To ask where to buy a prom dress in London?

Any advice on where to look for a prom/formal dress for DD that doesn't cost £500

Online shops like ASOS and Chi Chi London have affordable ones nowadays. I would check there

Thanks first but we don't want to buy online. We want to go to a shop so she can try on. Online is such a faff for orders and returns, she could be trying several dresses.

My dd wanted a 50’s tea length so we went to Vivienes of Holloway, but if that’s not what she’s after then it’s no good!

Dd did have an online exclusive dress from Quiz but she went to the shop first to try on a similar dress in a different colour then she ordered a couple on for delivery to the shop and returned the unwanted ones straight away after she tried them on in their dressing rooms.

Ah sorry, my mistake. I just assumed London would have specific shops for formal dresses. It's not a bridesmaid dress as much but I don't know how to describe it, they are just known as formal dresses up here (NE Scotland)

Debenhams and John Lewis branches in central London have formalwear/prom dress departments too.

Most non chain prom dress stores will only have samples on to try. Then you order your dress into the shop and have to go back for fittings.

IN which case you need to go off the peg chain store or find a shop within travelling distance of where you live unless you are ultra lucky nad manage to drop on a sale/sample dress that happens to be the right size.

iirc there are lots of independent shops around finsbury park that sell prom/evening dresses.

No I don't. The whole pint of asking for advice re London prom/formal dress shops is so that we can go to one. We do t want a chain store.

This is bizarre. I'm asking about shops in London because I CAN travel into London

Or we can just go back to the store like any other purchaser.

Not trying to be awkward but I really don't want an argument about what I should be doing: I literally asked for advise on London shops for a formal dress.

Your attitude is not great OP. Either pick a place in London to go with various shops as london is a massive place or tell us the kind of dress she may want I.e modern, classic, short, long etc and we could recommend places. If you're on a budget then london is not for you. I would personally recommend harrods but obviously going to be more expensive.

Go to Debenhams. They are on the verge of going bust so need lots of folks to shop there to save the jobs of the several thousand of people who work there.
They sell dresses of loads of different styles. I am sure there will be something suitable for a prom.

Genuine suggestion, I Googled "unique prom dresses London" and it brought up lots of sites of shops. You could browse before making the trip down South then too.

London is a BIG CITY it is 80 miles across. It's not all Oxford and Regent Street.

Where do you think you might be wanting to shop? Its pointless us telling you there is a marvellous little shop in eg Petts Wood when your train comes into Paddington.

I would suggest any of the more multi cutural areas - actually there are a number of nice dress shops in Croydon - and Gravesend (way outside London but if you are coming in from the South .... ) Lakeside and Bluewater and Westfield have an array of independent shops.

That's why I was asking for advice. So we can plan where we are going, I figured if there are various places worth checking out we could work out which ones to visit.
