To want to buy a second washing basket?

I have just removed freshly-washed pillowcases from my washing machine and put them in the same basket as the dirty washing came out of previously (think underpants, socks, etc). How vile!!! Envy.

I should have two washing baskets, shouldn't I?!

Think of the bacteria soup in the heat of the tumble drier vs hanging outside.

Why does the dirty laundry even have to go into a basket? I keep mine in a 'hamper'/whatever where we all put dirty clothes. Sort them on the floor and scoop them in my arms and I put them straight in the washing machine.
And they go into Ikea shopping bags when dry. Ikea bags fold up small.

We have 3 laundry hampers and 4 baskets for clean - 2 for wet/stuff to go straight away and 2 for my ironing fairy. We fill one up and send to mil and then start on the second one. Fill and swap.

I keep my dirty clothes in a big ottoman type of affair with a lid upstairs so I need to transfer the dirty clothes into a basket for carrying downstairs.

I have four.

  • one for taking wet, clean washing out of the machine
  • the main one all the dirty things go in
  • a personal one where delicate things go (to make sure they don't end up ruined)
  • a small one in my dressing room where things that have been worn lightly but aren't dirty enough to be washed go (is that weird?)

Dear God - only on Mumsnet. I can’t believe how paranoid and I’ll-informed people are about germs. Uttely ridiculous.

You're not being unreasonable at all OP! We have three tall "bins" for dirty washing (whites, darks, colours) all white plastic and four navy blue baskets (one per person in the house). Clothes go from dirty basket to machine, over to the dryer or on the line (we have some foldable/pop up fabric baskets for that too come to think of it!), then are folded and put into the correct person's basket for them to put away!

I'm thinking now of the washing being darked on outside. Pretty sure its being in Australia cancels out the curse. :o

All of this reminds me of the carefully graded wash rags that Alan Bennett's mum had for cleaning, that could never be mixed, like some cleaning version of a kosher kitchen. Most were old underpants, so guessing unacceptable to MNers. And rabbis. Now I think of it, his dad was a butcher.:o

It's the spider willies I'd worry about with drying clothing outdoors!
