To think at 25 I shouldn’t be called a young person

User300100 · 29/03/2019 22:17

I’ve been out of university for four years now. I work in a professional career and have a one year old daughter. Today at work I was referred to as a young person by colleague. When I think of young people I think of people who are just getting started in life.

SOrry but at 25 you are just getting started in adult life - enjoy it while you can

rudewordsaretheshit · 29/03/2019 22:18

Lol

KneelJustKneel · 29/03/2019 22:19

Usually its upto 25 with provision for young people.

blametheparents · 29/03/2019 22:19

I’d over 40 and would be so happy to be called a young person! Enjoy it while you can!

ScreamScreamIceCream · 29/03/2019 22:20

When you are in your 40s like me you will understand why people refer to you as young.

Seriously it is small stuff don't sweat it.

PunkRockHippy · 29/03/2019 22:20

Make the most of it :-)

25 is young, savour it

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 29/03/2019 22:20

YABU

25 is definitely young! (she says wistfully)

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 29/03/2019 22:20

I'm 29 in a few months and still regularly referred to as a young person.

bananasinpyjamas18 · 29/03/2019 22:20

I'm 26, have a 4 year old daughter. I would love to be called a young person. Where i work the young people are 16/17/18. I am still pretty young as far as adult life goes.

Flairhead · 29/03/2019 22:21

I'm 32 and people at my work still say I'm young. Not an issue for me, but then I also prefer to be called a girl rather than a woman so maybe I'm weird.

pallisers · 29/03/2019 22:21

I think you are young. Enjoy it. You are young, educated, professional - really you are in a great place and being referred to as young (which you are) is nothing bad. If they dismiss your opinion/input because "you are young' then call them on it.

flowery · 29/03/2019 22:21

You don’t think 25 is young?

Onceuponacheesecake · 29/03/2019 22:22

You are young. I consider a young person 18-25.

icannotremember · 29/03/2019 22:24

I'm 37. If anyone refers to me as young I positively beam. It's just a descriptor of relative age, it's not an insult or a put down. In some contexts I am young. In many more contexts, you are young. Doesn't mean you aren't capable, skilled, educated, confident, admired etc.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 29/03/2019 22:25

Being in your twenties is young though! It isn't the same as being immature, so I wouldn't be annoyed about it.

I guess I would be a young person to some people and I'm in my 40s...

TheCanyon · 29/03/2019 22:25

Fuck sake, im 32 and I'm a young one in my head, please no-one burst my bubble.

SandyY2K · 29/03/2019 22:25

In social care when we say CYP (children and young people), it's up to 25.

It also depends on who is calling you young. A 50+ year old will consider you young for some years to come.

DailyMailSucksWails · 29/03/2019 22:26

OP: I'll have your young person's rail card if you don't want it!

CripsSandwiches · 29/03/2019 22:26

Of course you're a young person! You're barely out of uni! You can't have been in your career more than 3 years (probably minus a year for maternity).

SquigglySquaw · 29/03/2019 22:26

25 is young. Was it just a passing comment or do they treat you differently because you're young?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/03/2019 22:27

32 is young!

Justonemorepancake · 29/03/2019 22:28

You are young. Revel in it. Doesn't matter how much life experience you have, it's not about your maturity - it's a fact that 25 is a young age. (Lucky cow)

GreatAuntBertha · 29/03/2019 22:29

Getting annoyed at such a trivial thing is such a young person's response.

Slat3 · 29/03/2019 22:29

I’m 25 with two kids. I’m young!
