.

My hair is fine and thin and I lose so much heat from my head that I end up looking like I've just had a shower when I haven't. Very, very embarrassing.

I can't sleep.

I can't breathe well (have asthma).

I don't mind so much when I'm not at work and when I don't have to do anything but other than that, it can bugger off!

MadImFurious · 19/04/2019 12:07

SinglePringle feeling the warmth on my skin
Ooh yes, that's the best bit. Not having to be swathed in layers just to be warm enough. Like the whole atmosphere is hugging you...
Loved the heatwave last year - felt like first proper summer for ages (I live in the north). Although some evening storms would have been nice to top up water levels (and I love summer storms too!)

I do understand people liking warm fires, fairy lights, hot choc, blankets etc., I like them too. But I like them because they're warm and cosy - in the summer everything is warm! Confused Grin

Holidayshopping · 19/04/2019 12:11

Nope-not me. I love it!!

Love the flowers, the dresses, sandals, the warmth of sun on my skin, light evenings, picnics, bbqs!

Bring it on!!!FlowersSmileCake

ilovesooty · 19/04/2019 14:10

At last I've found others who loathe the words snuggle and cosy too.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 19/04/2019 14:15

It's just the wasps. I hate, hate, hate the horrible, buzzy, hassly, stingy little fuckers. It stops me sitting outside, and for me picnics and scented products are a no-no from mid-July through to October. They affect my life to that extent: it's actually embarrassing

More daylight is fine by me; the more the better. I never have liked the lack of light in late autumn and winter, but I don't hate that season as much as I used to.

It's a case of weighing up the good against the bad. Have to admit I enjoyed the heat of last summer, wasps excepted.

zingally · 19/04/2019 14:19

I can more than understand why people dislike summer!

I DO like it, but I dislike my hayfever, which affects my eyes, making them incredibly irritated and light-sensitive, and usually worse in the late afternoon/early evening.
They are manageable ONLY if I take a daily antihistamine, which I try and remember to do between mid-April and mid-August.

Cloudyyy · 19/04/2019 14:24

You are wrong! Everything is better in the sunshine!!!!! ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Dollygirl2008 · 20/04/2019 10:56

And another reason not to like summer - the pressure of gardens.... and whilst on the subject, should I prune this lavender? And when I say prune, I mean "hack back to the stump" which is my interpretation of pruning....

Yes prune lavender, could you
wait till after it flowers?
I come alive in the summer. Just the smell of it. I am outside now in a thin dressing gown and I am actually WARM!!!

ketchupormayo · 20/04/2019 11:14

Agree 100%

feelingverylazytoday · 20/04/2019 11:31

OP I'm only saying this because you mentioned it in your OP, but losing weight does help.
I'm not a big fan of very hot weather (anything over 25° to me), especially when it's humid, but I do find it much better now I'm a normal weight. I don't get the rashes under my boobs or my belly flap anymore, I sweat a lot less, and it's just easier to move around without that extra weight to lug around.
Defenbaker actually this weather pattern is expected to last for the next 5 years, so another longish heatwave is on the cards.

Dollygirl2008 · 20/04/2019 12:19

I think you're right - if I could flick the switch in my head and get a stone and a half off, it would make the world of difference

And song is Ben get me started on CHAFFING THIGHS!!!!!ConfusedBlush

I'm one of those people who longs for summer when it's winter and then vice versa!
I like Spring and Autumn, but we don't tend to get the in between these days. It's either one extreme or the other (or pissing it down with rain!).

OutOntheTilez · 20/04/2019 12:53

I’m the unusual one, then. I love summer. I absolutely love Halloween and fall used to be my favorite season with the changing of the leaves and gloomy days. But once Halloween is over, I just feel depressed. I hate the cold, I hate shoveling a foot of snow every few weeks, and I have a hand condition that is very much affected by the cold and has gotten worse as I get older.

Although I have to say, this past winter in my area was the best one we’ve had in a long time. It didn’t snow much at all, so no back-breaking marathon shoveling sessions. If all winters were like this, I wouldn’t hate it as much.

To each her own. We like what we like. It'd be boring if everyone was the same.

OneStepSideways · 20/04/2019 12:59

I don't like English summers, they're damp and muggy and the weather's so unpredictable you have to lug a sweater around anyway. Then all the wasps, midges, flies, crowds.

I like wearing summer clothes though (loose fitting dresses over cropped leggings most of the time) as they're more colourful and easy to throw on. But waxing is a pain.

I love autumn, when the air's getting crispy but it's still sunny and warm!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 20/04/2019 13:06

Just take off the grey woody (old dried and dead looking flowers and stems) bits of that lavender and the green sprouting bits you’ve got will flourish in to the lush green and lavender flowers later in the summer.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 20/04/2019 13:12

I’ve lived all over Asia and always managed fine with the heat and humidity (universal aircon might have helped though 😂) but last year living in SE England was flipping awful. In fact we went to Hong Kong for a holiday and it was more bearable there!😀. Losing weight won’t necessarily help tbh. I’ve definitely got a bit of middle age spread but I still got horribly hot and sweaty when I was a size eight. I remember my DF having to take salt tablets years ago cos he lost so much through sweat when it was hot. Think I’ve got him to thank 🙁.

JacquesHammer · 20/04/2019 13:13

I’m not a fan of summer.

When it’s sunny it’s basically a long battle against burning.

Aria999 · 20/04/2019 19:38

Chafing thighs are awful. I always wear trousers or not very short shorts when it's hot.

JacquesHammer · 20/04/2019 19:43

The nth reason I dislike summer. Moor fires Sad
