To think that Jeremy Kyle Show has gone really downmarket all of a sudden?

Have it on in the background. They have just shown someone's personal text messages on screen in which they were talking about a prostitute and how she "was a really good shag". I haven't seen it in ages but it was not like this before, this is salacious and quite vile. And is it actually legal to show someone's text messages on TV now we have GDPR?

I can to say exactly what purplelass said

Feelinggoodtuesday · 04/04/2019 17:28

“Came to say” even!

Zebra31 · 04/04/2019 17:45

I completely agree Op. Its disgusting, it’s really gone down in my estimations. I preferred it when it was a more prestigious current affairs program.

Namechangedforbabyname · 04/04/2019 17:49

Whereas before it was a really classy and decent show 😂😂😂

Ylvamoon · 04/04/2019 17:51

Wow not sure if it ever was ANYTHING MARKET! Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/04/2019 17:54

YABU. Since when has it ever been upmarket.

Hazeintheclouds · 04/04/2019 17:54

I echo the “When in god’s name was the dross ever NOT downmarket?!”

🤣

Hazeintheclouds · 04/04/2019 17:55

Did it used to be current affairs? Ah. I stand corrected. Lol

MissClareRemembers · 04/04/2019 17:59

@GoldenPineapples Grin

Perhaps she was just really pleased with her new wallpaper...

Blueowls · 04/04/2019 18:01

It was ever thus. Abhorrent programme.

EmeraldShamrock · 04/04/2019 18:05

I have not warched it in years, back then all the shouting fried my brain.
When he interviews really vulnerable people, he has no empathy, he makes jokes, it shouldn't be allowed on TV.

ALongHardWinter · 04/04/2019 18:07

Was it ever 'upmarket'? Grin

Sagradafamiliar · 04/04/2019 18:09

It's been a through-and-through utter disgrace from the beginning.

Sockwomble · 04/04/2019 18:16

It has always been awful but on the few minutes that I saw recently, Kyle looks even more smug, the baiting is even more obvious and there are even more 'heavies' on stage standing between people squaring up to each other.

ineedaknittedhat · 04/04/2019 18:24

It's on at work sometimes (care home), but I try to switch it over as the people I care for get frightened by the shouting and screaming ☹

I think most tv is pretty abysmal now and it's a race to the bottom.

Looobyloo · 04/04/2019 18:28

You obviously missed the episode 'did you poo in my fridge' there was a lie detector and everything. I just thought, well.....

I was in the audience once. There was no fighting, lie detector, arguing, nothing. I felt very cheated!

SabineUndine · 04/04/2019 18:32

Downmarket from where, for heaven's sake? I have watched a total of half an hour of it once and ten minutes another time and the first time I was in a hospital waiting room and it was on the telly. I was fucking horrified - there was a chap on who looked to be having a breakdown and they continued to film him.

Disgraceful.

KittiKat · 04/04/2019 18:38

OP you've made me laugh out loud! Thank you! Grin Grin grin]

ForalltheSaints · 04/04/2019 18:44

Why have it on in the background? Could you not just turn the tv off?

Madbengalmum · 04/04/2019 18:46

Horrid program which has always been downmarket.

hazeyjane · 04/04/2019 18:46

Yeah, its a shame, it used to be all....''My girlfriend said life is absurdist in it's ultimate lack of meaning, and this can only be overcome by a commitment to moral integrity and social solidarity....but I said, 'fuck that, I'm with Kierkegaard in his belief in the ambiguity and subjective nature of life, all existence and shit'....then she shagged my best mate"

Now it's all, ''I shagged the mum of my best mate and she then left me for my girlfriend and nicked all my best vape liquids and sold them on the market''

standards have really dropped

PortiaCastis · 04/04/2019 18:48

The programme is disgusting how the hell is that entertainment?

seesawteddy · 04/04/2019 18:51

YABU it has always been a bear pit

Villanellesproudmum · 04/04/2019 18:54

I used to watch it years ago and thought it was hilarious when he tried to befriend them “I like you” “you’re alright you are” usually to a completely useless parent or something similar? Does he still do that? It was totally patronising and the recipient seemed to think they were best buddies.

Villanellesproudmum · 04/04/2019 18:56

Did you poo in my fridge Grin I need to start watching it again!
