To want to buy a second washing basket?

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 10:35

I have just removed freshly-washed pillowcases from my washing machine and put them in the same basket as the dirty washing came out of previously (think underpants, socks, etc). How vile!!! Envy.

I should have two washing baskets, shouldn't I?!

I have 4 or 5, but that's because I hate putting washing away, so it just sits in a basket until it's close enough to empty and I need one...

Do people really anti-bac out a plastic laundry basket?

I mean, if something happens and the washing is soaked in wee or something, then sure, I can see you'd want to give it a wipe, but if it's just worn clothes, then what possible reason is there for it?

Maryann1975 · 17/04/2019 13:45

Dirty washing in the wicker baskets and ‘stored’ there until I’m ready to put on a wash. I then sort it into a plastic basket and bring it downstairs into the awashing machine. Once it’s done it goes back in to that basket and transferred to the tumble dryer or on to the washing line, once ray back in the basket and stored there until I have time to sort it. I have 4 of these plastic washing baskets and they are all used for dirty and clean washing. I occasionally think about how dirty clothes go in the same basket as clean, but I can’t get obsessed about it- my brain is to full of actual real issues this doesn’t really worry me. (I also don’t wash my towel after using it or wash bedding every other day either).

Squigglesworth · 17/04/2019 13:45

...Of course, I also let my dogs hang out in the bed, so by some people's reckoning, I'm probably going to die of dog-germs any day now... Grin

TheSerenDipitY · 17/04/2019 13:47

hell if ya lived at my house you would get over it in a hurry... i did... its taken some time to not have an anxiety attack over dirty and dirty and dirty stuff all being in the same basket, same machine, same time, but i got there in the end
my husband comes home covered in cow shit, sometimes he has an accidental cow shit shower, once it was a unavoidable and unintended swim in the cow shit effluent pond, when you get to wash that you learn that your rather clean knickers and your tea towels are ok in the same wash, except the towels my mum got me for xmas as they put fluff on everything!!!

butteryellow · 17/04/2019 13:48

just wipe the basket with a clean, moist kitchen cloth. It is not that difficult. No reason to use a lot of plastic or chemicals.

To be fair, if germs are your boggle, that's going to do absolutely nothing to get rid of them...

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 13:48

OP when moving your laundry about, you are using your hands, the filthy things at the end of your arms

I definitely wash my hands after loading in dirty washing. I usually put washing on before preparing my breakfast. I certainly wouldn't touch my toast after touching DH's dirty underpants!!! Envy

The thought of underwear that has been sat nicely tucked in bumcracks, ballsacks and fanjos, swirling around with them on a 40 wash (which is only 3 degrees above body temperature so the perfect hosting ground for said bacteria) is more than I can bear to think about

THIS ^^

I have a trolley thing for dirty washing three hanging containers, bit like shopping trolley bags, I organise as I put stuff in, dark colours, light colours, household stuff. Lift out bag to load machine, no basket required. Takes up more space than a laundry basket but I love it. Have basket for clean clothes.

LittleElle · 17/04/2019 13:52

Imagine not being able to head to Wilkos to buy a new washing basket without asking the Internet

CheshireChat · 17/04/2019 13:53

I wash underwear separate as it's easier to make sure we don't run out. Plus, it keeps them separate so easier to sort.

The Japanese only use cold water to wash clothes Shock.

ivykaty44 · 17/04/2019 13:53

I never realised people only had one washing basket 🧺
I have 4 washing baskets but we don’t use them for dirty clothing - which is carried in the laundry bags from bedrooms and placed directly in washing machine, or just carried and then hands washed.

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 13:53

You might be washing at 60°C because you've heard it kills bacteria. The temperature on its own doesn't. Some bacterial spores and viruses are resistant to washing at 60°C. You need to combine your 60°C wash with a good detergent to blast that bacteria

This is too much now!

Does your husband not wipe his arse? Seriously what are you people doing in your knickers?

LumpyPillow · 17/04/2019 13:54

Treat yourself! I have a seperate one to my partner.

RHTawneyonabus · 17/04/2019 13:55

Seriously who has time to worry this much about what clean/dirty laundry mayor may not have touched!

I find a laundry basket takes up too much space so I have a couple of heavy duty folding crates from Robert Dyas that do the job, I can fit three stacked alongside my washing machine with ease.

Captaindobbin · 17/04/2019 13:57

Mumsnet is an eye opener sometimes. The things people find to worry about Grin

Even I would have to draw the line at 90C - my clothes wouldn't take it. Or my electricity bill!!! Shock

I have sex with my oh. And roll over and go to sleep after.

Think of the germs.

Blow jobs too.

😱

No more sex for him then.

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 14:09

I have sex with my oh. And roll over and go to sleep after

Lol, so do I (with my own OH, not yours I mean Grin ) but I wouldn't want his underpants washed with the tea-towels at a low temperature - he might as well be wiping his willy on the tea-towels!

OP posts:
Whodafeck · 17/04/2019 14:10

What germs do you think won’t be killed by a wash?

I mean, you wash all your clothes together anyway?

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 14:12

Clothes are one thing, but tea-towels are touching the cutlery and plates I will be eating off.

OP posts:
Whodafeck · 17/04/2019 14:13

Surely you should be air drying the dishes and cutlery?

Eliza9919 · 17/04/2019 14:14

I certainly wouldn't touch my toast after touching DH's dirty underpants!!!

How dirty is your DH then OP? Doesn't he shower every day? Shock

Whodafeck · 17/04/2019 14:16

Maybe teach your DH to wipe his arse?

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 14:17

He does shower every day and wears clean underwear, but still...
