Leavers being so dead against a second referendum is just proof they know they'll lose, surely?

If we had one and they won again it would be the ultimate confirmation that it really is the will of the people.

By refusing to countenance it and describing it as a betrayal they may as well say it's not the will of the people anymore we're insisting on honouring something no one with any sense and without a vested interest wants and we should therefore call it off.

We're being forced into something the people who most support it clearly know is no longer the people's choice that's going to do horrible damage to the country. Just why can no one stop it???

Window educating yourself is a point on which we can definitely agree. Of course we all can have different opinions so long as they are backed up with research, it is why I’ve read the relevant treaties, looked at ecj case law. Not everything leavers say is wrong and not everything remainers day is right. There are intelligent arguments for both sides of the debate, there nearly always are. It’s balance which side you fall on after weighing up the pros and cons of each side.

Unfortunately as I’ve said before the ability to critically analyse seems to have all but disappeared. People have become lazy and want to be spoon fed yes no answers with a few sound bites to back up their arguments that they can simply regurgitate at will.

Yes it would be nice to hear that. But I can see that they might be so sick and tired of being accused of being racists that they don’t see the point as any acknowledgement of racism is likely to be jumped on and twisted yet again. You just know the headlines will be “multi millionaire elitist Etonian Rees -mogg admits leave vote was based on racism” the BBC will not be saying “Anti racist Rees mogg slams the minority racists who voted leave” will it! If Boris said anything would the headlines read “ex mayor of the most multicultural city in the world stands by his principles and distances leave vote from racists” or “bumbling bigot boris admits tommy Robinson helped win the leave vote”?

Then you keep saying it until the headlines change. Eventually there are clicks, views, advertising sales in a story where big name Leavers consistently give an anti racist message. A loud regular one. It would be a new angle. Hard to believe they don't know how to work the media.

I can see your point about the message being twisted Lifeover but I actually think they wanted that dog whistle appeal to the racist element. I think a strong condemnation might have lost them critical votes.

As a country we are not sophisticated enough to debate immigration or understand the basics of democracy. Which is why we have a representative democracy, which is why we shouldn't have had a referendum, which is why this whole mess is a fiasco.

We need some kind of constitutional review and a public inquiry as a result of Brexit. The problem is people will lose interest and it will get kicked into the long grass.

I think you'll find awwwlook that a) there was a re-run of the general election and that b) we got a Tory government on the back of a considerable minority of the electorate.
