help settle a debate - Alpha male misogynist type men

BlueishHueOfBlue · 14/04/2019 12:14

to ask you help settle an argument.

If you know any Alpha male misogynist type men (misogynist maybe unfair but using it for short hand) - very self confident men who tend to be high achievers, high earners and take no prisoners, what hobbies the ones you know do and where would you find them socially?

I have a theory that there is something that almost all these men do without exception... my friend disagrees. I don't want to skew my (highly scientific!) survey in advance...

Anything that doesn't involve team work

Strange how true that is. Lot of these high achiever men are also sociopaths.

Leatherflamingle · 14/04/2019 12:36

Camping and campervan related activities.
But the ensuing holiday is just an extension of their controlling tendencies and the whole thing is a miserable existence for anyone that has to endure a week in a bus with a boring bastard controlling where you go/ how you maximise space/ how you clean it/how you sleep/breathe/ shit etc

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 14/04/2019 12:38

Cycling! They're all at it now.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 14/04/2019 12:39

I don’t know any men like this who are actually successful. I don’t think you can be anymore (baring in mind that I can quote young so most men I know are under 50).

Leatherflamingle · 14/04/2019 12:39

No. Or high earners or successful.

Pa1oma · 14/04/2019 12:40

Oh yes and camping - how could I forget that one.

I’m not sure why you conflate “Alpha / high-achieving” with “misogynist” though OP. That’s very peculiar thinking. If a man is a misogynist, it’s irrelevant whether he’s high-achieving or not, surely? Some if the greatest misogynists might be unemployed couch potatoes, watching porn all day.

DingDongDenny · 14/04/2019 12:41

Used to be golf - so the older ones it still is. Younger ones it's either cycling - running marathons or extreme fitness, like cross-fit

As someone wisely said, anything that isn't a team sport

Mominatrix · 14/04/2019 12:41

I know many alpha male types and the only thing they seem to have in common is ambition and monetary success. They have a variety of hobbies, none common to all, which they take seriously.

If I had to choose one thing they all do, fine wine collecting and eating at the top restaurants worldwide is the only thing they all do.

Leatherflamingle · 14/04/2019 12:41

I have see the over fifty version too.
Usually they choose activities that involve as little team work as possible.
(Build a grand designs house in rural isolation anyone?)
Purely because they can’t sustain normal relationships.

DingDongDenny · 14/04/2019 12:41

I think for misogyny read arrogant and superior - to everyone, but especially women

OldAndWornOut · 14/04/2019 12:43

Cocaine

YouLikeTheBadOnesToo · 14/04/2019 12:44

I think of 3 typical ‘alpha males’ I know well (although I wouldn’t call any of them misogynistic).
One is in the TA
One volunteers for local mountain rescue and is big into hiking
One is a youth army leader for cadets (not sure what it’s actually called!)

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 14/04/2019 12:47

OP - are you trying to 'bag' one yourself ?

They are pretty high maintenance!!

cuppycakey · 14/04/2019 12:48

Cocaine

princeps · 14/04/2019 12:49

I don't think many of the cycling type are super bright. The cycling/rugby/pints/gym type is usually something like an electrician or a plumber.

starzig · 14/04/2019 12:50

Working.

bigKiteFlying · 14/04/2019 12:50

There were a few in my family parents generation - mainly golf or squash.

I'm not sure now - cycling, rock climbing and sailing but I don't know many though ones I do about my age 40 ish do these.

Snuffalo · 14/04/2019 12:51

@Pa1oma why are you (still) married to a misogynist?

Putthatlampshadeonyourhead · 14/04/2019 12:52

@Snuffalo she didnt say she was

VladmirsPoutine · 14/04/2019 12:52

One tried to pick me up in a hotel lobby earlier this year Confused, not sure what he thought I was. He was quite displeased to learn I was only waiting for a friend and didn't have any services to offer Grin

The ones I know in their 30s = cycling. Older ones usually golf.

Fairenuff · 14/04/2019 12:53

Grin

OP has a spreadsheet going and is looking up clubs in her local area.

ArabellaDoreenFig · 14/04/2019 12:53

I wouldn’t agree with your description of ‘alpha male’, you are describing the kind of guy who wishes he was an ‘alpha’ - these guys are all well and confident up until they genuinely have to show some balls - and then watch them run away from any real life danger!
They see themselves as the main event - genuine ‘alpha’ types (male and female) see themselves as the leader of a pack - there is an distinct difference between looking out for yourself and looking out for your ‘pack’ .

JaneEyre07 · 14/04/2019 12:53

Golf.

AfterSchoolWorry · 14/04/2019 12:53

Golf.

princeps · 14/04/2019 12:53

The women married to this sort are often pretty annoying too
