To be upset that I've gone into labour a week before my planned c section, and the hospital are telling me not to come in?

Just that really!
Having contractions since yesterday morning. Early stage labour still, but they are getting more painful each time.
I called L&D, explained my situation and why I'm having a c section this time (3 day labour with my son, failure to progress past 3cm, and 11months age difference between them both)
BUT they still told me to wait?! She said i don't sound in enough pain to come in?!
Thats 1) because I'm calling inbetween contractions and 2) probably because I'm not that far along yet.

I just do not understand why i have to go through this pain when a c section has been agreed?
Sorry i know I'm ranting a bit but i just don't understand their thinking and no matter what way i worded the question i still go told to wait :(

Any advice? AIBU to be frustrated?!

Thanks for reading

Do you have someone who can growth you and be firm with them? Its hard to do that yourself when you are in pain.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 02/04/2019 09:36

Go in. Get seen in person. Make sure the person with you can keep repeating the info you gave about why consultant suggested a c section.
Wishing you all the very best xxx

I had one twin in the side room (where the midwife had put me to wait for the day staff Hmm ) and one in the delivery room at the other side of the ward (having used all the equipment trollies from the first delivery room). I should have had them next to the theatre. DH nearly got to deliver both of them. Total chaos. Hmm.

Hope OP fairs better Flowers

ittakes2 · 02/04/2019 09:56

Call when you are in pain. Just go in anyway and insist.

BettyDuMonde · 02/04/2019 09:59

I had a planned section at 39+2. I wanted it as close to due date as possible (usual protocol was 38wk). I had been told in no uncertain terms that if labour began, my planned section would immediately become an emergency one and that I should go to hospital straight away.

If I were you I would go in.

Best of luck x

Hope you're currently being prepared to safely meet your second baby, OP.

"A second labour can go very fast..."

I can vouch for this. My first labour was 4 and a half hours long, from first start to finish - my second was 82 minutes, and the speed of it put me off having a third child, in case I didn't make it to the hospital (30 minutes away from us) on time!

Why are midwives playing roulette with not only the lives of the babies they're meant to help into the world - but those of their mothers, too? It's ridiculous, and horrifying. With my youngest, I wasn't in a great deal of pain at all, due to an underlying neurological condition which hadn't then been diagnosed. Luckily because I'd given birth before, I knew the signs of labour, and went in... but I remember having a conversation with my midwife, only slightly breathless, whilst she guided my son's head out of me! The poor trainee who was there didn't know what to think! Had I been told "oh, you're able to talk, you're not in enough pain" (whatever "enough pain" actually is?!), then my son may well have been born on the kitchen floor I decided absolutely had to be mopped right before I left for the hospital...!

OP, I hope that everything goes well for you and your little one. I think we're all keeping our fingers crossed for you, today! Flowers

Your first labour sounds very similar to mine, OP, horrendous 4/5 min apart contractions for about 2.5 days but still only 2/3cm. Finally got to 4cm and was admitted but another day later/waters manually broken/drip and still only 5/6cm.. Eventually got too much for DD and heart rate kept dropping so rushed in for crash section. Absolutely no way I wanted to risk anything like that for DC2 so had ELCS.. Though all the way through my pregnancy HCPs were trying to convince me to go for VBAC and I felt like I was making a fuss about nothing. Why can't they just listen to women Angry

Really hope it all goes well, keep us updated Flowers

Hoping you haven't updated because you've gone in OP.

I’d planned an elcs at 38+2 with my DTs, but was told if I went in to labour before to get to the hospital ASAP and they’d do a c section then instead. It didn’t happen, but I’d go straight in and ignore what you’ve been told if I were you!

Good luck today! 💐

Unfinishedkitchen · 02/04/2019 10:11

Go in anyway. I know of someone who lost twins after being told not to go in when experiencing contractions. It’s not worth the risk.

I had a Elective booked but went in to labour before the date it was planned, I went straight in and DC was delivered by emergency C/S as soon as I went it. The surgeon said my scar tissue (prev C/S) was a problem.
Glad I went in. Couldn't have any more tho.

Good Luck, come back with the news tho, don't leave us hanging......

sagradafamiliar · 02/04/2019 10:24

It's just infantilising women under maternity care again. This is the only situation I would ever suggest you should go in and kick off, make a scene, do what you need to do. I would never advise it in any other scenario but unfortunately if you can lift up a phone, speak coherently and not be hysterical, then you won't fit their checklist for established labour. Which is bollocks. I gave birth on the floor outside because I wasn't taken seriously, and my situation wasn't as complicated as yours because I wasn't high risk/having a c-section.
Good luck.

Dumdedumdedum · 02/04/2019 10:26

Thinking of you, OP, hope all good now.

Elmo311 · 02/04/2019 10:26

I'm here now, been waiting a while! Contractions have slowed right down...wondering if its the stress of it all!
Don't worry everyone, i won't leave you hanging!

I went into labour before my planned section also and was left to go through labour for hours and hours with no pin relief and then a disastrous emergency c section at the end of it

poundoflard · 02/04/2019 10:29

oooohhh......
exciting....

enjoy the break between contractions :) rest and well.. keep posting :)

Good luck !

Good luck op Flowers

fluffylittleclouds · 02/04/2019 10:32

Glad you’re at the hospital OP.

I’m just very surprised, given you had an EMCS 11 months ago, that you were told to stay at home despite experiencing contractions! I wonder whether the midwife properly listened to your situation.

I was told to come in straight away with 2nd baby (wasn’t high risk, previous VB) despite being capable to talk on the phone and not in a great amount of pain because 2nd labours statistically are much quicker than 1st timers.

ineedaknittedhat · 02/04/2019 10:34

Insist on seeing a doctor and tell them that they will be taking full responsibility if something goes wrong. You can't labour with an 11 month old section scar.

Midwives are a breed apart, they really are.

user1471546851 · 02/04/2019 10:35

All that "your not in enough pain" really gripes me!!
Some people have high pain thresholds!!
I insisted on going in on my 2nd as the pain ramped up after 30 mins at home after being told not to go in as I didn't sound like I was in pain!
Even though my 1st was only a 4 hour labour.
Then they put me on a ward with other mums who had had their baby's already and refused to check me for an hour! Until I called someone to tell them I really need checking as I know I'm close!
They finally checked and I was 9 cm and feeling like pushing
My 2nd was just under a 2 hour labour.
I don't scream and shout and cry in labour but that doesn't mean I wasnt in enough bloody pain!!
Good luck op! Flowers

oh4forkssake · 02/04/2019 10:40

My contractions slowed right down when i went to hospital with DD2.....could well be the stress. Hope they manage to slot you into the list soon!
