To want to buy a second washing basket?

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 10:35

I have just removed freshly-washed pillowcases from my washing machine and put them in the same basket as the dirty washing came out of previously (think underpants, socks, etc). How vile!!! Envy.

I should have two washing baskets, shouldn't I?!

PregnantSea · 17/04/2019 11:36

I have 2, it works well

TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 17/04/2019 11:36

You don’t need to wash normal clothes that haven’t been exposed to hospital bugs at 60 degrees. Most clothes wouldn’t stand up to repeated washing at that heat anyway.

TheGrapefulDread · 17/04/2019 11:38

I buy the huge bags from b and m, sports direct etc the ones at check out around a quid ish and sort the dirty laundry into loads. When a load is done the bag is folded and tucked down the side of the machine. If you have little loads sep. to either end of the bag : to save floor space. When the wash is done it gets to go in a rectangle hard plastic laundry basket. When it comes out the drier it is folder into the rectangle basket - less creases to iron out. My Husbands method makes me weep. I ask him not to do my clothes - washing his own he can do what he likes - except put dirty clothes in the plastic basket. If I have been away I always wipe the plastic basket before I use it again.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 17/04/2019 11:38

I don't even have a basket
Dirty stuff goes into the lidded bin next to washing machine. Once washed it goes straight on washing line, which is about 5ft from machine, or tumbled. Then folded and carried upstairs.

If doing a load of bedding or extra washing I just use the baby bath as a laundry basket. Bath is also used as a ball pit, for water play, a doll's cot, a pretend boat etc etc

I wash underwear with tea towels ShockGrin

Alicatz66 · 17/04/2019 11:39

I've got 4 ... treat yourself !!!

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/04/2019 11:39

In my working life I come across tacky mats, UV sterilisation, various levels of coveralls and air showers to maintain clean environments in the semi conductor industry or to stop the spread of radioactive or other undesirable contamination.

I'm thinking I could make a fortune by selling all this sort of stuff to dirt fearing Mumsnetters battling to maintain clean room level hygiene standards in their homes.

KnittingSister · 17/04/2019 11:41

Our dirty stuff goes in the laundry basket upstairs and is transferred to the washing machine in the red basket. When clean, the laundry is taken out of the machine and put into the blue basket. Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/04/2019 11:41

We have 2 washing baskets that are used interchangably for clean and dirty clothes. I have never cleaned a washing basket in my life. DP and I are just about never ill, so it's not doing us any harm.

Megan2018 · 17/04/2019 11:43

We have 4 - but nothing to do with germs!

We tend to do all the washing one day a week due to work, so each load is in a basket and they go in one after another.

When they are not used for washing the cats like them as beds!

Innernutshell · 17/04/2019 11:57

Get a fabric bag and put it in the wash with the dirty clothes - then its all clean.

Ijumpedtheshark · 17/04/2019 12:04

I have 6 but then I never put washing away (lazy).

PCohle · 17/04/2019 12:07

With DC these is possibly poo, urine drips, snots, food, coughs, dirt from playing in the stress. Yes IMO 2 baskets are necessary.

Surely if your washing basket is filled with all sorts of filth like this you just give it a clean though?

Why would you leave it sitting around your house like that? And once it's cleaned what's the problem with putting clean clothes in it?

DramaAlpaca · 17/04/2019 12:08

I have two large ones & three small ones. Nothing to do with hygiene, I just have tons of laundry.

WeeDangerousSpike · 17/04/2019 12:17

The way I see it, if it didn't matter then we may as well put our underwear in the same wash as our tea-towels and we wouldn't do that would we?

Oh God! Read this and thought - back away, these are not your people!

I have about a million washing baskets - the pop up quid ones from poundland. But that's because I'm slovenly and rarely put the laundry away - they're basically clothes storage Blush

OP, my one naice laundry basket is woven and has a fabric liner that ties on with prissy little bows if I was as concerned as you seem to be I would put the liner in with each wash and dry it then it would be all clean each time.

Or you could just chill and have a Wine

No wonder the planet is fucking dying and antibiotic resistance is peaking.
Fuck me, no wonder every other kid has an allergy nowadays.

This.

People are so terrified of a slight speck of dirt these days we're not building up any sort of tolerance or resistance. Unless your
immunocompromised or living in a hospital this is ridiculous.

managedmis · 17/04/2019 12:18

Yes. YANBU

Easterbunnynearlyhere · 17/04/2019 12:21

tmi alert
Where does the spunk rag go?!

Lowena · 17/04/2019 12:25

I wash dirty pants with other stuff...tea towels included...and at 40 degrees as well. Still alive so far!

I also tip all the laundry out all over the bedroom floors when i am sorting it into piles.

The only time when i have wiped the laundry basket clean is when one of the dc has vomity or pooey clothes and it may have come into contact with the basket

EngagedAgain · 17/04/2019 12:25

I use the same basket. I store dirty washing in it then have a sort through said items, leave the rest on the floor until I've dealt with the clean stuff, then put the rest of the dirty washing back in the basket. Never really thought about it. Surely it's no worse than say, being out all day, then going to bed without washing your hair.😬

e1y1 · 17/04/2019 12:30

God yes you do.

I have 4. Never use a dirty washing basket to transport clean clothing.

If I've ever had to use a "clean" basket for dirty, then have wiped it down with cleaner before going back to using for clean.

Applesbananaspears · 17/04/2019 12:34

The way I see it, if it didn't matter then we may as well put our underwear in the same wash as our tea-towels and we wouldn't do that would we?

Erm, I do. I’m still alive

Farmerswifey12 · 17/04/2019 12:40

I thought everyone had 2 baskets Confused We've got laundry basket in bathroom for everyone's dirty clothes. Then a white plastic type one for clean stuff

On another note though, I pretty much fling anything and everything in washing machine together (depending on colours obviously)

AngelinaNeurosurgeon · 17/04/2019 12:40

I place my fecalised and vomitised children in the machine, still in their clothes, and wash the lot on a 90 degree wash. Inthe meantime I spray the entire house with undiluted zoflora and bleach. My children do not go outside. Any parent who does less is filthy and should be reported to social services.

IncrediblySadToo · 17/04/2019 12:42

Dirty clothes go in the ‘hamper’, get sorted and carried from there to the machine. They go in a laundry bag to the outside line/inside airer (no tumble drier), when dry they’re folded and put into the laundry basket then put straight away.

Tea towels only get washed with tea towels.
