Baby Name Conundrum - WIBU?

tempnamechange19 · 12/04/2019 19:03

I have name changed for this one as it is a tad outing.

My husband has come up with what he believes to be a beautiful and very fitting name for our new baby... I disagree.

The name is Byromi and is a mixture of our names.

I think that although it would be an unusual name, it is very lazy just to smash them together and it is also a bit odd sounding. He thinks I am being unreasonable not to even consider it.

Does anyone have any thoughts on either the name or the mixing of parents names to make a new name?

Thanks!

Just no

HBStowe · 12/04/2019 19:37

It’s fucking awful

Byron85 · 12/04/2019 19:38

@LettuceLeave - more genius. I like it. Taste.

nespressowoo · 12/04/2019 19:39

Terrible name!

LettuceLeave · 12/04/2019 19:40

@beela kinda like how Will Smith and Jada Pinkett named their kids Willow and Jayden!

NoHolidaysforyou · 12/04/2019 19:41

I think there's more flattering names you could come up with that achieve the same honour name goals for the both of you as parents.

For example:

  • Noah Benjamin
  • Blake Nathaniel
  • Natalia Bella
  • Brooke Niamh

Etc. Same goal but less on the nose.

Byron85 · 12/04/2019 19:42

@LettuceLeave you are becoming my new hero.

Sexnotgender · 12/04/2019 19:43

Fuck that's awful. Please don't!

ShinyMe · 12/04/2019 19:43

@tempnamechange19 - go and get him a beer, give him a hug and smile because you know you've won.

Byron - enjoy your beer, listen to your sensible wife.

Calixtine · 12/04/2019 19:44

The name is terrible (terrible, @Byron85) but your husband sounds fun Grin

What names do you like OP?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 12/04/2019 19:44

I don't normally comment on these threads because names are a very personal thing but
don't
just don't
you are setting up your child for a lifetime of spelling, correcting, teasing and generally hating their name and probably eventually you for saddling a them with that moniker

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 12/04/2019 19:46

I'm 98% sure your husband was joking, because nobody would choose to call their child Byromi.

Cherrysoup · 12/04/2019 19:47

🤮 Don't do it, your child will hate you.

Forgiven · 12/04/2019 19:50

It’s gruesome, like those tragic, mirthless bungalows called Dunroamin’ and BrianandLyndaville — and as pps have said, insanely egotistical.

This is a new person. Does your husband really think your baby is mere some kind of side effect of the two of you, or that he needs to stamp her identity as your offspring on her?

tempnamechange19 · 12/04/2019 19:50

@ShinyMe :) Thank you! Hopefully he will listen to the reasoning of mumsnet!

@Calixtine He is, despite his terrible choice of baby name! At least he is thinking outside of the box and getting involved! I like Theodora, Gerorgiana and Evelyn. He hates them all! Luckily we have some time left to decide

NewSchoolNewName · 12/04/2019 19:51

It’s not to my taste.

But more importantly, I think both parents should agree on the baby’s name. You don’t have that with Byromi.

ShaggyRug · 12/04/2019 19:51

Sorry but it’s hideous. Poor child. Don’t do that to them.

Also nickname will be By - pure fodder for bullies.

Rockmysocks · 12/04/2019 19:52

It would get shortened to byro

Rockmysocks · 12/04/2019 19:52

That could be a pen name ...Wink

Byron85 · 12/04/2019 19:52

@tempnamechange19

Whisper it.....

(byromi)

Beautiful.

itsbetterthanabox · 12/04/2019 19:52

@tempnamechange19
Is that same surname his surname originally?

Quintella · 12/04/2019 19:52

Are you Australian? I'm getting an Australian vibe. Or maybe that's just the Byron talking.

pigsDOfly · 12/04/2019 19:52

She's going to spend the whole of her life correcting people who think her name is Bryony.

Tried saying it out loud with a different emphasis and it sounds awful however you pronounce it.

Who the hell gives their child a name made from a fusion of their own two names? It's incredibly weird. Suspect he might be joking tbh.

Serin · 12/04/2019 19:53

Bromi would be a great mash up for a dog tho. Esp if you live near Birmingham.

IvanaPee · 12/04/2019 19:55

Jesus that’s horrendous 😂😂😂

I like your name choices.
