To want to buy a second washing basket?

I have just removed freshly-washed pillowcases from my washing machine and put them in the same basket as the dirty washing came out of previously (think underpants, socks, etc). How vile!!! Envy.

I should have two washing baskets, shouldn't I?!

How dirty are your underpants, socks etc.Confused

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 10:39

Well, to put it bluntly, the NHS says a patient's clothing should be taken home and washed at 60C to kill germs. If I put my clean pillowcase in a basket that has been holding dirty underwear, I am effectively put my face on a pillowcase that has touched God knows what!

I’ve got a wicker style basket for dirty laundry and a plastic one for clean laundry wouldn’t share one basket for both personally the germs would make my ocd out of control

toomuchfaster · 17/04/2019 10:40

I only have one. It's for clean washing only. Clothes go from dirty clothes box to washing machine to washing basket to line, back to washing basket if dried outside and away!

recrudescence · 17/04/2019 10:41

I have two for convenience as it were but I’m not really bothered about clean washing touching a basket that once contained dirty laundry.

See this is what I am thinking.

I have a dirty washing basket, then my arms for clean. Not a great way to do it but I'm not putting my lovely clean washing into the dirty washing basket.
Maybe a second basket is the way to go.

ScreamScreamIceCream · 17/04/2019 10:42

I have laundry bags for my dirty laundry and the clean laundry out of the washing machine goes in a plastic laundry basket. I tend to just gather anything that is dry and carry it.

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 10:43

So I need either a laundry bag or a second basket. Good ideas, thanks. Now I just need to train my DH up to this when he does the washing!

That's because hospitals are breeding grounds for all kinds of nasty bugs due to the number of people residing and visiting there, not to mention people often being very ill. The dangers in your home from clothing are far, far less.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 17/04/2019 10:44

I have one in the bathroom- clothes get carried to washing machine, carried from washing machine to tumble dryer, from tumble dryer to sofa, where it’s folded and distributed to each persons bed to put away. No faces on manky feet here.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 17/04/2019 10:44

I've never thought about this but, now I have, I realise my dirty laundry never goes in the washing basket. Phew, I have solved a problem I don't have Grin

(Dirty laundry is transferred by hand (arms) from hamper to washing machine. Washed laundry goes to and from washing line in washing basket.)

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 10:45

The way I see it, if it didn't matter then we may as well put our underwear in the same wash as our tea-towels and we wouldn't do that would we?

I use blue IKEA blue bags. Dirty washing from hamper into IKEA blue bag, clean washing into another IKEA blue bag then onto line/tumble dryer. Very easy to then store the bags.

AnnieMay100 · 17/04/2019 10:49

Or anti bac the basket before filling with clean washing saves messing with two baskets but keeps it hygienic between loads

Another great idea. I have very little storage for extra baskets anyway.

Get more! I have 7, but I can give very good reasons for it if you want!

Easterbunnynearlyhere · 17/04/2019 10:53

We have 4 big plastic baskets.
Wipe out with antibac.

If you're washing at 60c, then why not?

Fuck me, no wonder every other kid has an allergy nowadays.

Are you for real op?

DrBuckles · 17/04/2019 10:55

I didn’t realise people used the same basket for everything! We have a big dirty basket that’s tall and narrower for dirty stuff that’s by the machine and then 4 smaller tub baskets (one for each person) for the clean stuff.

Nanny0gg · 17/04/2019 11:00

I take laundry out of the laundry bin, put it in basket to carry it to machine. Wash. Take laundry out of machine and put in basket to carry to line.
Take off line and put into ironing basket.

No-one's died yet.

EmeraldShamrock · 17/04/2019 11:01

I put everything in. Darks and lights with some zoflora in the wash.
Get a large bag for the clean washing.
Or bags for each room, I usually collect the washing each morning and carry it to the machine, ive an ikea fold box to separate any dirty darks from lites, another box for transport. They fold flat.
I would not put clean washing in a dirty basket.
