To think that the Brexit Party is the most exciting thing to happen in British politics in years

1000 candidates have applied for 73 seats, nearly a million pounds raised with small donations, buzz and brexitement on the ether and the sense that the 2 party system may be over for good....at last some good news for Brexiteers.

Viva la Revolucion!

‘But unfortunately we're leaving the EU ( and fuckin up my dds life) so what is the point of a brexit party’

Presumably they aim to show, in a proper secret ballot (not internet poll) how much support there is to leave. Because we haven’t yet left, and the majority in recent elections voted for leaving (remember Farage’s party got the most votes in 2014, and both Tory and Labour on
Leave manifestos) and F will want to keep that message clear.

Doesn’t matter about splitting the vote - UKIP and Brexit will be counted together in terms of strength of ‘Leave’ voice and if they do do well, the Parliament really will have to stop filibustering and get us out no later than October Halloween Shock

Dothehappydance · 12/04/2019 22:05

I was talking at work yesterday about the EU elections with someone who has manned polling stations. Turnout was low for the last one (35.6%), she thought that turnout this year would be lower especially as there will be no other election at the same time.

However this could mean that UKIP / Brexit Party do get a lot of seats because of voting fatigue from everyone else.

jasjas1973 · 12/04/2019 22:05

@ChavvyOldBrexiteer

They don't have any policies, not even for leaving the EU.

Farage is a one trick pony, when this party get more members & spokespersons, they start coming out with more and more rubbish, which is why Farage left Ukip, he didn't want to associated with the idiots who is was surrounded by.

BP raised approx £750,000 thats 30,000 people donating the membership fee of £25.
The Greens have 40,000 members, Labour 100,000

But the real question is why does someone who hates the EU, when the UK is still set to leave the EU & the battle for brexit/remain is Westminster want to become an MEP... unless its for the salary or the only way they can win?

Farage no longer stands in by-elections.

borntobequiet · 12/04/2019 22:06

All the more reason for everyone who finds Mr F and his ilk detestable to go out and vote.

Alsohuman · 12/04/2019 22:06

Someone's maths is as bad as Dianne Abbott's if they think UKIP got 14 million votes in the last EU elections.

CatsinSpace · 12/04/2019 22:08

Yes.
Our MEP ran a competition in local primary schools for a Winter festival card, Christmas couldn't be mentioned on the card (presumably in case it offended anyone.) That offended me.

Hopefully whatever MEPs get elected are only in situ for a short time anyway.

I have seen lots of posters on here declaring they will vote for any party opposed to Brexit regardless of their other policies, so what's the difference?

Krimpy · 12/04/2019 22:08

@Dothehappydance I'd expect there to be a higher than average turnout for these EP elections. People on both sides of the Brexit argument keen to make their opinion heard.

LarkDescending · 12/04/2019 22:08

So much Brexcitement on this Still Not Brexit Day! How to choose between The Brexit Party and Boris Johnson’s lies being called out by the press regulator?

jasjas1973 · 12/04/2019 22:09

However this could mean that UKIP / Brexit Party do get a lot of seats because of voting fatigue from everyone else

If Remain can get a million plus to march in London, i'm sure they can get the remain vote to turn out.

Krimpy · 12/04/2019 22:09

Old faithful.

anangalou · 12/04/2019 22:10

Farage can't do any worse than when he got beaten by a bloke dressed as a dolphin

LizzieSiddal · 12/04/2019 22:11

What I’m excited about is the chance to vote again and to show I want to stay in the EU.

I’ll be voting for any candidate who states that and I hope millions of others do too.

CatsinSpace · 12/04/2019 22:11

krimpy

Theresa Griffin MEP.

Please contact her to verify just in case you don't believe me.

RoseAndRose · 12/04/2019 22:12

"So you don’t even know who your candidate will be, or what their policies will be but you know already you’ll vote for them....?"

As it's PR for MEPs, then you just get who is at the top. Of your regional party list, no need to know who the candidate is - you're not voting for them as an individual.

And if the message is 'just get the fuck out of the EU' it doesn't matter what any other policies are, as they'll be gone by Hallowe'en.

If we had PR for Westminster, there would have been be about 80 UKIP MPs in 2015 (and the snap election might never have happened)

Laska2Meryls · 12/04/2019 22:12

Beg Pardon,OP, But did you just say Viva la Revolucion? in your heading post ?

Isn't that some 'funny Foreign' language??

FFS! You really should look at this website!..

I Despair

jasjas1973 · 12/04/2019 22:12

The danger for remainers is if there is no hi-profile remain party...

Change uk have yet to be approved by the Electoral Commission.

Dothehappydance · 12/04/2019 22:13

Oh I'll go, my little lone voice in a sea of Brexiteers.

The leaving isn't as much an issue as the opportunity for the rise in parties like this.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 12/04/2019 22:14

However this could mean that UKIP / Brexit Party do get a lot of seats because of voting fatigue from everyone else

Why do you think that it's only remainers that have 'voting fatigue'?

Bearbehind · 12/04/2019 22:14

How lovely it would be to have a Brexit debate that is devoid of ageism, sexism, racism and leavism, that is based on facts (and not ad hominem attacks).

I’m dying to hear the agrument for Brexit that is based on facts and isn’t ultimately based on perceptions of immigration ...............

AuntieStella · 12/04/2019 22:14

"I’ll be voting for any candidate who states that and I hope millions of others do too"

That'll mean Lib Dem or Green, or some other minor party. It's possible to stand as an independent in a Euro election, but quite hard to get enough votes across a region without party machinery behind the candidate

Krimpy · 12/04/2019 22:15

I meant 'old faithful' in that that's the first thing you Farage adoring types get your knickers in a knot about. As sure as the sun rises and sets people like you get in a tizz over winter festivals stealing your Christian culture. You're instructed to be outraged and you dutifully comply.

Melroses · 12/04/2019 22:17

No, the Brexit party is not exciting.

It is really, really boring and the same old leftovers, rehashed.

(Those websites are good though Wink )

Dottierichardson · 12/04/2019 22:18

Nigel Farage, that flim-flam man meets snake-oil salesman, with a pseudo-genial 'man of the people' veneer. So no, not excited but another one who's happy to see the right split further. And also loving the current website.

Just hope this time the BBC dial back on giving so much airtime to this marginal character.

TheSandman · 12/04/2019 22:19

I don't understand the logic of creating a different party to campaign for exactly the same thing.

Logic... Brexit... no, Ted, I still don't get it.

All it will do is split the vote and make it less likely that either party will gain significant power.

This is a bad thing?

Can you tell me the difference between UKIP and the Brexit party?

In simple language and using small words:

Nigel Farage can make more money out of the Brexit Party. End of.

Tolleshunt · 12/04/2019 22:21

YABU. The most exciting thing to happen in politics for years is Change UK - The Independent Group.

You know, the party (soon to be) who actually advocate a CHANGE of approach, not a re-hash of previous campaigns from other parties.

The party which is offering something DIFFERENT to the two main parties on Brexit.

They are currently looking for MEP candidates. Deadline is Monday, for anyone who is interested.
