...to not like Summer?

Dollygirl2008 · 18/04/2019 11:59

Just that really. I feel fat so the thought of having to ditch the oversized jumpers and boots makes me shudder. It's too bright, I've permanently got my sunnies on and everyone makes me feel like I should be "loving it"!!! I'm more of a cosy, candles and fairy lights type person and I literally feel down when the clocks change for Summer time!

My favourite time of year is Halloween as it's the run up to Christmas which I just love! Dark nights and cosy fires!!!!!

Help me enjoy the summer months - maybe I should just lose some weight??

It’s too cold here for 10 months of the year. Let the rest of us have a bit of warmth during the summer.

phoenixrosehere · 18/04/2019 16:06

Yanbu.

I’m not a fan of Summer either. I happily moved to the UK because summers were supposedly mild. Being hot makes me feel ill, add movement and it can make me feel faint. Where I grew up in the States, it would get hot enough to cook eggs on pavement but we had ac to cope inside to make them bearable. Last summer was horrible and most of the grass in our area was burnt. At least when it’s cold, you can put more layers on. Can’t take too many clothes off without being arrested when it’s hot.

I think the weather here (SE England) is pretty good compared to where I lived before (Midwest USA) Mild all-year round usually and no worries of flooding, tornadoes, blizzards, thunderstorms, etc..

DeadWife · 18/04/2019 16:08

Mmm yes that's just reminded me of the smell of freshly cut grass in the Summer and one summer in particular teaching DD to cartwheel down Hampstead Heath.

These threads always baffle me a bit, you can enjoy (the rare proper U.K.) Summers and also love snuggly winter nights inside, I do !

LucyInTheSkyy · 18/04/2019 16:09

I love Autumn, Winter & Spring.

Reasons I dislike summer are;
-Too bright
and wearing sunglasses requires me to wear my contact lenses- more faff, expensive. Sunglasses annoy me. Sweat builds up on my nose, causes spots under them.

-Sweating
The constant sweating! Feet, hands, back...not to mention in between boobs, armpits. Just never feel fresh.

-Hair removal
Endless

-Hat Head
Need a hat on long days out which causes more sweat and terrible itchy, sweaty head. Gives me the rage just thinking about it. Yuk.

-Hair
So annoying. Want it out of the way but not young enough to carry off a stylish up-do.

-Flying insects
Irritating, persistent, biting or stinging...eurgh

-Children & suncream
Enough said

-Uncomfortable nighttime's
Nobody sleeps well when it's hot. Give me a big thick cosy duvet to snuggle into every day of the week, please!!

Plus last year in the heatwave, I could not find a good time for outdoor exercise- it was just too hot and bright. I find it exhausting.

Roll on Autumn!

DeadWife · 18/04/2019 16:11

And summer thunderstorms coming after a dry spell ⛈ clearing the air.

I'll shut up now.

isseywithcats · 18/04/2019 16:14

OMG we get two days of nice weather and here come the i hate summer brigade, i love the summer i hate being cold and wet and hving to pay a fortune to heat the house

Teddy1970 · 18/04/2019 16:22

Nope, I don't like it either, in September you'll never see a woman's magazine cover saying "get your body raincoat ready in 2 weeks" Too much pressure to look good in the Summer....I like Autumn and Winter by a long shot.

LuvSmallDogs · 18/04/2019 16:26

As a pale ginge living in one of Britain’s skin cancer hotspots, I feel personally victimised by Summer.

Moorfields · 18/04/2019 16:27

I hate going to the beach and seeing everybody in their thong bikinis even though they don't have the body or right wax job done to wear one Nobody wears normal swim suits & bikinis, it's got to be a Brazilian thong style bikini on my bloody freezing beach. I don't want to see your arse crack thank you.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 18/04/2019 16:50

lol why some people take not liking summer so personally?

The80sweregreat · 18/04/2019 16:51

My bikini days ended around 1984/5! Not that I ever looked great in them.

Now I like the look of these ' skort' type affairs , all long legged all in ones. In fact, the more Lycra the better really.
I envy cool people on the beach that are not at all self conscious as they are so toned and lovely. I don't go to beaches very often.

Alwaysgrey · 18/04/2019 16:52

I find summer hard. I’m overweight which doesn’t help. It’s mostly the heat. Two kids with Sen who also get cranky really does not help.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 18/04/2019 17:33

And summer thunderstorms coming after a dry spell ⛈ clearing the air.

I've already said I don't mind summer but I've never understood this idea that a thunderstorm "clears the air". If it continues to be hot it just makes the air more humid and muggy.

DeadWife · 18/04/2019 17:40

Are you in the U.K. Formerly?

It's always fresher, less humid, more like the beginning of summer after a storm but I'm no meteorologist.

I'll have to google.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 18/04/2019 17:43

Yes I'm in the UK. I Have hair that reacts to humidity a la Monica from friends and a summer storm makes it unmanageable.

DeadWife · 18/04/2019 17:46

GreenOliveOrBlackOlive · 18/04/2019 17:57

I’m pale and could do with losing weight and avoid shorts like the plague with chunky milk bottle legs...but I love love the summer.

I forgive it completely for making my makeup slide off and my hair go wrong. A beautiful summer day that becomes a long warm summer evening is so heavenly. I just wish I was one of those lucky people who bronze and glow in it rather than go red and melt.

SequinsDress · 18/04/2019 19:41

I've found my people!

Fucking summer - too hot, too bright, cunting suncream... argh!
I do like summer evenings, once the sun pisses off... but hot sunny days are really not my cup of tea.

Give me a crisp cool autumn day, or a frosty winter morning any day!

Laiste · 18/04/2019 19:54

@RosaWaiting Threads dying now but i wanted to congratulate you on your perceptive skills. Genuinely. I DO live rurally, it's just fields and other little villages round here for 15 miles.

Winter is a depressing mixture of mud, floods and - increasingly - the risk of getting snowed in. Like last year. Silly panic buying in the village shop meaning there's not enough bloomin' bread or milk to go around whenever there's a single snowflake anywhere over England on the BBC morning weather map Hmm The frosty mornings are pretty, and the smell of wood smoke drifting about is nice, but everything sort of shuts down by 4.30 in the dark months and with no street lights it's actually pitch dark outside your house for ... what? 14 hours every day! Humph.

Summer here is just glorious though. Makes up for it totally. Hedge rows bursting with life, the smell of grass and hay in the air. Horses up the lane past the house all the time. Young animals for the DCs to see. The mist over the fields in the morning and the sun rises. The long evenings with just the cattle mooing. Bliss.

Bluntness100 · 18/04/2019 20:08

dancing on the grass? For some reason that's really tickled me!

Yes, have you not done it? A few glasses of wine, good friends, dancing bare foot in the grass to some great summer tunes, lots of laughter, it's fab.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 18/04/2019 23:15

I don't like Summer either. I'm a January baby, and my theory is that we're acclimatised to the season we're born in. I'm definitely much much happier in cold weather and find being hot unbearable.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 18/04/2019 23:40

Well my birthday is the middle of July and winter is my favourite season...

PhalangeReginaPhalange · 18/04/2019 23:42

Summer always makes me uneasy. I love autumn and winter

CupcakeDrama · 18/04/2019 23:50

Why are people getting offended that some people dont like summer? it might come as a surprised but we dont all love it. And since
most people do irl its good for some of us to hear from others that feel the same. If you love summer then good for you, no need to get annoyed.

Aria999 · 18/04/2019 23:56

Agree with pp get some nice summer clothes you like. (Crop pants and long tops if you're into leggings and big sweaters?) And maybe some shades and a big broad brimmed black cloth hat.
