To think living this rurally would be creepy?

We went to see a plot of land today with the potential to build a house. Absolutely beautiful land BUT you can't see another house. It's a "no one would hear you scream scenario." We have young DC and DH often travels. We have always lived in urban areas. Would this be bizarre or do you get used to it?

No neighbours...sounds like heaven to me!

I’d say you’d probably get used to it. Depends on whether you’re a naturally nervous person? Also...... what was the mobile signal like?

My friend lives in the sticks with just 1 other house near and a few probably half a mile away. They have a dog tells them exactly when anyone is about. It's lovely and peaceful. She used to live on a main road and would never swap back. I'd love somewhere more quiet.

I'm with you OP, I would hate it. I do often dream of moving out of London to somewhere more rural but that would be too isolated for me.

I think you do get used to it. I live in a town now but when dc1 was younger and I was pregnant with dc2 we lived really rurally. Dh worked away so I was completely alone. It never bothered me at all until one night when I was convinced I saw someone dashing between the bushes in the garden. I didn’t know what to do as all my lights were on so if there was someone out there they could see exactly where I was. I dashed round locking all the doors then hid in dc’s room with the phone ready to call the police. Then I convinced myself I’d locked the baddie in with me and I wouldn’t be able to get out quickly being heavily pregnant and carrying dc1. Did I mention I live in a town now?

We live about 1/2 mile from our nearest neighbours (but can see houses so sounds like you'd be much more isolated) and mostly I love it. So quiet, lovely views. That's not to say I don't get creeped out every now and then, and that's after 10 years of living here!

I wouldn't find it creepy, but it would annoy me that you couldn't just pop to the corner shop for milk / you'd have to drive to school / activities etc. The DC would hate it once they got older as well. I grew up very rurally and it was a mare trying to get out as a teenager.

More important questionsto ask yourself. Are you willing to drive everywhere, no corner shop etc. What would the utilities be like for your house I.e septic tank oil. No mains.
I Think you are probably more in shouting distance with no neighbours than with neighbours. Live in an isolated neighbourhood and people are more tuned into unusual goings on than urban areas.

We have a place in Wales like this. It doesn't bother me at all.

The no neighbours wouldn't bother me but not being able to walk to the shop when I've forgotten to buy loo roll/milk/chocolate would be my downfall.

My parents live somewhere like that, you can just about see a roof in one direction.

Are you happy driving everywhere? Dc can't do anything without you taking them. You can't just pop out for milk. And forget about fibre broadband.

The only plus is it's really dark at night.
