...to not like Summer?

Dollygirl2008 · 18/04/2019 11:59

Just that really. I feel fat so the thought of having to ditch the oversized jumpers and boots makes me shudder. It's too bright, I've permanently got my sunnies on and everyone makes me feel like I should be "loving it"!!! I'm more of a cosy, candles and fairy lights type person and I literally feel down when the clocks change for Summer time!

My favourite time of year is Halloween as it's the run up to Christmas which I just love! Dark nights and cosy fires!!!!!

Help me enjoy the summer months - maybe I should just lose some weight??

I see the complaining has started really early this year.
We had all the delight about cosy snuggles and autumn a few months ago.
Some of us actually like summer. Bring it on.

SimonJT · 18/04/2019 14:27

I’m the opposite I love summer!

I’m Pakistani so no need for sun cream, days in the park playing football/sunbathing is one of my favourite ways to spend a day.

RosaWaiting · 18/04/2019 14:28

sorry, re weight, I wasn't clear

I have been a range of weights (!) but the thing that really bugs me is the whole London thing - urban heat effect or whatever it is.

when I was at my biggest, I did find it a pain but I don't think last summer's heatwave would have been any different really. It was the complete impossibility of anywhere to hide. hopefully that was a total oddity though, that summer.

Dahlietta · 18/04/2019 14:31

YANBU, but it's a bit early for one of these threads Grin

Theoldwoman · 18/04/2019 14:33

I hate summer! But I live in a very hot part of Australia. We are still having days upto 30 deg C and it's supposed to be autumn.

I want rain, hail, and cold.

weegiemum · 18/04/2019 14:34

I have disabilities which affect my mobility and heat helps. I also have depression which is much worse in the dark and cold.
I live in Scotland so it's never oppressively hot, and love the long evenings. Just hate the midges!

Treaclepie19 · 18/04/2019 14:37

I'm the same!
I feel really down because everyone else loves it and I just don't get it?
Then when its snowy and they're all moaning I'm happy as Larry.
Very confusing.

MotherofPearl · 18/04/2019 14:41

OP, I feel your pain.

There was a great thread on here last summer that got a lot of us summer haters through that dreadful heatwave. It really helps to be able to have a moan about it without other people piling in to say how we should all be grateful for the heat.

megletthesecond · 18/04/2019 14:42

Yabu I'm afraid.
Tbh with the exception of some of last summer we rarely even get decent warm weather.

Writersblock2 · 18/04/2019 14:44

Yup, hate it.

My general attitude for the entire summer is: you can all just fuck off.

BettyJune07 · 18/04/2019 14:48

I like this time of year, sunny days and a nice gentle breeze. But HATED the stifling heat of last summer, was horrendous and seemed to last for months.

Lozz22 · 18/04/2019 14:49

What a bunch of miserable gits you lot are!! 😂 light mornings and long balmy nights, bbq's in the garden, ice creams on the sea front what's not to love!! Don't particularly care for all the traffic that flocks to my seaside town but I can cope for a few month out of every year. Hate being cold and wet it makes me ratty

thismeansnothing · 18/04/2019 14:56

I've found my people. I hate summer. (Last year was the worst. Heatwave and morning sickness) I love autumn/winter. The short days, the cold but warming up with a brew when I get home. Crisp cold air. Not sweating to death just getting in n out the car or walking to school

ComedicCat · 18/04/2019 15:02

Yanbu, I much prefer winter too. I work nights and it's so much harder to sleep when it's hot and sunny...don't even get me started on gardening...

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 18/04/2019 15:08

I love summer but as I live on the coast the weekend traffic can be a pain in the arse. I stay away from the popular tourist beaches but there is still plenty of quite spots where you can snooze in the sun with a gentle cool breeze coming in off the sea.

Bluntness100 · 18/04/2019 15:10

I think the forecast for this weekend is quite warm, so it's causing some consternation. I hate the snow for example, so am usually on those threads saying oh no, with a load of people shouting yes!

I don't like feeling cold, wet, or driving in poor conditions like snow, ice heavy rain, so I don't like those months. I guess I can see the other side of it, if you dislike feeling hot, and feel uncomfortable in some way due to the heat, then you'd not like summer.

I guess it's about what is most comfortable for you.

Alsonification · 18/04/2019 15:13

Completely agree OP! I hate the summer. The heat makes me cranky & sweaty, the suns glare gives me headaches. I love winter. Absolutely love it. I love fires and dark nights and lashing rain and freezing cold. Of course it helps that I work from home so don’t need to commute in bad weather.

DwayneDibbly · 18/04/2019 15:16

Personally I love winter but suddenly realised last year, after losing some weight, that the reason I don't enjoy summer usually is because I feel self-conscious. Living in a tourist town doesn't help, as everyone seems perpetually dressed up, especially in the evenings when I'm slinking out of the house in curlers and a dressing gown to buy milk and everyone's in gorgeous summer clothes looking slender and tanned. Oh, also, I can't tan, I just burn.

Winter, I can hide.

Purpleartichoke · 18/04/2019 15:16

I hate summer

I hate the heat, the brightness, the bugs. I hate getting sunburnt. I hate sweating. I hate how people always want to have activities and gatherings outside.

Summer makes me feel like I’m being assaulted by the elements. I’m one of those ridiculously pale people who burns with a few minutes of sun exposure and is prone to heat exhaustion so it is actually true.

No. The perfect day is cool and overcast. That is the only time I want to be outdoors. That is the perfect day for a picnic, a party, or a nice walk.

Dollygirl2008 · 18/04/2019 15:20

I'm astounded by the amount of people agreeing with me! I honestly thought I'd get slated! I think it's also about the feeling that I have to be "doing something" in the Summer; that there is this expectation to go out and make the most of it! No! I love getting wrapped up under a blanket with my DD(10) and watching Christmas movies! BLISS!!!!!!

Governoress86 · 18/04/2019 15:30

I use to love summer but as I have got older I hate it. I have hayfever so feels like I have a permanent cold. It's too hot at night to sleep. I can't get much done as I sweat so much and the heat makes me feel fatigued.

Roll on autumn and winter and the darker evenings :)

churchthecat · 18/04/2019 15:38

Hate having to have painted toes, smooth heels, hair-free arms and legs, the right bra for my tops

I am here to liberate you Grin. You don't have to do any of these things. I bloody well don't. A few of my friends at first said "Ewww" at my hairly legs, then admitted they were jealous that I didn't have to do all of the grooming maintenance, now a few of them have joined the hairy club. Let it grow!

And i'm only a B cup so I guess i'm lucky I don't need much support as such, but i've fucked off bras with most outfits too. Fuck it all, I want to be comfortable. We've all got nipples, I don't know why it's such a taboo.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 18/04/2019 15:43

I quite like summer but I hate that there is the expectation that becasue it's sunny one must spend every second outside. Sometimes I like sitting inside, especially in the middle of the day when the sun is very high. It's actually healthier to be I side during this time too but Brits seem to think the sun, no matter what temperature, is something we must endure because we get so little of it.

RavenLG · 18/04/2019 15:53

I've found my people. The only thing I love about summer is going to festivals and even then when it's too hot I'm flustered and annoyed all the time. It's several months of hayfever, swapping between prescription sunnies and normal glasses (and constantly losing the pair that's not on my face), wasps, ants, sweating like a fat kid in a cake shop and chub rub,. Hate it.

To be fair, I probably wouldn't mind it if I could take the summer months off to lounge around in the garden not moving and not having to think about sweating at work, on the bus etc.

EscapeTheCastle · 18/04/2019 16:00

dancing on the grass?

For some reason that's really tickled me!
