Any advice on where to look for a prom/formal dress for DD that doesn't cost £500 Shock

It's not strange you wanting to ask these questions. What is strange is your very aggressive attitude to those posters who were asking genuine questions in order to narrow down an area/ or shops so that your visit is not wasted. Crickey you sound so angry in all of your responses.

I’m going to make some assumptions

OP is an adult
OP fancies a trip to London
OP would like her DD to try on dresses and see what suits her shape and style
OP is aware alterations maybe needed - I’m sure Scotland has a wealth of seamstresses
OP knows how to get to London and the cost of the trip
OP has already tried google but would like a personal recommendation for shops

Prom is important to these young ladies and the dress is a big part of that. DD has tried many dresses and some looked awful in her.

Either suggest a shop or leave her alone

I'm not angry, I'm just feeling frustrated. I don't mean to sound rude or angry but I'm just fed up constantly filtering questions that bear no relevance to a simple 'any recommendations for shops?'

Go to Fonthill Road in Finsbury Park. Right by the station, you dont need any appointments, no fittings, no ordering in. Find a dress, if it needs altering take it away and do it Smile. There are some nice restaurants on Stroud Green Road- have some lunch too.

adviceneeded0101 · 09/04/2019 13:28

There’s a huge bridal shop in Westfield Stratford that does prom dresses- it’s not to my taste but it’s a bridal shop where you don’t need an appointment first and has the benefit of being located in Westfield so you can also look in other shops while you are there.

iano · 09/04/2019 13:47

Surely the style of dress is relevant. The Finsbury Park Suggestion might not be a good one if your daughter isn't after glitz. Hence people asked that question.
You've had some helpful suggestions with Finsbury Park/Croydon and the large bridal boutiques in Westfield.
The kind of experience you want might also be relevant and you might get different answers if you answer people's questions.
You're not helping yourself make a decent plan by reacting the way you are. Hope you find what your daughter is looking for and have a nice experience.

And I answered it.

I'm not 'acting' any way. I'm literally trying to find options to consider and thought some Mumsnetters might have suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am planning to look into all of them. Finsbury Park sounds like a good starter.

To the person who said London is 80 miles across... no it's not!!! Even the M25 has an average diameter of about 40-50 miles.

iano · 09/04/2019 14:15

You've had lots of suggestions!
You'd probably have had more if you hadn't been rude.

brodybear · 09/04/2019 14:21

You've had lots of suggestions!

I know. I didn't say other wise. And I have thanked people for the suggestions so not sure what your point it?

You'd probably have had more if you hadn't been rude.

Like I keep saying, I am not being intentionally rude, but I am so bloody tired of saying the same thing over and over.

Seriously, the assumptions and questions on this thread are beyond ridiculous.

If people want to suggest then they can do so without having to consider the details of my life.

Don't worry op, you posted in AIBU so is is mandatory to give you a hard time. In Style and Beauty you'd probably have got more advice and less of a grilling Grin

brodybear · 09/04/2019 14:49

zaza

I did almost post in style! Stupidly I posted here for traffic

Dress 2 Party has lots of prom dresses.
The shop is Marylebone.

Asta19 · 09/04/2019 15:31

Another vote here for Finsbury Park. I got my DD's prom dress from there for £100 and it was stunning. They have enough different sizes/styles that you are likely to find something that won't need alterations etc. My DD just tried on the one she liked, it fitted fine, job done.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 09/04/2019 18:05

@brodybear I PM you

brodybear · 09/04/2019 18:12

Yeah sorry, DD's size is not a topic of conversation for PM.

www.princessonline.co.uk

They have an amazing selection in the shop and if you have time they can do bespoke from their factory in Greece.

I got my 30th birthday dress from them and paid about £140 for a floor length beaded evening dress

brodybear · 09/04/2019 18:31

Not sure what your point is?

You have already said that. Do you get some sort of pleasure out of popping into threads just to say YABU?

OP posts:
brodybear · 09/04/2019 18:31

Thanks eastend that looks like it's well worth a visit!

OP posts:
SeriouslyStrongCheese · 09/04/2019 18:32

Only your thread. Just highlighting how rude you've been this entire time. Good luck with the dress though.

brodybear · 09/04/2019 18:33

Thanks, it's on the list

OP posts:
brodybear · 09/04/2019 18:33

I mean it's on the list because you suggested it, just to clarify
