AIBU to think asking a 5 year old to say toilet tissue is a horrible genteelism?

It's loo paper, and you flush it down a loo.

Also, has anyone else noticed how dusty it is?

I call it toilet tissue.

clairemcnam · 01/04/2019 16:03

God such snobbery OP. Does it really matter?

PointlessUsername · 01/04/2019 16:03

Bog,Loo, Toilet - ROLL ,never Tissue

itbemay · 01/04/2019 16:04

Loo Roll or Toilet Paper here!

Mallardia · 01/04/2019 16:04

'Toilet' is one of the zillion class markers that British people obsess over. Although to be fair the Americans seem even more horrified by the word. Horrified by the word yet happy to leave big gaps above, below, and to the side of toilet stalls where everyone can you perching on The Thing Which Cannot Be Mentioned. It's a funny old world. Grin

Raspberrytruffle · 01/04/2019 16:04

Bog roll here, toilet tissue if I'm feeling classy

Mallardia · 01/04/2019 16:05

Loo , toilet is grammatically incorrect.

It is?

cuppycakey · 01/04/2019 16:05

serin Kill the bitch!! Smile

It's loo, not toilet (shudders) Toilet is awful!

Don't even get me started on "pardon" which generates images of grimy kids with snot running down their faces.

Raspberrytruffle · 01/04/2019 16:05

Ah my dh calls it arse paper

Acis · 01/04/2019 16:05

Toilet tissue/bathroom tissue is very wanky.

clairemcnam · 01/04/2019 16:05

No it is not.
This is just snobbery.

Mallardia · 01/04/2019 16:06

Don't even get me started on "pardon" which generates images of grimy kids with snot running down their faces.

Thread is progressing as I would expect. Have we had mention of U and non-U yet?

exWifebeginsat40 · 01/04/2019 16:07

ugh, who even says ‘toilet’? how irredeemably common.

Fazackerley · 01/04/2019 16:08

Yes, absolutely full blown snobbery. Toilet is awful, as is HKLP (holds knife like pen)

It's cultural, I was brought up to think that. Deeply engrained.

Oblomov19 · 01/04/2019 16:08

Toilet roll.

ijustdontunderstandher · 01/04/2019 16:08

I call it loo or toilet roll

ImportantWater · 01/04/2019 16:10

Toilet roll or toilet paper.
While I find all this U and non-U snobbish nonsense to be fascinating, it grates on me ever more deeply with every passing year. "Ooh look at us we are so correct saying what not pardon and shuddering at the use of the word toilet."

havingtochangeusernameagain · 01/04/2019 16:11

What's wrong with loo or toilet?

Are you all French and sensitive to mentions of Waterloo or something?

Or does it conjure up images of Peterloo?

Confused
Saturdaycartoon · 01/04/2019 16:12

Dust! That is where it is coming from!

Every time I sit down on the loo I wipe the top of the toilet/loo/bog roll holder with a piece of it and think' why is that always dusty'

Revelation.

NancyJoan · 01/04/2019 16:13

Hate the word toilet, can’t bear to say it or hear it. Loo all the way here.

Megs4x3 · 01/04/2019 16:14

Funny how no-one has used the word 'lavatory'. My mother had an argument with a friend who castigated her for using the word 'toilet' and asked her why she couldn't just use the 'proper' name for it, the 'lavatory'. Personally I dislike 'bog' and 'bog roll' and 'loo' makes no real sense, but heck, so long as we all know what we are each talking about does it really matter?

HepzibahHumbug · 01/04/2019 16:14

Milktray
Wait, how else would you pronounce toy-lut (if you were to let it cross yr lips?)

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/04/2019 16:14

So in order of posh to not posh, is it loo > toilet > bog? Or if you think toilet is 'common' (do we mean downmarket here or popular?) is bog more or less common than toilet?

Pardon is a funny one, because you probably have some people who've been told to say pardon because their parents/teachers think that 'what' is rude/downmarket and other people who say 'what' because they've been led to believe that pardon is rude/common etc.

BTW, I've been to toilet paper factories for work. They are extremely dusty, it's almost like being in a snowstorm. They also make the rolls in a massive giant toilet roll - taller than a person. They then unroll it into smaller rolls which are then chopped up into individual sized toilet rolls.

Disposable Restroom Comfort Folios.

Anything else is just vulgar Grin

LellowYedbetter · 01/04/2019 16:16

Bog roll, always. I couldn’t bring myself to say loo, urgh it sounds so twee.

If I really have to turn on the charm I say toilet roll
