To be upset that I've gone into labour a week before my planned c section, and the hospital are telling me not to come in?

Just that really!
Having contractions since yesterday morning. Early stage labour still, but they are getting more painful each time.
I called L&D, explained my situation and why I'm having a c section this time (3 day labour with my son, failure to progress past 3cm, and 11months age difference between them both)
BUT they still told me to wait?! She said i don't sound in enough pain to come in?!
Thats 1) because I'm calling inbetween contractions and 2) probably because I'm not that far along yet.

I just do not understand why i have to go through this pain when a c section has been agreed?
Sorry i know I'm ranting a bit but i just don't understand their thinking and no matter what way i worded the question i still go told to wait :(

Any advice? AIBU to be frustrated?!

Thanks for reading

Same thing happeneD to me with my second. Phone in at 3am, they told me to phone back in the morning and let them know how I was getting on. Had to get DP to phone at 5am, they didn't want to let me come in. Hospital is a 10 min drive and by the time I get there I was 9cms and got up on the table to deliver 30 mins after arriving. I was pissed off because if it had been my first I woul have had no idea what to expect and would have probably delivered my baby on the living room floor with just DP there.

@KnifeAngel I think I'll try to speak to the consultant, and if that doesn't work I'll go in. Thank you

@DartmoorDoughnut Your hospital sounds much nicer than mine! I agree, i think I'll have to really push it if i want the c section....pisses me off though.

@kaytee87 Good idea, I'll do that now. Took paracetamol overnight though, does fuck all!

@Mammyloveswine Aw thank you Flowers I am torn, as i think people have made good points about them not being able to fit me in etc
Will try to call the consultant this morning and see what she says. Wish me luck x

@GorgonzolaForever Good to know! You and Mammyloveswine are giving me hope!

@Raspberrytruffle 😮 I'm glad it all went ok and your recovery was better. They should have honoured the c section though! Buggers.

Go! You don't want to risk a ruptured uterus!

Nousernameforme · 02/04/2019 08:09

Go in and be a squeeky wheel. Don't let them send you away keep trying to get through to the consultant. Show the mw your notes where it says you need a c section.
Good luck

I had my first child a year ago and agreed a maternal request ELCS. The surgeon said of her accord that if I went into labour early to contact them as soon as possible as they’d expect to be able to carry out the c section still. I’d thought that was routine therefore and i’d expect that to be even more the case when you have had your first section for medical reasons and now have a fairly recent scar. Id call and and ask for the consultant to be um... consulted!

Jasharps · 02/04/2019 08:10

@daddysgirl

The OP said she'd explained the situation and l&d have not deemed it an emergency.

OP, you sound anxious. I think you should go in and explain the situation and get checked out for reassurance.

Littleraindrop15 · 02/04/2019 08:11

I have a planned c section next week and I've been told if you start going into labour come in straight away to avoid baby going into the canal which causes complications.

Satina · 02/04/2019 08:12

Go in, they should try to arrange a semi-elective LSCS.

Hubblebubbletripletrouble · 02/04/2019 08:12

Just to say good luck Flowers

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 02/04/2019 08:13

Tbh I would go in-with your history you need monitoring and they need you there to know they have to fit you in on the list because you will become an emergency section-it doesn’t matter that they have stuff booked-your baby is important and you don’t want to take risks.

weebarra · 02/04/2019 08:16

This happened to me with my 3rd DC after 2 previous EMCS for failure to progress. When I went in (as instructed), the registrar set me up for monitoring. I could see and feel the contractions, regular and speeding up. When the senior registrar came to check, she immediately whisked me up for my section. I had DD about 15 mins later. She just wasn't happy risking it.

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 02/04/2019 08:19

do what you think best op, good luck.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/04/2019 08:22

They do say if labour starts spontaneously and progresses then a planned elective section might not be possible.

Ring up and talk to them.

Stinkytoe · 02/04/2019 08:23

IME the midwives don’t like ELCS (sorry I’d this seems like a generalisation). I had one booked in for my first with an instruction to go in at the slightest sign of labour should it start before my booked date.
I went in around 9am in the morning to be told I wasn’t in labour, despite my insistence and having to endure the examinations that I’d be so desperate to avoid. They sent me home and I naively accepted the pains were not labour. My son was born at home at 1pm that day.

Thesearmsofmine · 02/04/2019 08:25

Go in, even if you aren’t whisked off for a c section you need monitoring with your last c section being less than a year ago.

When I had ds3 I was advised that I could change my mind about having a c section anytime until he was born(had two previous c sections).

Troels · 02/04/2019 08:25

I'd just go in, you don't want the baby to go too far down the birth canal, then it makes the c-section more difficult.
You will probably be an emergency c-section, they will delay someone who can wait a few hours or a day, and do yours.

Lazydaisies · 02/04/2019 08:28

Good luck OP. I had a VBAC after failure to progress first time around. Not what you want though I appreciate. Just in case this is useful, it was a hell of a lot easier second time around.

I hope you get your section.

I'd go in and get your DP on the case with them.

GruffaIo · 02/04/2019 08:36

Sorry, OP, I'm not clear on one part: did you have a C-section with your first? Or was it just that a C-section was agreed for the second?

If you had a C-section with your first, I'd go in now. If not, it doesn't seem not quite so serious, but I can still see why you're worried, and I'd probably still go in though be prepared to be treated like it's not an emergency.

Elmo311 · 02/04/2019 08:38

Thanks everyone, keep the comments coming!
The last 6 contractions have been 4mins apart but are only 30ish seconds long.
Gonna eat my porridge, shower and go in!

Wish me luck, will update you all.
Xx

@GruffaIo yes i had a c section with my son 11months ago due to failure to progess, he was also back to back. 3 days of labour and never got past 3cm, had one high temp and a few low HB readings so was rushed for emergency c section,

GruffaIo · 02/04/2019 08:41

Then go in NOW!!

mummyhaschangedhername · 02/04/2019 08:45

Why are you eating if your planning a c section? All mine I needed to not eat for.

DrWhy · 02/04/2019 08:47

Definitely go in now and make a nuisance of yourself. Insist that you need a c section that close to a previous c section, show your notes, ask for a consultant. I hope it goes well.

Cheby · 02/04/2019 08:47

Your section was only 11 months ago?! In that case a VBAC is not recommended as risk of scar rupture is much higher. Go now please OP. It’s important. If you have any sharp or constant pain that doesn’t go away then you need to call an ambukance

megletthesecond · 02/04/2019 08:49

Go in now. Flowers
