To think that the Brexit Party is the most exciting thing to happen in British politics in years

1000 candidates have applied for 73 seats, nearly a million pounds raised with small donations, buzz and brexitement on the ether and the sense that the 2 party system may be over for good....at last some good news for Brexiteers.

Viva la Revolucion!

Fuck me. Just when I thought the pantomime couldn't get any funnier.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 12/04/2019 22:22

I’ll be voting for any candidate who states that and I hope millions of others do too

This is the problem with our politics a the moment...well for a long time

I vote based on what I believe a party will do for the country, NHS, education, welfare etc

Not on one point

jasjas1973 · 12/04/2019 22:25

Yes normally i would too but these EP elections are going to be a re-run on the 2016 vote,
if Leave fail to make significant gains & remain parties do v well, then the case for Brexit being the Will of the People , collapses.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 12/04/2019 22:27

Apparently the 2017 were a rerun of the referendum as well

That was said after we all voted and not before so I suppose that's different Grin

KennDodd · 12/04/2019 22:28

Actually I think politics has been far too exciting over the last few years, I've had enough, I want to go back to boring politics before I'd ever heard the word Brexit.

TalkinPaece · 12/04/2019 22:28

Tolles
Change have the slight problem that they do not appear to be a registered party yet

JocelynBell1 · 12/04/2019 22:31

Not really, OP. Another single-issue party, obsessed with the nasty old EU, talking the same tired old nonsense, most of which which has been shown to be false again and again. Dull.

The Brexit Party will keep boring old issues such as NHS, education, poverty, etc. off the agenda.

SinkGirl · 12/04/2019 22:33

Okay, I’m really starting to lose my patience with this shit now.

How much time, money, energy and oxygen are we supposed to throw at this shambles before the government admit it’s not possible and is not going to happen? All that money that could have been spent on the NHS, education, police / emergency services, SEN provision, support for the disabled, etc? Oh, your gran fell down and broke her hip and had to wait 13 hours on cold concrete for an ambulance? Never mind - we are leaving the EU, hooray!

More months of waffle followed by a lack of resolution, and this will continue until the tories grow a spine and admit that it cannot be done without fucking the country over. That’s all there is to it. The first referendum should never have happened, and they should be taking the result of that advisory referendum and saying “nope, this won’t work, sorry”.

Then we can get back to dealing with the problems we already had before we created thousands more for no forking reason.

notangelinajolie · 12/04/2019 22:35

Only if the parties have a pro remain or leave manifesto.

Krimpy · 12/04/2019 22:35

Proportional Representation would be an exciting thing to happen to British politics. That would give me a proper knicker tingle. Bollock faced Farage's venture, not so much.

HarryElephante · 12/04/2019 22:38

1000 candidates? Love to see the dribbling state of that lot.

LarkDescending · 12/04/2019 22:39

Farage seems to be a wee bit sensitive on the funding arrangements. All those pesky questions!

alittlesnow · 12/04/2019 22:40

Are they not a bit late to the party? Confused

FentonForChristsakeFenton · 12/04/2019 22:43

Brexit... Nigel’s... Party
Co-incidence?!

Superb observation earlier in the thread that they will split UKIP’s voters. That is something to celebrate!

The fact that someone got in ahead of them to register the website shows how utterly amateurish they are.

Just another desperate attempt by Farage to get himself elected. Oh the irony that the only place he could get elected to is the place he so wholeheartedly hates. He’s an absolute turd of a man.

alittlesnow · 12/04/2019 22:46

Exciting???!! if you like racist bigoted women hating rich toffs gaining power.

Like the conservatives?

And Labour.

And the rest of them.

They are all as bad as each other!

Melroses · 12/04/2019 22:47

Are they not a bit late to the party?

The tents have been packed away on College Green. All gone away.

alittlesnow · 12/04/2019 22:48

@Circeplease

No, there have been swivel-eyed loons on the fringe for years; I don't really care how they label themselves.

Yep. On the far left, as well as on the far right.

TrojanWhore · 12/04/2019 22:49

'That was said after we all voted and not before so I suppose that's different'

Well, as next to no-one stood on a 'remain' platform, a 'leave' win in 2017 was a foregone conclusion.

'Proportional Representation would be an exciting thing to happen to British politics'

Yes, if you are a BNP supporter (wouid have hard 12 seats in 2015) - Farage too much of a safety wet lefty for you, krimpy ?

Windowsareforcheaters · 12/04/2019 22:52

PR let's us see who the fruit cakes are on the left and right.

Expose them, give them the seats they are entitled to and then watch them implode. UKIP is a perfect example.

Don't be scared of them shine a big light on them. Who is funding this new party?

RoseAndRose · 12/04/2019 22:53

"Superb observation earlier in the thread that they will split UKIP’s voters. That is something to celebrate!"

Doubt it - do you really think any commentators will care about which party was voted for when assessing the strength of the 'Leave' vote?

It's quite the opposite - it's a way of drawing in 'leave' voters who don't want to vote UKIP.

Single issue, EU elections only, protest against Parliament's deadlock. Couid be very popular

Circeplease · 12/04/2019 22:55

& since when is calling out the entitled white patriarchy “racist, sexist & ageist”? It’s like the Jon snow comment on the Brexit March. It’s merely an observation that the vast majority behind this new party are not exactly representative of today’s UK. I don’t see what’s wrong with that.

LarkDescending · 12/04/2019 22:56

Marina Hyde nails it yet again.

lucyinthefry · 12/04/2019 22:58

I am a Leaver but would never have voted for UKIP because of the racism. I surprised myself by being really impressed by the Brexit Party launch. Tice is not at all inspiring, but I think Farage has some really good candidates and I was actually moved by the speeches!?! Especially the one by the teacher who starts speaking at 39:34 here:

She is obviously not used to political rally type speaking but she is the first person I have ever heard who manages to articulate the reasons why I believe we do need to leave the EU.
Crabbitstick · 12/04/2019 23:06

Was Farage scared he’d be forgotten about?

Give me strength.

Ringsender2 · 12/04/2019 23:07

YABU.
