My brother visited today and whilst flicking through my Netflix noticed that I had Joan Rivers on my to watch list. This led to a discussion on the lack of modern high profile/good female comedians about today. He basically said they were few and far between. I could only think of Jo Brand at the time but there must be more?? I was pissed off after he visited and wanted to forward some links of funny females but I can’t find many.....

Don't like any of them (I don't see Sandi Toksvig as a comedian but as a writer and broadcaster who can be very funny), but I am assuming that he doesn't watch any of the panel shows on TV - otherwise he'd know there are plenty even if the majority of their acts seem to be based around how stupid they are and isn't it funny, which really pisses me off

“Don't like any of them”

What, not one single woman comedian?

BertrandRussell · 14/04/2019 15:29

Susie Ruffle. Susan Calman.

SerenDippitty · 14/04/2019 15:32

Still miss Linda Smith.

riotlady · 14/04/2019 15:33

Ali Wong and Iliza Schlesinger both have some good comedy specials on Netflix.

grannieanne · 14/04/2019 15:33

Luisa Omielan, gifted, thought provoking and performs with her enormous dog, Bernie.

Jess Thom, laughed till I wet myself, Jess has Tourettes and her show is the funniest, most heart warming show..

Zoe Lyons... funny, funny lady

FourEyesGood · 14/04/2019 15:40

Sara Pascoe
Bridget Christie
Lots of others that have already been mentioned several times on the thread.

Christ, what a misogynistic twat.

itsbetterthanabox · 14/04/2019 15:41

Loads of brilliant comedians already named.
A few more-
Lou Sanders, Sarah Kendall, Grainne Maguire, lazy Susan, Felicity Ward, Fern Brady, Ava Videl.

BloomsButtons · 14/04/2019 15:42

Susan Calman.

Cannot stand Katherine Ryan.

Aquilla · 14/04/2019 15:43

Sarah Milligan I can still raise a chuckle to but find most of the others pretty dire these days to be honest. Same with the men...

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/04/2019 15:45

Don't like any of them

All comedians or just female ones? There's a word for that.

Shantotto · 14/04/2019 15:56

Hannah Gadsby. Has an amazing special on Netflix l.

WingBingo · 14/04/2019 16:00

Get him to watch Fleabag!

spongedog · 14/04/2019 16:01

Zoe Lyons; Sara Pascoe; Sarah Millican

Whatthefunk · 14/04/2019 16:03

The Ellen DeGeneres live show, on Netflix is really good

Badbilly · 14/04/2019 16:04

I agree, and think there is just a bit of a lull in any good comedians at the moment, of either sex, but I suppose that is purely down to one's personal taste.

I do like Sarah Millican though.

Hoppinggreen · 14/04/2019 16:05

Rachel Parish is my current favourite

damnthatoneistakenagain · 14/04/2019 16:06

These days ? I would say Aisling Bea, Kath Ryan, and obviously Sarah Millican. (Sarah is the funniest IMO.)

damnthatoneistakenagain · 14/04/2019 16:08

Also like Sandi Toksvig and Ellen DeGeneres. But they are more hosts/comperes really. But yeah, they are genial and funny. Smile

PJLove80 · 14/04/2019 16:10

Love Sarah Millican - she is hilarious and a thoroughly lovely lady as well

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 14/04/2019 16:13

Ellie Taylor

MitziK · 14/04/2019 16:14

Are people trying to suggest something here?

I don't like comedians. The post referred to female comedians/there not being any. There are. Anybody who watches TV panel shows will see at least one in every single show, sometimes more, so would be wrong to say there aren't any. If they listened to any, they'd hear them, but not as many people listen to radio as watch TV.

There's a word for people who are hoping to take offence by reading more into a comment than is meant by it, too.

Butterymuffin · 14/04/2019 16:16

Many mentioned above, plus Ellie Taylor who does the Mash Report but also stand up. It's really not hard to find good female comedians around.

MitziK · 14/04/2019 16:17

Interesting how the two PPs who mentioned it happen to have User Names that make their existence conditional and centred around that of a man? I wonder if there's a word for that?

SwayingInTime · 14/04/2019 16:19

Go see kiri Pritchard MacLean who is touring at the moment, belly laughes and touching / thought provoking work on relationships. Really good.
