Baby Name Conundrum - WIBU?

tempnamechange19 · 12/04/2019 19:03

I have name changed for this one as it is a tad outing.

My husband has come up with what he believes to be a beautiful and very fitting name for our new baby... I disagree.

The name is Byromi and is a mixture of our names.

I think that although it would be an unusual name, it is very lazy just to smash them together and it is also a bit odd sounding. He thinks I am being unreasonable not to even consider it.

Does anyone have any thoughts on either the name or the mixing of parents names to make a new name?

Thanks!

Agree, it doesnt work well as a name. It reminds me of Byriani.

@Byron85 you'll be pleased to know I know of a Shinet/Sinet... Not sure on the spelling but it's a mix between Sinead and Annette. Then you have Katie Price and Peter Andre's daughter Princess 'Tiaamii' which is a blend of their mother's names Tia and Amy.

I'm sure I'll think of more Grin

I.know someone who named her daughter Lee-Ann dad was Lee her middle name was Ann, I also used to live across the road from a House named Veda after Vera and Dave that lived there 😂

YANBU. Your DD will spend her whole life saying "not Bryony , it's.....'. It wiill be a constant source of confusion.

I don't see what is wrong with Georgiana? It was the name of Mr Darcys sister and the duchess of Devonshire. It may be a bit out of fashion, but lots of old fashioned names are coming back in. The shortened versions are cute too.

I quite like Georgiana but it is a bit fancy.

Theodora is similarly grand but less frilly and more feisty. I really like it.

How about Dorothea? More unusual and a bit girlier than Theodora, but still a real name with lots of nice nicknames.

Calixtine · 13/04/2019 13:24

Or Evangeline as a more unusual Evelyn?

Youandwhosearmy · 13/04/2019 20:50

I love Georgiana actually, and if it's good enough for a Darcy of Pemberley and all that!

AngeloMysterioso · 13/04/2019 20:57

kinda like how Will Smith and Jada Pinkett named their kids Willow and Jayden!

How the fuck have I never made that connection?!

BarrenFieldofFucks · 13/04/2019 20:57

It's just a bit try hard 🤷 sort of name I liked as a teenager but grew out of. Likewise Theodora.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/04/2019 21:45

I love it, but I think it would be a real shame not to use all of the letters in your names. There's nothing to say they have to remain in the same order.

Therefore, have you considered Bannimoory?

It's a very pretty name - quite Celtic-sounding, Hebridean, even. I'm sure your daughter would be delighted to keep explaining the origin of her unique name to everybody she meets - telling people 'the story of Bannimoory'.

Tell me, OP - do you live in a brightly-coloured house and enjoy singing songs about your own names and occupations?

LittleDoveLove · 17/04/2019 11:19

Im not sure either, I do find this sort of thing a bit cringy for me but that's just me. I have one of my little boys middle names as my dads name but that's as far as I will go. I wanted to give my child his own identity and not sure name merging does that. But it's your baby so up to you, nobody ever agrees on names :)

Greenandcabbagelooking · 17/04/2019 11:24

I like Bryony, if that helps.

Ellenborough · 17/04/2019 11:26

No. You know all the reasons why it’s terrible, but apart from anything else you will get SICK TO DEATH of correcting everyone who calls her Bryony.

sockatoe · 17/04/2019 11:30

Did he enjoy the twilight books?

Very cringey. In fact no, it's terrible. It's not just naming a baby, can you imagine an adult named this?
