To think that Jeremy Kyle Show has gone really downmarket all of a sudden?

Have it on in the background. They have just shown someone's personal text messages on screen in which they were talking about a prostitute and how she "was a really good shag". I haven't seen it in ages but it was not like this before, this is salacious and quite vile. And is it actually legal to show someone's text messages on TV now we have GDPR?

all of a sudden?

Hmm
littlenit · 04/04/2019 16:29

I'd suggest it's always been utter shite usually features people with poor dental hygiene or lacking teeth.

BlackSatinDancer · 04/04/2019 16:31

It has always been really downmarket. I haven't watched it for years as it always seemed to cater for the dregs of society. If it has gone downmarket lately then goodness knows how diabolical it is now.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/04/2019 16:33

I remember his radio show too. It’s the modern day equivalent of going around an asylum for a gawp at the patients.

LimeKiwi · 04/04/2019 16:35

I honestly don't know how anyone can watch that show, I have to turn over as soon as it comes on as I can't stand it.
It's like a modern day version of bear baiting/poking sticking people in rings and laughing at them when some of them (meant in the nicest possible way) need obvious help or aren't very bright.

NannyRed · 04/04/2019 16:38

No! It’s nit gone downhill, it’s still firmly where it always was, at the bottom of the hill.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/04/2019 16:39

The whole country is on a rapid downward spiral and is just about finished. Everything is just so base and vulgar these days. Even dear old Melvyn Bragg used a split infinitive on the radio last November.

alittlesnow · 04/04/2019 16:41

It's been lousy for this entire decade.

I don't know where they find the creatures that they feature on there, and JK is an annoying, 3rd rate 'celebrity' who thinks he is the King of morning TV, with his talking down to people with the I.Q. of a rubber duck. In reality, he is a former DJ who got lucky and jumped into the morning slot left over when Trisha Goddard left her morning show.

His predictable lines 'look at me,' 'what does this mean to you?' 'get off my stage?' 'Get a job.' 'Put something on the end of it,' 'ignore them they should be at work,' and similar lame crap that he comes out with, have got tired now, along with his shit show. And the 'hilarious banter' he has with his security guard 'Steve,' is pathetic and pitifully staged.

And no I don't purposely watch it. DH has it on 3 or 4 times a month, and it gets worse every time I see it.

I read JK's autobiography once entitled 'I am only being honest,' written by him, and it was like it had been written by a 14 year old, (of average intelligence,) preparing for their GSCE English exam, and not a middle aged man who portrays himself as clever and smart and knowledgeable about everything!

The fact he left his wife and children for the childrens NANNY speaks volumes about him.

Popsicle434544 · 04/04/2019 16:43

I read the title and proper chuckled, whens it ever been upmarket

RustyParker · 04/04/2019 16:44

I gather the show nowadays keeps bringing back previous guests for the latest saga in their lives. These guests seem to believe they are famous / popular so play up even more to the camera.

I don't believe there can be much in the way of specialist aftercare. Graham should be struck off and I wish one of those security guys would just knock JK out; he routinely humiliates one of them in particular and looks so uncomfortable to be singled out.

calpop · 04/04/2019 16:45

All of a sudden?

RustyParker · 04/04/2019 16:50

I hated how he berates women with inaccurate information. He shouted at one women about why she didn't "put" her ex partner on their child's birth certificate and when she replied he needed to be there, he screamed that he didn't.

He has zero understanding of abuse so it's frightening the reach he has to people who are already marginalised and disenfranchised.

SilverySurfer · 04/04/2019 17:00

I'm trying to fathom how it can go downmarket when it has always been at gutter level?

LHMB · 04/04/2019 17:01

I honestly don't know how anyone can watch that show, I have to turn over as soon as it comes on as I can't stand it.

Same

CabbageHippy · 04/04/2019 17:02

@NewAccount270219 - I met someone that was on it as they desperately wanted help with an alcoholic family member - she told me they get you to arrive really early & then put you into separate rooms & wind you up by saying the other person is saying all sorts so your really angry once your on the stage.

They then promised them help etc etc & all they were actually offered was 2 sessions of CBT

It really is taking advantage of vulnerable people imo

3luckystars · 04/04/2019 17:02

I tried to watch it before but could not understand very much, if they subtitled it might make it a bit easier to follow.

ScreamingValenta · 04/04/2019 17:03

Tee hee!

Slowknitter · 04/04/2019 17:04

Whaaat? Surely it is and has always been the epitome of downmarket!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 04/04/2019 17:06

It’s always been horrible. I used to watch it in a fascinated way, but then they had a woman on who was pregnant and she didn’t know whether it was to her partner or her partner’s father. The DNA test was going to be of limited help here. It was clear that she was vulnerable and had been exploited and I was disgusted that this show was making a spectacle of this poor woman. Never watched it again. If it’s got worse since, I dread to think.

polarpig · 04/04/2019 17:23

So it's now in the sewers rather than the gutter? Hmm

Rottencooking · 04/04/2019 17:24

All of a sudden Hmm

MidsomerBurgers · 04/04/2019 17:27

It's always been the TV version of Take a Break and Chat hasn't it?

MidsomerBurgers · 04/04/2019 17:27

But with fewer teeth!

quizqueen · 04/04/2019 17:27

No one forces people to go on that show so I can only conclude that they want the world to see how badly they behave!

Boysey45 · 04/04/2019 17:27

Basically it ridicules very poor vulnerable people and the people watching it think that they are a cut above the people featured on the programme.
Its a t.v/underclass version of bear baiting. Its disgusting and its a sad reflection on society that people actually watch it.
