Me and two friends are going away on Saturday to Edinburgh to a show,it's a 3 hour drive from us,the show starts at 8pm.
My friend is taking her car and we are each driving a hour each.
She says il pick you up at 9am,I say can you make it 9.30 am as my sons dad can't pick him up till then.
She says "no I want to beat the traffic"
I said "30 mins is hardly going to make a lot of difference"
She says "well il get there slightly after 9"
There's nothing I can do,I won't be ready till 9.30am
I ask what's the plan when we get there and she says they are going to have a couple of hours napping in hotel.
So rushing and we aren't even exploring.
Aibu here?
I've said 3 times I can't be ready till 9.30 am
I'm not doing it to be awkward.

Bluntness100 Is usually spot on. I quite like her/him

Seeingadistance · 29/03/2019 03:20

Just get the train.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 29/03/2019 03:31

Carlisle?!

AnxietyDream · 29/03/2019 07:05

This is off topic but why does liking sleep make you a snowflake? blush

I was thinking the same thing! I get all the other objections to OPs 'friend' timing (clearly you can't leave till your kid is picked up), but having a nap in the afternoon so you can have a big night out/stay up late etc, sounds perfectly reasonable to me!

And I have friends we share the driving with. Shrugs. It's not 'neccesary', anyone of us could drive the whole way, but it's friendly, makes it feel like a group thing etc.

caitbake · 29/03/2019 07:45

@bonniebanks yes!!! At the playhouse 🤣🤣

@junebirthdaygirl yeah he does,he does it every weekend.
Well he takes him to his mums till 1pm then takes him back.
He probably grabs a couple of hours

Apart from babies and the very elderly I've never heard of an adult needing a nap before going out! Also if your going away from the weekend surely you'd want to out exploring not in bed napping!
Sounds a bit pathetic to me.

PotatoesDieInHotCars · 29/03/2019 10:48

Naps are amazing! All you haters are either oblivious to the joy of a nap or are just jealous 'cause you don't have the luxury of curling up and snoozing for an hour in the afternoon. I'd rather "waste" that hour too if it means being alert for longer at night when the fun is happening.

BumbleBeee69 · 29/03/2019 12:56

Take the Train OP Grin and when you get to Princess Street, juts look up.. the Castle is right there.. lol Flowers

RedPanda2 · 29/03/2019 15:10

Honestly I live naps. I need a disco nap before going out after work, but planning one at lunchtime just to 'beat traffic' when you can't check in anyway seems...odd

JenniferJareau · 29/03/2019 17:49

I occasionally have naps before I go out. By 10pm / 10:30pm I am ready for sleep, so a nap gives me extra energy to stay up later.

Don't do it often, just when I get the chance.

bourbonbiccy · 29/03/2019 19:56

I agree, you wouldn't need enemies if you had friends who talked about you the way you do about your friend but I also agree she seems rather selfish to not understand yay can't leave until your child's father arrives. So neither of you seem to be acting like a good friend!!

If you were to get the train to your show would that then make the evening awkward after the show ?

Morgan12 · 30/03/2019 08:47

So what's the end plan then OP?

Hope you enjoy your day!

HarryTheSteppenwolf · 30/03/2019 08:51

I ask what's the plan when we get there and she says they are going to have a couple of hours napping in hotel

Hotel won't let you in until 2 pm, or even later. So this is not a plan.

And if the train is quicker, why are they driving?

JenniferJareau · 30/03/2019 09:32

Are you going with them today @caitbake?

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 30/03/2019 09:35

just invite her to come in and wait

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 30/03/2019 09:42

I've seen the show already and it's AMAZING! Pure 90's cheese-fest and so much fun! Hope you enjoy!

Chocolateisfab · 30/03/2019 10:34

Are you on the train op?!

Whocansay · 30/03/2019 15:09

Hopefully OP is having a lovely time!

bonniebanks · 30/03/2019 22:34

Well I had a pretty decent time at spice girls (even if my 8 year old wouldn't dance with me😢) hope you had a fab time too op and enjoyed Edinburgh it truly is a beautiful city!

BumbleBeee69 · 31/03/2019 14:30

How did it go OP Flowers

Gingersstuff · 31/03/2019 14:43

I’m a bit gobsmacked that people who live in Newcastle have no idea what side of the country Edinburgh is on Shock
It’s a couple of hours drive straight up the A1 and less than that on the train!

ahtellthee · 31/03/2019 23:15

@Gingersstuff don't tar us all with the same brush! Everyone I know knows where it is (and I know a lot of people!)
