To think that Jeremy Kyle Show has gone really downmarket all of a sudden?

Have it on in the background. They have just shown someone's personal text messages on screen in which they were talking about a prostitute and how she "was a really good shag". I haven't seen it in ages but it was not like this before, this is salacious and quite vile. And is it actually legal to show someone's text messages on TV now we have GDPR?

Was it ever upmarket?!! Shock

NotMyUsualTopBilling · 04/04/2019 16:00

As opposed to its usual high brow self? 🤣

Didntwanttochangemyname · 04/04/2019 16:01
Hmm
badlydrawnperson · 04/04/2019 16:02

Ha ha ha ha

Mascarponeandwine · 04/04/2019 16:02

Christ, I haven’t watched it for years and couldn’t imagine it could get lower than it was

AwdBovril · 04/04/2019 16:04

Is that even possible? To go downmarket I mean? It was pretty much on the floor to begin with!

Jupiters · 04/04/2019 16:05

When was it ever upmarket?!

ShinyRuby · 04/04/2019 16:05

You're right, 10 years ago I used to watch it fairly regularly & though it was a bit chavvy, I was always quite impressed with the help that some of the guests would be given afterwards. I caught an episode a few weeks ago & it was just awful: screaming, swearing, threats of violence & a general air of people just wanting their moment on tv & to "have their say". They were pretty scary actually! JK himself just stood there looking smug. I can't believe it's still on & sounds like it's hit a new low now.

justmyview · 04/04/2019 16:06

I saw the show recently for the first time in several years, I noticed that the baby was in the waiting room, and the baby was named, whereas years ago, the baby's name was bleeped out, and you certainly didn't see the child

I never had a particularly high opinion of the show anyway, but I did think that naming/showing the child was a new low

DaedricLordSlayer · 04/04/2019 16:07

haha really never thought it was anything but down market Confused

Aeroflotgirl · 04/04/2019 16:08

When was it ever upmarket!

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/04/2019 16:10

Are you sure you haven't got it mixed up with something else?

It was always awful, lowest common denominator stuff.

GoldenPineapples · 04/04/2019 16:10

I saw an episode yesterday and one of the guests was telling jk that her boyfriend had sent a picture of his privates to another woman who then forwarded it to her. She said she knew it was him for certain because she had just redecorated and the new wallpaper is in the background.

They then showed said picture on the screen in the background (which was blurred for tv but the audience could clearly see it not blurred.)

I thought that was extremely crass of them because I'm sure the audience can just imagine what a nude picture of a man's penis looks like without needing to actually see it!

CabbageHippy · 04/04/2019 16:12

brilliant - not sure it was ever up market though. Most of the guests appear to only have 1 tooth between the lot of them, how so many members of the British public have no teeth is beyond me

TheQueef · 04/04/2019 16:13

All of a sudden?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 04/04/2019 16:14

Errrr...... it was always down market 😄 I know what you mean though, I rarely watch it but when I do I feel like a lot of it should be for post-watershed 😄

Patroclus · 04/04/2019 16:15

They show it in Russia all the time. It gets me really annoyed that we allow the rest of the world to see us like that.

happyhillock · 04/04/2019 16:15

Ive never watched it,

Samind · 04/04/2019 16:17

Stopped watching it years ago. He is such an antagonist and barely actually deals with people's problems but finds time in there to mock them or turn it into a pantomine.

Ninkaninus · 04/04/2019 16:19

‘All of a sudden”??

It’s always been complete and utter shit, exploitative and nasty.

KnifeAngel · 04/04/2019 16:19

They didn't actually show that the word shag was blurred out.

NewAccount270219 · 04/04/2019 16:20

I honestly don't know how anyone can watch it without feeling ashamed. I watched it once, at someone else's insistence, and couldn't believe how exploitative, degrading and dehumanising it is. I also once read a newspaper piece about how they exploit and deliberately rile up the 'guests' and the mess they leave their lives in - it was really upsetting. I think people who watch and enjoy it are the people who would have watched public executions and got a bit of a hard on for them in the past.

MillyMollyMandie · 04/04/2019 16:23

I watched an episode recently and Jeremy Kyle was just awful. He was screaming and yelling. He was as ugly as ugly can be.

WillGymForPizza · 04/04/2019 16:24

It's a dreadful programe and always has been. When I was a teenager I used to listen to a late night radio show where people would phone in with their problems and the host would offer them 'advice'. I use that term lightly because he was more often that not astonishingly rude to the callers under the guise of being real and honest. Years later I discovered that the host of that radio show was in fact a pre television fame Jeremy Kyle.... he was known as 'Jezza' then though.

IMO he's just a knock off poor mans Jerry Springer.

Willow2017 · 04/04/2019 16:25

Watched it a couple of times years ago.
He was a smug self satisfied odiius little man getting off on telling people how vile they are then. I imagine he has only got worse since as he seems to believe himself judge and jury while his own behaviour on amd off screen leaves a lot to be desired.
It was way below downmarket then didnt think.it could go lower😀
