My brother visited today and whilst flicking through my Netflix noticed that I had Joan Rivers on my to watch list. This led to a discussion on the lack of modern high profile/good female comedians about today. He basically said they were few and far between. I could only think of Jo Brand at the time but there must be more?? I was pissed off after he visited and wanted to forward some links of funny females but I can’t find many.....

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I totally agree! Can't believe she hadn't been mentioned earlier in the thread. Maybe it's because she's no longer with us? But neither is Joan Rivers in the OP!

Rachel Bloom hasn’t been mentioned

She’s been on SNL but also wrote Crazy Ex Girlfriend which is a very funny Fleabag type of comedy....but a musical

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 14/04/2019 20:12

Oh yeah crazy ex girlfriend is so good! I felt a bit emotional at the last episode, and the concert special.

All women talk about vaginas as much as all men talk about mother In laws. It's such a stupid comment to make as though women are all the same. There's comedians of all types and styles no matter their sex.
Any topic can be funny if it's the right joke.
Can't believe women are writing this sexist nonsense.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 14/04/2019 20:20

itsbetterthanabox I agree, and there are plenty of male comedians who go on about their porn use and few things make me switch off faster. But of course it’s apparently most women joking about their vaginas (I can’t think of any tbh) that are offensive

IdentifyasTired · 14/04/2019 20:26

I really like a lot of the women on SNL (American programme). Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong. Also love love love Melissa McCarthy, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Oh and Sarah Silverman.
There are loads and loads of really funny women.

Eggproducer · 14/04/2019 21:31

Also somehow wank jokes are fine because we're all supposed to identify with the male experience, but the minute a female comic mentions periods, vaginas or tits (y'know, like 51% of the population has), they are being too female and making "rank vag" jokes.

Because heaven forfend that it's reasonable to expect men to use some empathy to find something female funny, the same way women do with wank/cock/ball jokes.

FlibbertyGiblets · 14/04/2019 21:48

Adding Helen Arney [hearteyes].

Cherylshaw · 18/04/2019 19:02

@Eggproducer
I won't listen to any male comedian who makes rank dick jokes but i can't recall in any of the male comedians i have watched talking about wanking etc but then i wouldn't watch as i don't find it funny but most of the women comedians i have saw talk about periods and vag's and it's just not funny imo.

Iliza Shlesinger

She has several specials on Netflix and I have also seen her live in the UK twice last year

Please someone else tell me they like her! Any time I mention her, I don’t think anyone has ever known who she is!

I also like Sarah Millican
