AIBU to think asking a 5 year old to say toilet tissue is a horrible genteelism?

It's loo paper, and you flush it down a loo.

Also, has anyone else noticed how dusty it is?

Toilet paper or toilet roll

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 01/04/2019 16:18

We call it toilet roll...

Fiveredbricks · 01/04/2019 16:18

Loo roll or toilet roll.

Also if anyone reading this only wipes with loo roll and not with wet wipes/similar too then 🤮 grim.

labazsisgoingmad · 01/04/2019 16:18

years ago you always called it toilet tissue along with sanitary protection and the like i call it loo roll

MadameDD · 01/04/2019 16:18

toilet paper.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/04/2019 16:19

I'm not sure that it's exactly loo-toilet-bog, I think 'bog' circles around to the posh end as well. I would have happily used the word 'bog' with my friends as a teenager, but 'loo' with the generation above me, I would never use 'toilet'.

Mallardia · 01/04/2019 16:20

So 'bog' is posh now. mmmkay.

HepzibahHumbug · 01/04/2019 16:20

Pps it's been a larf but the serious point is why are our recently loo/toilet/wc/lavatory trained children being corrected by teaching staff to call it what the staff like rather than what the children are each comfortable with?
It's a tricky transition from preschool/home to full time school and one of the biggest problems is when/how to poo or pee.
Shouldn't the child be allowed to call it what they are used to without being corrected and made to feel shame?

I can't seem to care what other people call it. It's a personal choice to me, not a class marker.

spaniorita · 01/04/2019 16:22

It's cack wrap. Call a spade a spade!

burritofan · 01/04/2019 16:23

Bog is grim, but marginally more acceptable than toilet or lavatory because it has no misplaced poshness aspirations.

DontCallMeShitley · 01/04/2019 16:23

Best not to sit on the toilet, it is really a Crapper. In fact we should call them Crapper rolls or Crapper paper, not to be confused with the truly crap paper from Who Gives a Crap. As for the bamboo bog rolls, I worry about the pandas, you are wiping your arse on their dinner.

adaline · 01/04/2019 16:23

Toilet paper here.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 01/04/2019 16:24

I call it toilet roll, but if I write it on a shopping list I put Bathroom Stationery, because it makes dh roll his eyes, and I hope to see one of my lists enshrined on the internets some day. :o

Hoppinggreen · 01/04/2019 16:25

Loo roll here ( or bog roll if you are DH)

Aethelthryth · 01/04/2019 16:25

Loo roll here. "T-t tissssyou" is one of those marketing expressions like "sensitive bladder"

Quintella · 01/04/2019 16:26

Ah a MN class thread.

I'm Irish and say toilet. Absolutely no aspirations to be posh, it's just what I call it. I also sometimes refer to the 'jacks' which is pretty vulgar really but i do love saying it.

Quintella · 01/04/2019 16:26

So yes I say toilet roll.

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 01/04/2019 16:27

I call it toilet roll or "Lou Rowles" (after a character in a book I read donkeys years ago. Forget which book, but the name stuck!)

And the other stuff I call "arse dust" Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/04/2019 16:28

Grin at bathroom stationery. If I write it on a shopping list, I write T.Roll, which looks like troll, which would also cause amusement if I lost a list that was subsequently found by a Mumsnetter.

Megan2018 · 01/04/2019 16:33

Toilet roll here!

Pinkbells · 01/04/2019 16:33

We tend to cal it toilet rather than loo here, and say ‘tissue paper’ not toilet or loo paper. Everyone calls it something different. A friend calls it bog roll Grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/04/2019 16:36

Loo roll. I don’t call it paper as I consider paper to be something to be written / printed on. As you say it’s dusty - and absorbent no less. More like cheap blotting paper.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/04/2019 16:38

Pinkbells
Tissue paper is completely different and comes in big strips, can be used as wrapping paper. Just getting visions of giving a gift wrapped in loo roll. Grin
